Hey, I know that edit war thing was frustrating. But I'm really glad to see that you moved it to the talk page to hammer things out. I also want you to know that I felt that you were right about the whole archive thing but an edit war is an edit war. Hope there are no hard feelings. Looking forward to seeing more of your contributions here.

Substituting warning template

edit

Hi Dipper Dalmatian. Thanks for your work reverting vandalism and warning the vandals. When you use template messages to warn vandals, make sure that you substitute the templates. For example, instead of using {{uw-vandalism1}} ~~~~ as you have done a few times, use {{subst:uw-vandalism1}} ~~~~ (the only difference is the subst: part). This ensures that the template message remains the same with time; if we don't substitute the template, then if someone changes the template later on down the road, then the content of your message will also change. I recommend also looking into Twinkle, which is a tool that you can use to send templated warnings more easily. Thanks, Mz7 (talk) 05:40, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Warning vandals

edit

You should generally reserve the "only warning" templates for vandals who are being especially disruptive. You don't have to go through all four warning templates, though. You can start at level 2, escalate to level 3, and report. It's not critical that every vandal get multiple warnings, and some can be blocked without any warnings. But petty vandals probably should get more than one. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 14:41, 30 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
