I am a licensed Massage Therapist who treats many instances of Plantar Fasciitis. My speciality is a technique I developed called Muscle Release Therapy, MRTh® that specifically works with the posture of the skeletal system and the compensatory pattern of the connective and soft tissue system. I have found most cases of Plantar Fasciitis to be directly related to forward posture where the majority of weight has shifted to the Metatarsal pads. This imbalance creates an eccentric contracture of the Gastrocnemius and Soleus muscle which in turn places the Achilles Tendon in a perpetual stretch position. This pattern will create the compensatory position of the Calcaneus bone to work in a dorsi flexion and will inhibit the fascia proper movement during any form of movement. The structure becomes compromised and develops micro tears at the distal end of the Calcaneus. These tears need to be treated as well as the forward posture. In working with Neuro-Muscular dentists, I have also been able to determine that in most cases of Plantar Fasciitis that it is a descending, skull downward, problem. If anyone else has any comments on treatment or symptoms please let me know.
