Edit summaries

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead.

Using detailed edit summaries is the best way to ensure that your good faith edits are not reverted by recent changes patrollers or other wikieditors. Thanks and happy editing! — SpikeToronto 21:51, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi Dgjesquire. Just a short note to let you know that you don't have to sign edit summaries with four tildes (~~~~), as they don't work the same way as when a talk page discusssion is signed with ~~~~. Best. Ward20 (talk) 21:15, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Mercedes-Benz SL-Class

Hi DGJ. I reverted this edit because “al fresco” is gilding the lilly (see Wikipedia:Manual of Style (words to watch) (shortcut → WP:WORDS)) and is clearly understood by the use of the word roadster. Earth Stove

Trevj: Greetings yourself. On the article, it would be my first submittal, so I was frankly shy about posting it. It is basically ready but I don't have the time to take it to the next step, if that's warranted.

My two uncles [both living] are the founders of the company so I have information just, well, from the 'family archives', if you will.

If you have some interest in helping take it thru the next steps, I'd be interested in hearing how you would, and assist it to the space; to make it not appear as 'commercial'. It is not intended that in any way.

Indeed, the brand has been absorbed into one of the industry giants and they [uncles] have been out of managing it for decades, now.

My intent only is to get their contribution into the 'world repository'. They are not interested in the 'net, so this [my effort] seemed the sole route toward that. Nor would they be vain enough to make the endeavor.

If you can help, I'd gladly welcome your expertise.

Thanks for the useful info. We're mostly all here to build the encyclopedia and (without doing any further research) your justification sounds fine in principle. The "Your first article" link (above in the welcome message) should provide some useful info. Two of the main issues will be notability and your conflict of interest (which is fine if stated) - minor style issues could be addressed once the article is in the main encyclopedia namespace.
