This is how it's popularly known, they publish one comic rather than plural comics, and this article is about Viz (the comic) rather than Viz (the publishing team behind it). Bubblegum Crisis

Generally encyclopedic categories are for articles and categories, not templates. Templates are not about the subject but a tool for article to article navigation. When you consider that templates and categories overlap to a certain degree, including the template in an encyclopedic category is kind of repeating the contents. To put it another way, these are both navigation assistance tools that are included in different places. This is why there is a whole series of categories for navigation box templates. Ah, but of course! I always check chapter titles while reading the volumes; it's really the only way to fly. ^_^ And yes, the story is quite good IMHO. Unfortunately, it's looking for now like I'll only be able to get as far as volume 12, and I also need to have a look at the uploaded chapters on ShonenSunday.com to see if they're changing anything between the volumes and the online chapters. I'm keeping current with the scanlations, having read the first, um, I think only 10 volumes were out from Viz at the time, from the library. Where by "current" I mean, "wait for about a volume's worth to come out, then binge." I've added it to my list of series to collect used (now that Furuba is complete), but so far I've only found volumes you've already updated. My local library usually has only the more popular (which means mostly shounen) series, and all-to-often only the first three and the last half-dozen volumes. I use them to check out a series, to see whether I want to continue. But it's where I first found Fruits Basket, and I currently have The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya checked out (which reminds me, it's probably due RSN). Not much there has caught my attention lately, tho'.

Since my continued employment depends on copyright law, I'm pretty strict about being honorable about scanlations: if it's licensed in English, I don't touch the scans unless I'm committed to also reading a legit copy, either bought or loaned. Even unto deleting my local copy when something does get licensed. OTOH, I have no qualms reading current scans of a series while getting the English volumes as they come out. All the better to talk up some buzz for the good stuff.

Are you able to request stuff from other libraries? I'm fortunate enough that my local library (Carnegie-Shuyler Library, Pana, IL) is part of the Rolling Prarie Library System, of which about 60 other libraries in central Illinois are also members, so I can request stuff from pretty much all over the state (and the librarians here are willing to look "outside the system" for individual volumes if I hit a gap in a series I'm reading). Needless to say, I still haven't found the end of the manga I can request. ^_^

For a variety of reasons, I usually don't touch scanslations (or fansubs) myself, but when I do, I also try to steer clear of anything that's been licensed, and when I do read/watch a licensed property, I fully intend to purchase the licensed release when I get the money.

Hmm... I actually have poked around for some of his stuff, but I didn't find anything (I know at least one or two of his series have been licensed). Really, though, I haven't come across many manga series I can't stand (Liling Po is the only one that really sticks out; fortunately for me volume 1 is the only one in the system, since I force myself to read all consecutive volumes of a series once I start it ;P ).

As for With the Light, I had actually started on it after it was mentioned in a project discussion, and got as far as volume 3 before all 4 volumes vanished from the system, without a trace! I just spent about 10 minutes looking in every way I could think of, but couldn't turn up hide or hair of them! It was so frustrating! Our library is a little weird about its inter-library loans. Within the system, which covers our county, it's a shared collection, but you have to go through hoops for outside it, with apparently random due-dates and heavy fines. I haven't tried using it for manga yet.

The only Adachi licensed in English is two volumes of early short stories, Short Program. I'm up to v2 of With the Light, but our system doesn't have v3 (though it does have v4). Obviously, you don't actually pay close attention to IP addresses. The only reason IPs are predominantly thought of as vandals is because non-vandalism IP edits are usually just quietly accepted without much fanfare, while vandalism edits tend to get made a big deal out of ("reverted x edits by 999.999.999.999 identified as LYK ZOMG ITS VANLASIM!!!!!!1!! to last version by YourNameHere"). However, there is one address I can immediately think of, User:74.137.108.115, who is well-respected at the help desk, is frequently asked to create a user account (which he has always refused to do), and has been told more than once that if IP addresses could be made administrators, various users would support him in a bid for it. In a case closer to home, if you will, the IP address User:78.105.51.236 recovered their account (User:Akata) after I asked them for some help after they made an edit to List of Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle chapters, and they are now becoming increasingly active in the project.

While it is true that a significant number of vandalism edits are made by IPs (for some reason, 97% sticks in my head), a surprisingly low percentage of IP edits are actually vandalism - 25% would be a fairly high estimate, AFAIK. 「ダイノガイ千？！」^{? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000} 19:09, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

They did for a while, but several months ago the templates were changed to allow other date formats as well. That's because there is no real order - I simply listed characters as I found their articles (I started with the character lists and then compared against the category, as I recall). Template:Japanese episode list and List of Dragon Ball episodes

More template fun! I've started the split of List of Dragon Ball Z episodes into seasons lists. However, I can not figure out a trick for hiding the summaries on both List of Dragon Ball Z episodes and List of Dragon Ball episodes. Right now, its only working on the former after I did a template change. Thoughts? Ideas? Should we just killed List of Dragon Ball episodes and move List of Dragon Ball episodes (series) back there and give up on having a single all encompassing list? -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 20:17, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Personally, I'd give up on an all-encompassing list - the DB and DBZ anime were always treated as separate series, so I really don't see the justification for trying to list everything on a single page. Other than that, the only thing to do is either hack in a second parameter for page name, or use markup in the lists to match more than one pagename (e.g. {{#ifeq:{{PAGENAME}}|List of Dragon Ball Z episodes|{{PAGENAME}}|{{#ifeq:{{PAGENAME}}|List of Dragon Ball episodes|{{PAGENAME}}}}}}, or the much more succinct {{PAGENAME}}; either one is going to trigger the checks at WP:CHECKWIKI though). 「ダイノガイ千？！」^{? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000} 21:03, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up - Collectonian's customized version of Lightmouse's date script suffers from the same problem. It should be trivial to set up a heuristic that checks if dates are inside URLs, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to do so. =( And as an aside, is my monobook.js on your watchlist? The new templates are great...until I need to add a new entry. Then I have to manually renumber every last one to put them in order :( Anyway around that? Unfortunately, the simplest way around that is reversing the order of the icons so that the ones farther to the right are older. For next round of improvement of the manga article (After GA), we should be write a criticism section of manga inside & outside Japan + a cultural superpower section manga with anime the Japan "soft power". Hollywood movies = Anime + Manga as global cultural product. From memories the 2nd most translated language in France after English is Japanese. The opposition between Osaka & Tokyo can be handled in History of manga.

Unfortunately, we never really did much with soundtrack/album/etc. articles/lists before you and Quasi did all the work on List of Aria (manga) soundtracks, so by and large, these articles are in a worse state than pretty much any other type of articles in our scope. Another naming form for Gin Tama

The series' kanji is 銀魂 but Shueisha also writes it as ぎんたま on their site. Since it is official I tried adding it to the article as "also written as..." but it doesn't appear within the nihongo template. I thought it was hiragana, but I'm not sure. Thats an easy one, WSJ's readers aren't going to be expected to know the kanji, In print they would use furigana to give the kana form. That's hard to render on screen, so they use kana.I think "also written as" would be fine. At least, that's my conclusion. nihonjoe could offer a agreement or correction I'm sure. Image re-upload broken :(

After discussion with TheFarix, i tried to upload a shinier version of the xxxHolic cover. However upon uploading the new file version, i receive an error message indicating that the file already exist in Wikipedia Commons. A message likes that:

A file with this name exists at the Wikimedia Commons. You can:

• upload it to Commons, if your intent is to replace the image that already exists with a better version.

I made a search for that file in wiki commons and found nothing.

Heh, there's no need to stress the fact that I'm an admin, I'm quite aware of it already. =) I was able to upload the new version of the file myself (you still need to update the source though, unless it's a self-made scan, in which case you should probably specify that), and your description definitely sounds like some sort of bug caused by the recent MediaWiki upgrades that has apparently been fixed since then. Block template

Thanks for fixing that up, I didn't realize that it was creating any problems having that there with the auto-category stuff. I guess it was intended for people still with active blocks on. No problem, but it's really pretty simple - just substitute the template (you have to save it before you can do anything else), then if you're not familiar with HTML and advanced wikimarkup, start cutting one piece at a time and preview to make sure you're not messing it up (if you are familiar with HTML/advanced wikimarkup, you can just start carving and maybe do a preview or two to make sure you didn't clip an extra character or something :evilgrin: ). Other than that, I'm really not sure how many ex-blockees would want to advertise that fact like that, but I could plop the code into a new template if you'd like. xxxHOLiC Rō

Back from a wikibreak, and I noticed you've reverted edits about the new name of xxxHOLiC, xxxHOLiC - Seclusion (xxxHOLiC・籠). I'm not sure what would be the best thing to do but as of last week, it seems xxxHOLiC's name was changed, and the story underwent a timeskip after the events of the last few chapters. The numbering still continues onward however, so it doesn't seem to be a complete sequel, and there doesn't seem to be enough of the latest volume for it to spark its own new volume(s) starting last week. It looks like it could either be a sequel, a second part of maybe an epilogue, but Young Magazine's site considers it a new title, different to xxxHOLiC. Akata (talk) 22:41, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

Change 123 (Manga)

Would it be possible to add pictures to this article: Change 123? I was wondering whether it would be possible to add a picture along with the main characters to give readers a better understanding of who the characters are. Hmm... well, the problem is that the article doesn't show how the series has any notability - all it is is a plot summary and character descriptions consisting of even more plot summary. Establishing its notability is one of the first things that need to be done, but that could be difficult given it only appears to be licensed in France, Spain, and Argentina; it doesn't seem to have an ANN entry; and some brief Google searches didn't turn up any coverage from reliable sources. You can ask User:KrebMarkt if he can dig up any French reviews or coverage, but it really doesn't look too promising at this point (on the other hand, though, it appears to be ongoing, so there's always the possibility of future coverage or an English license). As far as how welcome your edits are, though, you did kind of start off on the wrong foot here, but you shouldn't have any problems if you stick to more minor stuff for now like spelling fixes until you are more familiar with wikimarkup and the various guidelines. Well, I would again stress that one of the first things you need to do is try to establish notability for the series - as I said above, I couldn't find anything in English after a brief look, but there may be some in French or Spanish. If you insist on working on the article regardless of that, though, a general outline for article structure can be found at WP:MOS-AM - the basic gist is that the characters section needs to be trimmed way back, and the article needs a media section (is the manga the only component to the series, or was it adapted into any anime series or OVAs or anything?). Yes, so far Change 123 only consists of a manga series and has not been adapted into any form of "Media". The characters section covers each of the characters roles since beginning to chapter 10. So it's a character summary for each character. Basically the main portion of this article consists of characters so it's understandable to see why these character summarys have been added. I've added a reference I think establishes notability. Is it viable?

Unfortunately, while Akita Shoten's website is a reliable source, it cannot be used to establish notability since it is the publisher's website, which makes it a primary source. Yes, it is the French publisher's website, which makes it reliable for proving that the series was licensed and released in France. It still won't demonstrate any notability, though. =( Also, I was merely using Bleach as an example in my above explanation, with a brief explanation as to why it didn't actually have a character list on the main article. Well, as I said above, the characters stuff all needs trimmed waaay back. Also, all those reviews KrebMarkt added links to need to be translated and summarized into a "Reception" section, and if you're lucky, there'll be enough comments on characters to be able to do a decent character list. At some point, since the series is ten volumes long and ongoing, splitting the volume list will also be justified, and it's gonna need the original Japanese chapter names and a summary of each volume. Re: RFA reply

That's unexpected, since I know one of the first questions asked in any RFA is "What administrative work do you intend to take part in?". Your answer seems more like "if you give me the tools, I'll be there for you, but not until you ask", which IMO doesn't really go with what I believe an admin should be there for. I'm curious; if you wanted to become an admin, but were uninterested in doing any real administrative work, then why ask for the tools? Not to mention that you admit to having little time to check the administrative boards anyway. I would like to say, though, that I do see you around WP:ANIME a lot, taking part in discussions and whatnot, and usually I myself don't unless I'm very interested in what is being discussed, or has some connection to my work here. I am also of the opinion that WP:ANIME (which consists of the majority of my edits) has quite a few admins already, and what with me not really being involved in other aspects of Wikipedia including BLP or much of the red tape and bureaucracy, I honestly don't see how I could contribute anything more than is already available. Yes, I could use the tools in certain situations to make my life a little easier, but it's not really all that often that it's a problem not to have them, I guess I would say.

As for the rest of your question, Juhachi, I actually didn't ask for the tools myself - User:Mbisanz approached me first (by email, if I recall) asking if I'd be willing to run if he nommed me. Truth be told, I actually considered declining his offer, but curiosity got the better of me - I'd been wondering for a while how I'd do at RFA, and what kind of advice I might get from it, so I went ahead and accepted. I was actually rather surprised at the basically unilateral support I got from everyone who commented. And yeah, I do watch WP:ANIME rather closely, and like you, I usually only comment where it affects my work or interests me; I guess it's just that my interests are more in line with what is usually being discussed or something...? And admins in WP:ANIME... yeah... let's see, there's me, G.A.S, Sephiroth BCR, and Nihonjoe (the ones I can remember off the top of my head, and there's bound to be a good half-dozen who have the userbox or category on their userpage, but who don't watch WT:ANIME in any capacity) - of us, Sephiroth has been MIA since around May and Nihonjoe, I think, spends most of his time at WP:JAPAN. Seriously, with such criteria the second part of the material in pop cultural references could be considered "original research" too.

On the side note - I can provide a screen for my edition, but it's legally ambigous and similiarity between both tree projects is clear reference.

Using your argumentation - we cannot write that scene in Capu2 is clear reference to few famous horror movies ("Scream", "Friday the third", "Nightmare from Elms Street"), even if characterisation is obvious. But, because no one wrote an article about cultural references in "R+V"(and let's be frank about this - no one ever will) there is no way to expand these section.

Technically speaking, any statement in an article that is unsourced is original research. From a policy standpoint, however, facts that are very obvious do not need a source (for instance "the sky is blue" and, in the context of Rosario + Vampire, "Tsukune Aono is the protagonist" are both blatantly obvious, and do not need sources). What you are doing, though, is comparing two primary sources to arrive at a conclusion - this is not just original research, but also personal synthesis (stating what manga chapters each episode is adapted from is also this type of synthesis). No matter how obvious it is to you, regardless of the likelihood that your specific observation may never come up in reliable third-party commentary on the series, and regardless of other places where such information is present, this type of information is wholly inappropriate for Wikipedia and I will continue to remove it as necessary. 「ダイノガイ千？！」^{? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000} 21:18, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

I didn't actually look at the Tsubasa reference TBH; I'm busy with some other things at the moment. But if the author himself makes the comparison between Rosario and Tsubasa, then it's a valid comparison and has a place in the article (I think in a Production section, but not sure, and still needs a cite regardless). As for the "color of the sky" bit, I was merely using that as an illustration as it is used as an example in several places where sourcing is discussed. By author you mean author of the manga? Anime? Or someone who - thanks to personal synthesis - found this reference and put it into wiki? Because there is no source proving that it was deliberate reference to "Tsubasa". It's not obvious, it's not documented(nor will be, mind my words), yet it's valid. So - think again about the way you use wiki criterias, because you reasoning is full of holes. At this point I dont care anymore, but still - maybe you should think this thoroughly one more time? I mean the author of the manga. But, now that I look, the only mention of Tsubasa I can see is in the Pop Culture References section, which states that the beginning of episode 5 is a parody of Captain Tsubasa. The way it reads currently, it is definitely synthesis, but if it's true, there's bound to be a reference (probably in Japanese) confirming it. And there is one litle problem - with such criterias in less popular titles there will be no cultural references stated. We are talking here about manga and anime, ecchi/commedy at that... There will be no documented sources about pop cultural references and it's highly unlikely that author himself will say anything about it. If you ask about merits - it's valid, because it's cultural reference. It's tribute, "easter egg", homage or simple parody - for listing such elements is that section. Without little synthesis of the wiki authors this section will be removed - because there will be no essays or critical approaches about cultural impact of "R+V", not until ecchi manga will be considered "mainstream" and important part of culture ( I don't want to use such a cruel word as "never", but... ). I advise more constructive approach for such sections, for less popular titles at least. It's tradeoff and I'm well aware of that. When you're citing source, you're referencing to personal synthesis of some other person. Which is fine when you reference to some well acknowledged research. The "problem" with art (whether high or popular) lies in interpretation. In country where I live, which become semi-democratic ten years ago there are many examples of acknowledged literature professors that write completelly different analises of a book in relatively short time span. The book remained the same - I mind you, it's the political system that changed. So - yeah, it's obviously spoof from Captain Tsubasa, and we may consider it not important enought to be part of an article. The article will have better grade, but IMHO will be poorer. The thing about content on Wikipeida is, if it has not been published elsewhere by a reliable source, then it can't be published here. We cannot add our own views, opinions, analysts, interpretations, or observations into an article. This is a combination of WP:NOT#OR and WP:NOR. The Captain Tsubasa reference can be challenge and probably should be removed unless someone adds a reference. Penguin Musume Heart ep title parodies

You wrote "source(s) plx?" regarding the last revision I made to the List of Penguin Musume Heart episodes, where I added parodies for a couple of titles, yet I see no evidence of sources cited for any other parodies. My only source is simple comparison.

For episode 18, I'm fully ready to doubt that the title was meant to parody Karei-naru Ichizoku, mostly because I'd never heard of it before and it's not an anime or manga; on the other hand, Back to the Future (ep 15) is about the farthest thing from Japanimation I can imagine so I'm not gonna limit myself to anime/manga so easily, and ep 8 also claims to parody a novel (it's a brief note in the article, but Karei-naru Ichizoku was originally a novel). Not to mention, the striking similarity is there. My money's on the title being a parody of the novel. I'd rather put it in and someone come along to say it's wrong or there's something better than leave it out and no one ever considers the possibility.

For episode 22, I have to ask if you even looked at the original, Japanese title for Socrates in Love. It matches the ep 22 title perfectly except for "sakende"/"sakebu" and "dasshutsu". I can tell you, this title doesn't really have anything to do with the episode's contents either, so, esp. for its length, I find it incredibly difficult to imagine that the titles' similarities are just a coincidence; as far as I'm concerned, it must be a parody.

What do you think about this?

A few hours ago I was debating the likelyhood of any Love Hina chracters other then the two we have achieving notability. Mutsumi possibly, but it depends on the coverage. However Kaolla Su just showed up in the template and linked the character list. I have no doubt that Su will never demonstrate independant notability, what's your opinion? I'm probably not the best person to ask on notability issues, especially for character articles. However, there's nothing in her article right now to suggest notability, and if you say she's not notable, I have no reason to doubt you (especially with all the work you've put into the Love Hina articles =) ). Well, I can't do anything on the main article until it's copy edited... I'm hoping it's ready, I keep finding new issues whenever I think it's done. Naru's page complete rewrite I started sandboxing in feb, I think i've only gone back to it twice since, and for minor things. I'm not touching it until I finish rereading the manga to make life easier (which i'm doing slowly and I'm up to vol10). Not that it's worth moving to mainspace until i do the anime section - which requires rewatching the show first.
