Editing problems

There are several problems with your editing, including the following. You have been very uncivil to other editors, in ways which at times have amounted to personal attacks, which is not the way Wikipedia works. Wikipedia works by editors collaborating, and not by individual editors taking a battleground approach to others with whom they disagree. You have put words into the mouths of other editors: for example you have suggested that another editor called you "a liar and a chancer", but examination of the editing history has failed to unearth any occasion on which anyone said that. Your editing has consisted of creating pages which have clearly been designed as promotional material. You have made it clear that your editing has been in an area where you have a conflict of interest.

All of the above are issues which you need to take note of, and you should take care to avoid making any of those mistakes again. However, there is also another issue which is more pressing. You have said that you are not Devlin Crow, in which case using his name as your username is contrary to Wikipedia policy, as it is likely to mislead editors into thinking that you are. You therefore must not continue to edit under this username, except that you may put in a request for the name of the account to be changed. You can read how to do that at Wikipedia:Changing username. If and when the name of the account is changed, you may then continue to edit, bearing in mind the need to avoid continuing to make the mistakes mentioned above. • A couple more points which have been raised by your recent post to my talk page:

1. Someone editing with this account stated that he or she was not Devlin Crow. Now someone using this account has posted a message clearly indicating that he or she is Devlin Crow. This suggests that the account is shared by two or more people, which is contrary to Wikipedia policy, as an account must be for just one person. In fact, Wikipedia's blocking policy states that an account may be blocked from editing if "there is some reason to believe the account is being used by someone other than the person who registered the account". I do not propose at present to block the account, but I do emphasise that the account must be used by only one person, and that it very probably will be blocked if there is evidence that use by more than one person continues now that this policy has been pointed out to you.
2. Many people come to edit Wikipedia thinking that "anyone can edit Wikipedia" means "anyone can use Wikipedia to publish anything they choose to", and are genuinely unprepared for the reality, which is more like "anyone can contribute to Wikipedia if they are willing to do so in ways which fit in with the aims and policies of Wikipedia". Perhaps the commonest way that this misunderstanding manifests itself is people thinking that Wikipedia is an ideal place to post a web page telling the world about themselves, their businesses, their bands, their websites, or anything else of their own which they want to make better known. In fact, that is contrary to several Wikipedia policies and guidelines, including the guideline on conflict of interest, which discourages editing on a subject in which one has a close personal interest, the policy that Wikipedia is not to be used for promotion, and in most cases the guidelines on notability, because almost always people who wish to get publicity by using Wikipedia do not satisfy those guidelines. (People who do satisfy the notability guidelines are likely either to already be the subject of an article written by an uninvolved, independent editor, or to already have enough public exposure not to need to resort to Wikipedia, or both.) You should not be creating a Wikipedia page about yourself, nor getting anyone else to do it on your behalf. If and when you become prominent enough to satisfy Wikipedia's notability guidelines, most probably someone else, unconnected with you, and therefore without a conflict of interest, will create an article about you. You are very welcome indeed to start acting as a volunteer editor, contributing to the encyclopaedia in a neutral way about subjects unrelated to yourself, your work, and people you know, but if your only purpose here is to post a personal web page telling the world about yourself, then I'm afraid that Wikipedia is not the right place to do it. • You might be able to be unblocked but you will need to show that you understand the following:

1. That accounts are only to be used by one person and the username will have to reflect on you individually. Using someone else's name violates username guidelines since it can be seen as promotional and impersonation. You've stated that you aren't Crow, however you've uploaded images and claimed them as your own work - which is why the topic of impersonation was broached in the first place.
2. That Wikipedia is not a place to promote something or someone.
3. It's highly discouraged to edit with a COI. It's not expressly against the rules but you need to be very cautious about doing so because it's so easy to make something promotional or see more notability than there might otherwise be. Also, it's easy to take things more personally - especially if the deletion could affect your job. (IE, we've had COI editors complain that an article deletion weakened their business and required that they refund payments to their customers.)
4. Incivility towards other editors is completely unacceptable. Comments like the one you made here are not tolerated at all as they are seen as WP:ADHOMINEM, personal attacks.
5. All photographs need to be uploaded with the correct permissions. Since there has been concern over the copyright for these pictures, your best bet will be to go through OTRS. Just keep in mind one thing: uploading an image to Wikimedia Commons means that you are giving the item up as fair use. This means that anyone can use the image in ways that do not violate WP:CC BY-SA. Many artists choose not to do this because it could be detrimental to their work or to things they use to promote themselves - and because sometimes copyrights can be complicated when it comes to some marketing material. I'd heavily recommend talking this over with OTRS before uploading anything else.
