Page moves
editHello, I see that you have moved two pages using copy-and-paste. Pages shouldn't be moved like that, see Help:Moving a page. In addition, these moves from Ukrainian to Russian spelling are not trivial and should be discussed at Wikipedia:Requested moves first. Conscious 13:44, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hello, official site of club, in which these footballers are playing now, says, that their names are Alexander Gorshkov and Alexander Spivak respectively. Last euroseason FC Zenit Saint Petersburg played in Europe and these footballers were indicated in application of FC Zenit in UEFA Cup as Alexander Gorshkov and Alexander Spivak. Why are papers about these footballers named different from official names of these footballers in UEFA documents? UEFA documents and official site of football club are not competent? - What about this? Conscious 14:34, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Gm! I acknowledge myself deluded about O and A (I'm sorry - it is my mistake), but what can you say about Gorshkov and Horshkov? Shouldn't we rename Olexandr Horshkov to Olexandr Gorshkov? Dinamik 15:35, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- I suggest you start a formal discussion (see WP:RM#Requesting potentially controversial moves for instructions). There have been some attempts to change spelling one way or another, but never a discussion. I also wonder what Ukrainian editors might think of the move. Conscious 12:18, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Diplomatic missions in SPB
editHi, I am working on diplomatic missions in Russia, and am trying to enlist the help of Wikipedians in the different Russian cities to provide photos which we can use on this article. As you are Saint Petersburg, I was wondering if you may be in the position to be able to take some photos of the various consulates in Saint Petersburg, so that we can use them on that article. Feel free to reply here, or on my talk page, if you need any more info. Cheers --Россавиа Диалог 18:54, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- I am glad to help another wikipedians. I don't promise to make photos, that you will ask me to do, immediately or even fast, but I will try to do it as quickly as I will be able to do. Please, give me precise adresses of necessary buildings. Dinamik (talk) 20:00, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply, and offer of assistance. No rush at all. As I have sent several editors in SPB my request, I have provided a list at User:Russavia/SPB photo requests so that anyone who is able to help doesn't need to use their precious time to take photographs of a consulate which has already been provided. Any other questions, please ask. Cheers --Россавиа Диалог 22:27, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Your input requested
editHi. A proposal on the re-creation of WP:RUSSIA is currently underway at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Russia/Proposal. One of the main points is that we should have workgroups covering different topics. We are trying to ascertain the interest of editors in various workgroups under WP:RUSSIA, such as history, politics, biographical, etc; as your userpage indicates you are Russian or live in Russia, perhaps you can take a read of the proposal, comment on it wherever you have thoughts, and perhaps provide details of any Russian topics you may be interested and are willing to collaborate with other editors on? Your input is valued. Cheers. --Russavia Dialogue Stalk me 20:20, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Ochamchire district
editHi! Are you sure separate articles are needed for the districts of Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia? Imho it has rather limited potential - the information that is relevant to both entities should added to that article and it makes no sense to double it. Stuff like map and area of the Georgian version of the district may be also added to that article (or has already been added, in case of area). Best reagrds, Alæxis¿question? 06:29, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Naming is a separate problem - if Wikipedia uses certain name for a town then it should be used everywhere unless there's a special agreement (like in Gdansk case). Using nonstandard versions (like OchamchirE or Gal) to distinguish between de jure and de facto districts is not self-evident and should be proposed at the talk at first. Alæxis¿question? 07:27, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- Ochamchira district of Republic of Abkhazia and Ochamchire district of Autonomous Repulibc of Abkhazia are different objects. The names are similar, but objects aren't equivalent. Different names, different authorities, different borders. How should we call such articles? Ochamchira district (Abkhazia) and Ochamchira district (Georgia)? Gali district (Abkhazia) and Gali district (Georgia)? Dinamik (talk) 14:56, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, surely they are different but that doesn't automatically mean that they should be described in 2 articles. Again, what de-jure-district-specific information are you going to put in the new article? And why can't it be put in the old article?
- Regarding the name I think that names that have been accepted in WP (Ochamchira, Gali) should be used also when they are used as parts of subdivisions' names. For example we use SUkhumI and Kiev in all circumstances, be it Kiev oblast, Kiev Guberniya or Chicken Kiev. Alæxis¿question? 20:06, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- Main aim of such articles - to give an information about objects, which reader is interested in. If reader wants to get information about administrative unit of Abkhazia (for example, he heard about it somewhere and now he wants to know, what it is), he reads one article, if he wants to know about administrative unit of Georgia (for example, he heard about in in georgian news or read in georgian literature), he reads another article. I think, that the single real reason, by which they wants to have one article about two different objects, is that this objects have similar names (in English! in some another languages they have different names!). This fact confusing them. If districts have different names, I think, that they don't think about one article about different objects. Different articles about different objects are convenient for categorising, infoboxes and so on. It it is incorrect to give information about one object in the article about another object. Such actions are deceitful.
- Thank you for information about names of articles. But what should we do with articles about districts, that have names similar to another districts? What rule should we use? Dinamik (talk) 22:11, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- Let's first settle the issue with how many articles we need. Please answer, what de-jure-district-specific information are you going to put in the new article? Alæxis¿question? 06:52, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
- We can put: map, officials (as I know, officials of some of such districts are sitting somewhere in Georgia), boundaries, history (when district was founded in his modern articles), data about population, information about official georgian status of district. It is convenient, when article "administrative division of Georgia" or analagous links to georgian district and "administrative division of Abkhazia" links to abkhazian district. A question: if abkhazian officials cut, for example, Gudauta district into 2 administrative units: Likhni district and New Athos district, how many articles will you propose to make? I think, that 3: Gudauta district of Georgia, Likni and New Athos district of Abkhazia. With districts, having analagous names, situation is analagous: we have 2 georgian districts, located at the territory of 3 abkhazian districts. We need articles about all theese units. Second League redirects
editHello. I see that you recently moved Second League to Second League of Estonia in order to create a new disambiguation page. Can you please take a look at all the pages that are redirects to Second League; it looks like many of these may need to be retargeted to the page about the Estonian league, but I'm not certain about all of them. In future, it would be helpful if you follow the advice on WP:FIXDABLINKS when creating new disambig pages over existing titles. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 15:13, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia Stories Project
editHi!
My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.
I'm scouring user pages looking for inspiring, motivating and interesting stories of how Wikipedia has affected the lives of people. I'm asking questions like "How has Wikipedia changed your life?", "What's the most interesting story you have about Wikipedia?" and "Has Wikipedia ever surprised you?"
Last year, we used the annual fundraiser as a way to show the world who it is who actually writes Wikipedia. We featured editors from Brazil, Ukraine, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, India, United States and England. This campaign was a huge success, resulting in the most financially successful fundraising campaign ever. It was also a campaign that stayed true to the spirit of Wikipedia, educating the public that this free top-5 website is created by volunteers like you and I.
This year we want to highlight more Russian-language Wikipedia editors, so I am in the process of planning a trip to Russia to interview editors.
If you or someone you know (or have heard about) has been positively affected by Wikipedia, or have something interesting to say about Wikipedia I'd very much like to hear about it!
Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project, or if you know someone else with whom I should speak.
Of course, if you have any questions or concerns, please ask! I will answer as soon as I can. I apologize for any poor translation of this letter, I am using Google-translate. I hope it makes you laugh :)
Thank you for your time,
Victor Grigas

Menshikov Palace
editI saw that you just disambiguated Menshikov Palace; however, the palace in St. Petersburg is clearly the primary topic. Ryan Vesey 00:15, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- If it is evidently for english-speaking readers, should you rename Menshikov Palace with disambiguation to Menshikov Palace (disambiguation) and set redirect from Menshikov Palace to Menshikov Palace (Saint Petersburg)? But, I can say, palace in Saint Petersburg even is not the biggest of existing palaces of Menshikov:). Dinamik (talk) 00:20, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- The palace in Saint Petersburg should exist at Menshikov Palace and the disambiguation should be at Menshikov Palace (disambiguation). We'll need an admin to do the proper moving. Ryan Vesey 00:23, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
