Street Army Gospel

A) This band is relevant. They have had multiple CD released - moreso than a lot of the 80s punk bands that are listed on Wikipedia - and are well known within the NYC punk community.

B) What gives you the right to censor other people's work?

C) Put the page and all subsequent pages back up now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JerryTheSkids (talkcontribs) 20:41, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

The article did not indicate the significance or importance of the subject. All it basically said was that there's a band and it has recorded some albums. The article was tagged and you were notified of this and had the opportunity to improve it. ... discospinster talk 21:37, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Brandon TNT West is the producer of the song Ready Set Go along with Darnell Saadiq Bolden. Not sure why it's not showing up online but if you look on the credits of the album, the real album credits (like iTunes) his production information is there. Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)

Hi Discospinster,

Concerning your revert of my edit to "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)", have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hot_100_number-one_singles_of_1991_(U.S.). As you can see, Gonna Make You Sweat, hit number one in 1991 and not in 1990. So the succession chart link should link to number-one singles of 1991, not 1990. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lucifer1998 (talkcontribs) 22:04, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

Feminist??? And good job reverting vandalism

Why are you a feminist? You know in countries like Canada, and the United States, women are often treated better than men, even in court cases relating to divorce. But I do understand the reason for third world countries. I think people should not call themselves feminists, instead call themselves HUMAN there should be NO differences because of gender or race, being anti-female is wrong and being a Feminist adds a touch of bias, instead put a userbox that shows you support equality, as being a feminist means you support women over men. (Which offended me a tad bit).

why would you delete my post that such a disgraces to me and my opinion isn't there freedom of speech and freedom of the press on the ten amendments you should look it up yourself because the deletion of that post did affect me and not only me but my opinion is suppose to be free to anyone out there. sincerely,a mad person with lost RIGHTS!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.199.35.251 (talk) 01:55, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

John Liu

I removed the foreign fundraising section with quite an explicit explanation: that section has no followup beyond the 2009 launch of investigation. Furthermore, most of the section is about Asian-American fundraising, not foreign.

Here is the bulk of the section. Nothing in here is about "foreign fundraising," only Asian-American fundraising: "Pan is the president of a company called "Golden Arrow Property" (金箭房地產有限責公司).[28] Oliver Pan's office is in 35 East Broadway, New York room 506 handles finance, banking, insurance and real estate.[27] He also has an office in Mendham, New Jersey.[30] Some people in the Chinese community believe Liu is being framed.[27] Pan's funding activities extended beyond Liu, as he was listed as a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton during the 2008 presidential campaign.[30] Ru Mei-hua (盧美華 Lú Měihuá), director of planning for John Liu, helped him rise from a councilman 10 years ago to a major political force mainly connecting Liu to a network of Asian American businessmen in NY.[31] She has been considered a key to understanding the fund raising details from donors, but denied requests to be interviewed.[31]"

Furthermore, the one citation of foreign fundraising came from one sentence in a 2009 NYT article about an investigation. There's no follow-up if you search Google News since then.

Hence, I think leaving the section in is irresponsible (and possibly racist - just because Liu looks "foreign" does not mean he's getting foreign money).

EDIT: I realize confusion now - my edit was reverted without explanation, and I reverted back. The second reversion was without explanation.

Yes, that is the one that I was referring to. ... discospinster talk 23:12, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Deletion

Hi Discospinster, I appreciate all of the info about the deletion. I do find Wikipedia more challenging than I anticipated and am still trying to understand my way around. Per the deletion request, I did removed the college's I had listed, but in order to make my subject significant and of interest, do you think if I list the services my medical office offers, that would qualify as significant or notable? Molar28 (talk) 01:39, 18 May 2013 (UTC)Molar28

Hi. What you need to do is show how the organization is notable by Wikipedia's criteria. Basically, has the company been significantly discussed in reliable sources? (For example, newspaper articles, well-known web sites, etc.) It can't be just a listing of information about the company. More information can be found at WP:Notability and WP:ORG. Removal of Corrections to Doris Wishman Entry?

I would ask you to please respond to my inquiry about removing numerous corrections I made to the entry on Doris Wishman.

The contributions were removed, you claim, because they "didn’t appear constructive to me." I am unfamiliar with Wikipedia's 'constructiveness' protocols. Since they corrected numerous factual errors made by the original contributor, it is my opinion that they were highly constructive.

Many thanks for responding or for restoring my corrections. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.237.249.152 (talk) 22:21, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Jeff Johnson (Bass)

The comments on Jeff Johnson's Wikipedia page come straight from his short biography on his record label site (http://originarts.com/artists/artist.php?Artist_ID=26). They are both true, accurate and can be confirmed by any A-List jazz musician in the Seattle jazz scene, as well as the owner of his label whom I know personally. Although Jeff doesn't always update the calender on his website, he gigs daily. What was NOT true, accurate or even remotely acceptable was the false death notice recently posted on his page which was not appreciated by those of us who know him personally! It would be greatly appreciated if in the future, you and others would exercise due diligence and do your research when altering articles about living people, especially statements which pertain to their deaths. I'm sure his mother and other family members would not have appreciated being frightened in this manner had they run across the reference to Jeff's death as I did! Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dat JaZzCat (talkcontribs) 07:47, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

I don't know why you're going on about a false death notice as I have nothing to do with that. I removed content that was clearly WP:PEACOCKy in nature, in that it was not stating facts but merely promoting the subject. Furthermore it came from the record label's web page, which may bring up copyright issues. ... discospinster talk 13:16, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Discospinster, you're apparently not listening! Jeff's short bio is NOT going to cause issues! I personally know all of the players involved, i.e., Jeff Johnson, Hal Galper, Jessica Williams as well as the owner of Origin Records, John Bishop. I work/perform with musicians from that label, including doing promo work for some of their concerts. So please get a clue! And quite frankly if you don't think a false death notice on a living person's page is a problem then you really need to check your standards when it comes to accuracy in reporting! Dat JaZzCat (talk) 19:07, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

I said that I had nothing to do with any false death notice. The issue here is the neutrality of the content. The article is not supposed to talk about how wonderful and talented he is. It is only supposed to present facts and references. "He is one of the most on-call working musicians in the competitive Seattle musical arena and his contribution to jazz is substantial and continuing." That is not a neutral sentence, so it does not belong in the article. ... discospinster talk 19:14, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Oh, I see. So saying that Ella Fitzgerald is known as "the 'First Lady of Song' and the 'Queen of Jazz' is not allowed, either, I suppose? Or going on to say that "she was noted for her purity of tone, impeccable diction, phrasing and intonation, and a "horn-like" improvisational ability, particularly in her scat singing." Why don't you go and edit Ella's page now, because those statements and monikers are clearly subjective and will act to promote her albums. That is utterly full of bologna! Dat JaZzCat (talk) 19:21, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Those are things that other people have said about her. One of the references in the article is a book called "Ella Fitzgerald: A Biography of the First Lady of Jazz" and another is called "Ella Fitzgerald: First Lady of Song". Here's another place where she is complimented. If you can show me where someone else has said that Jeff Johnson's contribution to jazz is "substantial and continuing" then that can go in the article (his own record label web page doesn't count). ... discospinster talk 19:27, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

There are many sources, but this one is from when Jeff was inducted into the Jazz Hall of Fame. Read to your heart's content and then kindly quit debating an issue that you clearly know nothing about. http://www.earshot.org/Publication/profiles/profile_12_06_Jeff_Johnson.html Dat JaZzCat (talk) 19:37, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

United Ants article

Hi. We have problems with the UNITED ANTS article on wikipedia. We have a company founded before this article was written called ANTS and registered as ANTS and UNITED ANTS for spectacles and music events. Our main concern is that this article has been written after we founded the company and we have rights of use of the name in Europe already and we are registering the trademark in the States too. Also, as wikipedia is a very powerful tool, when someone searchs for UNITED ANTS on a search engine, the first page is the article on wikipedia and we are losing clients because of this. I would appreciate if we could find a solution for this: or to remove the article written after we registered the name or to have two articles under the same name. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.152.172.98 (talk) 08:23, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

I'm afraid there's not much that can be done about that, since it's Google's algorithm that determines what results searchers are going to get. Even if your company name is a registered trademark, it doesn't legally prevent an encyclopedia from having an article about an organization with the same name, since Wikipedia is not competing with your products or services.
If your company is notable — that is, if it's been significantly discussed in multiple reliable sources — then there can be a Wikipedia article about it under a slightly different name (for example United Ants (company)). ... discospinster talk 14:33, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

That's what I thought. We are a small, but proud city and have great civic pride. Again, I invite you to visit us and see the real Prescott.

It doesn't matter whether I've heard of them or not, only whether they are notable by Wikipedia's criteria of WP:NLIST. ... discospinster talk 20:39, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

So should we put it to a vote? I respectfully suggest that you are reading a bit to deeply into the guidelines. Again, as a life long resident of Prescott, I'm telling you that he is well known here. He is a respected and, shall I say, famous person in these parts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.162.8.80 (talk) 20:46, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Don't add names to the list unless they're already notable enough to sustain their own article. This isn't Prescottpedia, it's a global encyclopedia, and notability requires more than local significance. Acroterion (talk) 20:52, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Deletions/changes without fully checking

Just was wondering why you deleted my changes to a wrong definition about Whipple's disease? You made the change within the same minute I made the change, hence you had to spend less than one minute even reviewing my change. Therefore, I question whether you actually had a chance to even figure out the change I made, let alone review it for accuracy. Did this have anything to do with the fact I am not a registered user? To your credit you did not reverse my revert, but rarely have I run into someone on Wikipedia that appears so cavalier about reversing edits. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.109.228.238 (talk) 23:01, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi Discospinster, I didn't mean to jump the gun while you were in the process of cleaning the article, but I've nominated it for speedy as a blatant advert, without a single reliable source or any references to the ostensible subject. 99.149.85.229 (talk) 23:35, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. I couldn't even find a reference to the genre at Google News [1], which confirms my suspicion that its only purpose was promotional. I'll check the article history to see if it once had legitimate purpose. 99.149.85.229 (talk) 23:41, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

bad check restitution

You keep deleting the link to my web page, protectcheckwriter.com, which used to be, checkrestitution.com. Private DA check collecton companies are a horrible trick on consumers, who are fooled into believing they are going to be prosecuted if they don't take a "diversion class" that is offered only as an excuse to add on up to $235 in a class fee (in addition to other fees.) The wikipedia page seems to have been put together by companies advocating these programs, and by me, advocating for the consumer. I do not deny wanting to represent victims of these scams, but if you look on the web, you'll see that I have the only site that provides any consumer info. The other sites are simply DA sites supporting these programs. (And most of those sites are maintained by the two major companies that run DA check collection businesses, look for DA sites with either a checkprogram.com, or hotchecks.com address.) It is not my fault that no one else with a web presence is standing up for consumers on this issue, but the fact remains that there is no one in the country who has as much information as I have about these business, other than someone who works for them. (Check out the news articles on my website. I am quoted in almost all of them, not b/c I'm smarter than anyone else, but b/c I happen to have developed a real expertise in this area.) By the way, I talk to consumers without charge, and have provided information to hundreds of restitution program victims without ever filing a case or receiving any compensation.

Any while your editing, why don't you take out the entire paragraph devoted to explaining the vacated jury verdict in a case in which the defendant got temporarily lucky.

Paul Arons 174.125.108.31 (talk) 20:20, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

All you have done is supplied a link to the front page of your website, which in itself does not have any information about the subject other than the fact that you are a lawyer and that people can contact you. And the paragraph about the vacated jury verdict is informative, it doesn't really matter why the defendant won. ... discospinster talk 20:27, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

The article Roberta Pedon has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Re: bad check restitution

I'm also getting feedback from an editor named Barek, and I don't know if you two are linked. Is there a way to have him as part of this discussion?

1. You are right about the website. However, if you go to http://protectcheckwriters.com/district-attorney-letter.html, there is more info., so I could change the link. My former website checkrestitution.com had even more info., but I streamlined it to make it more readable. This is a complex subject and even the wikipedia page does not do it justice.

2. Legal rulings are significant. A vacated jury verdict isn't. It means nothing. It provides no information other than that at one past point in a lawsuit the defendant had achieved a temporary advantage. The verdict was vacated, which means it was erased. The parties have submitted opposing summary judgment motions to a new judge. There should be a decision in a month or two, and I anticipate the court will again rule that this whole thing is illegal debt collection.

3. My point in wanting to link to the wikipedia page is not to drum up business. It's because there is no other source of consumer information on this subject on the web. If you search "bad check restitution" or "check enforcement unit" you will see pages of links to DA check collection websites. Wikipedia readers should have access to more information. At the very least, my web page will provide information helpful to having check writers figure out if they have been contacted by the real DA, as oppossed to a debt collector that is using DA letterhead.

I just don't have the time or enthusiasm at this stage in life to rewrite the review even though I am well qualified to do it. I had even submitted a version that was devoid of figures (it had only the literature citations), and that was rejected, too. In that form it was in no way a violation of copyright. Maybe someone else will do it someday. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.76.128.86 (talk) 18:10, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit

Hi. I believe you were wrong to revert this edit to United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. It would be helpful in the future if you would include an edit summary when making any change at all to an article, even if you think it is minor (and so mark it), and even if you think it's obvious that you're repairing vandalism. I'm not quite sure what your thinking was, but I've effectively undone your edit. Thanks. jhawkinson (talk) 05:43, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
