Fair use rationale for Image:Logoui.gif
editThanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Logoui.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Speedy deletion nomination of Toyin Falola
editA tag has been placed on Toyin Falola requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. <>Multi-Xfer<> (talk) 21:38, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
Missing Person
editHi Demmy,
I have been doing thumbnail bios of Nigerian public figures, just pasting together what I can find online, so they are not great but a start. I found a gap. Who was the governor of Niger State from July 1978 to October 1979? I can't find any source. Any idea? Thanks, Aymatth2 (talk) 02:51, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- The governor was G.O. Oni. He was military. Can't find his rank. This site have comprehensive list of Nigerian rulers. Its in Italian but its pretty self-explanatory.demmy (talk) 12:06, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Found him! Colonel (later Brig. General) J.O. Oni. I am sure of the name, not so sure about the start date. The annoying thing is that there must be print sources that give reasonably complete biographical information, and all I can find are a few fragments. Still, maybe this will trigger someone who does have access to sources to correct and improve. Thanks for putting me on the track. Aymatth2 (talk) 14:49, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Navbars
editI noticed you are synchronizing the .en and .yo bios of governors / politicians. I think the .en set of bios on state governors is close to complete in the sense that each past and present governor now has at least some sort of article (although the content could use a whole lot of improvement) and most of the name spelling errors have been fixed. I have recently put in navbars so the user can view all governors in a given period as well as all governors for that state, sort of fitting each bio into a horizontal / vertical grid. See for example the bars at the foot of Anthony Obi. These should be stable now, I hope, apart from the most recent. Maybe you could use them for the .yo version. Aymatth2 (talk) 15:31, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. These are definitely better. Good work by the way!! demmy (talk) 02:47, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Honorary titles
editI need your advice. See User talk:41.138.178.135 - maybe I was being too hard. I see "Chief" used as a prefix quite often in newspaper articles, but not "Oloye", which I think is the Yoruba equivalent. I don't think there is an official standard, but in the English Wikipedia biographies usually start with the name without the title, as in "George Walker Bush (born July 6, 1946) was the 43rd President of the United States". A reader who does not understand the language may have difficulty understanding where the titles end and the name starts in "Peshwa Baji Rao", "Prinz Johann August" or "Oloye Bode George". And the wording "XXX is an aristocrat and politician..." sounds odd to me. I assume that in Nigeria, as in England, anyone with enough influence or money can acquire an aristocratic title. It may be worth mentioning that they did so, but does not seem to belong in the first sentence. What do you think? Aymatth2 (talk) 02:25, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
- Yes "Oloye" is the Yoruba equivalent of the word "chief", but chieftaincy titles are bestowed by non Yoruba traditional rulers in Nigeria as well so that when writing in English "chief" is used for uniformity. I do agree with you that the prefix is unnecessary in Wikipedia articles and on numerous occasions I have removed them. Now if one know the particular chieftaincy title the subject hold I think that could be pointed to in the article under the Honors and Award heading. For example the late Moshood Abiola hold many traditional chieftaincy titles the most important of which is as the Aare Ona Kankafo of Yorubaland bestowed on him by the Alaafin of Oyo and the late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua was the Matawalin Katsina given to him by the Emir of Katsina. When the American rapper Jay-Z visited Ngeria in 2006 he was honored as the Sarkin Waka of Kwara by the Emir of Ilorin. So he too is a Chief. This BBC article gives some perspective regarding chieftaincy titles in Nigeria. demmy (talk) 05:55, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks - that is what I thought. I will keep removing the titles from the lead sentence, maybe moving them to a later section on Honors and Awards. I find lists of honorary awards a bit meaningless - they tend to come with the job - but have no objection to them somewhere near the end of the article. Aymatth2 (talk) 12:33, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Yoruba Wikipedia
editDear Demmy,
I am very interested in your work on the Yoruba Wikipedia. I was reading (in the articles about your Wikipedian of the Year Award) that a large number of these pages were created with the help of bots. Could you explain to me how these bots work? It seems that both the Malagasy and the Yoruba Wikis have increased significantly thanks to the use of bots. I am located in South Africa and was wondering whether this could help our Wikis.
Warm wishes, iilwimi — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iilwimi (talk • contribs) 13:22, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

John Rankine
editHi Demmy,
I'd like to point out that your List of Governors of Western State has the name of John Rankine spelt wrongly. I'm leaving it alone, as I've been told off before for correcting other people's user pages, but I thought I'd let you know. The correct link is John Rankine (governor) (yes, his name has an E on the end — which is rather unusual). David Cannon (talk) 12:13, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for April 26
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Ghezo, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Brazilian. editAppeal for intervention on being blocked on Yoruba Wikipedia (I could not reach out through my talk page)
edit@Demmy, @Deborahjay I have been blocked by @T Cells as a result of sentiments and biases on the YORUBA Wikipedia[1]. I believe this block was unfair and would like to request your intervention. I would have tagged you both on my yo.wiki talk page but T-cell has denied me access to the page.
Kindly review my case. I'm willing to work with you to resolve this issue.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. Taoheedah (talk) 13:58, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
Appeal for talk page Unblock
editHello @Demmy,
I'm writing to appeal for my talk page to be unblocked. I acknowledge that I used an offensive statement such as "Bully" with @T Cells, which was wrong and I apologize for that. I understand that my actions led to the talk page block, and I'm willing to retract my statements and make amends.
Regarding the suggestions made on the articles, I'm willing to work on them and improve my contributions. I realize now that I misunderstood the corrections and will strive to do better.
It was suggested to contact @T Cells via email, but I prefer to resolve this issue openly on Wiki, as transparency and open discussions are essential to our community. I believe that resolving this issue on wiki will help me learn and grow from my mistakes.
Kindly review my appeal. I appreciate your intervention and look forward to your feedback.
Regards Taoheedah (talk) 12:04, 27 April 2024 (UTC)
