User talk:Dfletter/Taxonomy/Google taxonomies for computers

I am just making some comments that I hope will be helpful to Wikipedia, Google, and technology discussions.

Alternate Science and Technology Taxonomy (there can be many ways to express the below dichotomies)

Theoretical Science (Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Cognitive Arts …) [Point: Anomaly has unknown cause/s.] Applied Science is (Lab, Research, Design, Development, Pragmatic Arts …) [Point: Problems are solvable never anomalous.] Medicine Engineering Environment Applied Technology (Products, Production, Distribution, Model/Style, Repetitive Application …) [Point: Failure symptoms are documented] Information (Services Interoperability, Data, Content, Metadata …) [Point: Information Services are not Infrastructure.] Telecommunication (Infrastructure Integration, Devices, Protocols …) [Point: Hardware and related Applications are Infrastructure.] Transportation (Infrastructure Integration, Packaging, Distribution, Port/Warehouse/Hub/Exchange Facility …) Economic (Services Interoperability, Monetary, Financing, Audit, Fulfillment, Logistics …) Organization (Enterprise [.Gov/.Com/.Mil…] Convergence, Governance, Sustainment Matrix, Management, Regulate, Compartment …) Procedural (Services Interoperability, Explicit Processes, Command & Control Operations, Workflow Automation, Transference …)

JustIMO: Information has subcomponents like Data (machine process use [GPS, manufacturing …]), Content (human use purpose [books, movies …]), Metadata (provide processing [assimilation, discovery, collaboration …]), Algorithms (cultivation tools [aggregation, analysis …]) …

Telecommunications has subcomponents like Devices (networking, connection, computers …) that use hardware and associated operational software applications.

IOW: Information is wetware dependent, software or hardware can enhance purpose, but Hw/Sw is not required. Telecommunications is hardware dependent and typically functionality dependent on firmware/software to perform any intended purpose. Information architecture is vastly different from telecommunications, and "information technology" (IMO) presently is a misnomer.

Question - I was asked; what is the difference between: W3 and Internet, ISP and IAP, Integration and Interoperability …? I always said to colleagues different words mean different things, but marketers (say anything) and professors (talking off-topic) confuse the heck out of US.

Answer - W3 is ideally interoperable information services provided by an ISP (Google, Yahoo, Amazon …). Internet is ideally integrated communications infrastructure, to which an IAP (AT&T, Verizon, ComCast …) provides access. IMO: Brand marketers have bamboozled and corporate/academic professors made comments that continue to confuse the hell out of politicians and most of US.

Words are not meant to be all encompassing or exclusive, but applicable limits should be set for cohesive and collaborative productive discussions.
