Hi, I saw you have been working on Jessie J's new single "Bang Bang", I'm a huge fan of hers, so I would like to ask you if you could keep an eye on the US charts, like the Billboard Hot 100, so if this song enters that chart you could be able to update it on this song's article. Hi, when you were reverting this guy, did you not notice that the youtube link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEu-FnaHnUg is not the official CNN channel and thus is violating WP:LINKVIO? So you were reverting copyright violations back into the article in your haste to editwar & block a noob? He has a point about the CAMERA section, it's UNDUE weight when those particular criticisms don't appear to have picked up any wider currency. The article as a whole needs attention, the VIEWS section is just a collection of cherrypicked quotes ( with another WP:LINKVIO and at least one non RS). Before you say SOFIXIT, there's no point..as an IPaddr I'd simply get reverted by a trigger happy patroller. regards 46.64.218.108 (talk) 04:21, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
PS The page Diana Buttu is clearly covered by WP:ARBPIA as the subject as a Palestinian & former PLO spokesperson and the content being removed (& readded by you) directly concerning current & past conflicts. All WP:ARBPIA are covered by 1RR and the content removals were NOT clear vandalism ( poo/shit/roxxorz etc) as the user posted above noting that the removed content was misleading or worse. Are you going to give yourself an WP:AE block now? As this is also a BLP you should have cut the guy a bit of slack & not gone straight to INDEF him. I'll leave it up to you to decide if you are the sort of admin who gets off on punishing unwary noobs, or the sort who carries a big stick but uses it lightly :) regards 46.64.218.108 (talk) 05:20, 6 August 2014 (UTC)

Phillip Schofield
Hello Discospinster, How are you? I just noticed that you reverted my edit of Phillip Schofield. I was wondering what the problem was. I know that it is a big edit. I am sorry that I may not have expressed myself properly in the edit summary, but I believe that I made valid edits. I have been editing off and on for the past few years and have taken tips from various other major users and I use those tips when editing page.
I thought when writing on Wikipedia, it is preferable to use the person's surname, in this case "Schofield" as that is a more encyclopedic way of writing. I also thought the opening paragraph above the table of contents needed to be more clear and concise and not include repetition. (Do you we really need to mention that Schofield hosts the Text Santa telethon in three different parts of the same article?) For this opening, I kept the important parts, eliminated the repetition of items already mentioned below, and moved the paragraph about his wine magazine column underneath the paragraph about his passion for wine.
I am a bit upset that you chose to revert this edit two minutes after I had edited the page. I had not only cleaned up the opening paragraph, but I fixed spelling mistakes, added missing words and fixed a source making it linkable. Also I only removed one reference that was extraneous. Would it be possible to look over the revert and change it back or at least do something to compromise? Thanks! 74.15.186.97 (talk) 01:23, 22 August 2014 (UTC)samusek2
- I think the problem was that there was some content removed that was not explained in the edit summary. For example, the removal of a source, and the paragraph about the British Soap Awards. And you replaced "alongside" with "awith". I can revert it back, but it would probably be better if you did the edits (or type of edits) one at a time so that the edit summary can reflect what has changed. ... discospinster talk 14:08, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

Why did you undo my edit? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Boston nate (talk • contribs) 21:49, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Hi Boston nate. Wikipedia has a strict policy on how we write about living people. Wikipedia is one of the top 5 websites on the planet—if someone types anything in Google, Wikipedia will almost certainly be on the first page of results if we have an article about it. As a result, we have to pay special attention to living people. Anything we write about them can actually harm them in real life if it isn't backed up by high-quality reliable sources. In other words, we need to get the article right. And one important policy we have is that any poorly sourced negative information that is added about living people should be removed. Next time, you need to back up your content with reliable sources—see Wikipedia:Citing sources and Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners for how to do this. We thank you for your interest in contributing to Wikipedia, however. Check out our introduction to editing for more information on how you can contribute constructively. Hello, there you deleted one of my edits on Austin & Ally which I believed was correct. good day, you have canceled a deletion of a section of the Zim article. indeed the last change was not explained, however this has been explained several times below by other users, yet the the writer of section named "target of blockades insists on putting it back, quite obviously due to his political agenda. As explained in earlier edits, this section does not belong in this article. Its la short, concise article about 70 years of history - with a full section about an isolated, insignificant incident which should be under a different article. I'm sure others will continue to insist on deleting it, and quite rightly so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.179.167.76 (talk) 05:28, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

why did you reinstate deleted sections?
Hello,
Why do you wish to maintain disparaging content for a statesman and one of Lowell's most respected and prominent citizens of the 19th and early 20th centuries? The two sources given are only opinions on Allen's work, and as such, are highly controversial. It seems wrong to create a bio of someone who isn't here to defend himself and using only one side of the story, from two obscure sources published in 1962 and 1972 by two relatively unknown authors. (Thomas Aitken Jr. and Manuel Maldonado Denis). Many Puerto Ricans credit Governor Allen with bringing much needed capital and infrastructure into Puerto Rico after two devastating hurricanes had left the island in disaster.

NMEA 2000 Manufacturer List
Hi. I am interested to know why you have repeatedly deleted Maretron from the list of manufacturers.
I (a Maretron employee) am the original author of the NMEA 2000 page. The first image on the page was created and supplied by Maretron, while the second image is a photo of Maretron products.
One of the articles in the references was authored by L. Anderson, who was at the time the technical director of NMEA and in charge of the development of the NMEA 2000 standard. He left NMEA to become Maretron's VP of Sales and Marketing until his retirement in 2011.
Maretron has been extremely active over the past decade in development of the NMEA 2000 standard, and is well-known throughout the industry as experts in the field.
If this is not sufficient, please let me know what suffices for "notability" on your part. Femnett (talk) 15:01, 29 August 2014 (UTC)
- The entry was a redlink and didn't indicate why it's notable enough to be on the list (like the other entries I removed). Gun Violence in the United States Persistent Changes
There is an user that has been using multiple IP addresses on the page Gun violence in the United States to add information that's only source is an opinion article. Over the last few days they have been adding their changes only to have them removed by other users. I am contacting you because if revert another one of his edits I will technically be edit warring and his style seems to be similar to that of another IP user who did the same kind of thing to the page Gun politics in the United States which you helped stop. Hope you can help. SantiLak (talk) 22:34, 29 August 2014 (UTC)

repeated abuse and vandalism
hi,
first off, thanks for intervening and reverting the vandalism carried out by the sockpuppets on my talk page and on recent articles i have contributed on.
the sock master is back and continuing to vandalize pages and i would appreciate it if you could redact WP:RD2 the racial epithets.
this is his latest attack, the ip used here has been previously used for attacks but was only temporarily blocked. it now appears that it is a static ip under only the sockmaster's control, and may require a more permanent block. i have also reported this ip under Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Shulinjiang.
could you also take a look at the edit summaries of
64.134.160.61, the term used there is a highly offensive racially derogatory term and i would again appreciate it if you could redact them. (you have redacted the edits themselves but seem to have overlooked redacting the edit summaries)
thank you. Pvpoodle (talk) 16:13, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

IP User Vandalism Ukrainian Articles
I noticed that you reverted some of the vandalism that that IP user made in the talk page of Battalions of territorial defense in Ukraine and I was wondering if you could help me out with the actual article Battalions of territorial defense in Ukraine. Over the last 24 hours, one IP user utilizing multiple IP's has been changing article information to their opinion such as changing "Pro-Russian Unrest" to "Anti-nationalist rebellion" and "Ukrainian soldiers had difficulty combating insurgents" to "Ukrainian soldiers had difficulty suppressing dissent". They have changed ip's several times. Now they have turned to constantly reverting the removals and vandalizing my user page and talk page with warnings that they copied and pasted from one of their IP's talk pages that I posted there. I'm not sure how you can help but I hope you can. Thanks. SantiLak (talk) 23:02, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

92.28.139.23 - vandalism, or what?
Hi, I see you have already encountered 92.28.139.23. If you have a moment, can you please have a look at their later contributions? I can't figure out what is going on here - I suspect that it is not serious editing but then I don't know how tall Joe Frazier was either! I've left them a warning but I'd hate to be unfairly accusing a legit editor just because it feels a bit off to me. I'd be most grateful if you had a chance to have a look. PP of my userpage
Hi, thanks for the protection of my userpage just as an FYI im quite happy for my userpage to act as a buffer to the generic vandalism of pages (i've noted that when i revert people they tend to take it to my page rather than carry on with the vandalism. i'm not sure if its a policy that it should be protected or not but dont worry if it happens again it always seems to get reveted quite qickly. Also the last IP who vandalised it seems to be following a very Evlekis pattern of abusing my userpage at about this time of day so it might be worth throwing it into the suspected sockpile for him. New User and IP user un-constructive activities
Sorry to bother you again but I recently noticed that there is a user who has created a very short autobiographical page about themselves twice now. All the page says is "A athlete and Hip-Hop musician" but the user does not stop there. They have been using an IP address user to vandalize the page Meagan Good and remove material multiple times over and over and change the spouse to the page that they recently created, Leo-Bentt Wionpoh Chea. They have been properly warned multiple times on their IP talk page but they continue to edit that page and re-add their deleted page. I hope you can help somehow and again, super sorry to bother you again. SantiLak (talk) 00:41, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Howdy Discospinster. A experienced editor has proposed to change the standard for inclusion of List of twelve-step groups from being a list of wikipedia articles, to being a list of 12 step groups (without the necessity of having an article attached to the entry). How is it subjective that these quotes are stereotyping 'the English"? When describing their 'disgusting houses' he says "all", surely this is the definition of stereotyping? Judging the whole nation by the actions of a few. Is this not true? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.150.71.0 (talk) 13:59, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- It should still be described neutrally. "Stereotypes" carries a negative connotation, while "likens" does not. ... discospinster talk 14:03, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
So it is both subjective and not neutral? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.150.71.0 (talk) 14:04, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, pretty much. ... discospinster talk 14:06, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
Either he stereotyped or not - it is a factual matter not a subjective one. To not put 'stereotype' on the grounds that you think it sounds negative would be the complete opposite of being neutral. But I can see you have made your mind up and I will give up.
- Something may be "factual" but also not neutral — just because something "is or isn't" doesn't preclude the description from being biased. (You could say that someone is either a racist or not a racist, but calling them one is not neutral.) ... discospinster talk 14:14, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
I'm aware of that, my original point was that he described "all" english houses as "disgusting", this is factually, undeniably stereotyping - unless you're contending it is possible he visited every single house in England it is a definitive fact that he stereotyped. So to reiterate, your decision to not put "stereotyping", despite the fact that by its very definition that is exactly what the the author did, is on the basis that you think to do so would paint him in a negative light. This is not a neutral decision. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.150.71.0 (talk) 14:24, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
On top of that your analogy to racism doesn't hold water. To say someone is racist, as opposed to defining a statement someone made as 'being a racist statement", is to say you know what they think or feel - which is impossible and clearly not neutral. To say the author here stereotyped is not to say anything of his character, or what he thinks or feels, it is only to say, by the definition of "to stereotype", that that is what he did, as evidenced by the quotes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.150.71.0 (talk) 15:40, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
Am I to take it that your lack of reply indicates you agree that whether someone "stereotyped" or not is not open to bias, but are too stubborn to change it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.150.71.0 (talk) 09:02, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
- I thought the issue was settled. Anyway, saying that someone made a "racist statement" is also not neutral, since calling something racist carries a negative connotation. You can say that someone made statements perceived as racist (with citations showing who perceived them that way). Likewise, it is more neutral to say that Magueijo's book was perceived as stereotyping Brits, and then add references to authors who have made that claim. ... discospinster talk 11:22, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
Im sorry but your first statement is simply wrong - To say someone made a "racist statement" is entirely neutral if the statement they made is, by it's definition, racist (i.e "showing the belief that a particular race is superior to another."), it only carries a "negative connotation" to those who consider "racism" to be a negative thing - some don't. Whether some consider it negative or not has no effect on the neutrality of the statement. In relation to this; "it is more neutral to say that Magueijo's book was perceived as stereotyping Brits" - It is not a matter of perception, your example would be no different from saying "some perceive Magueijo to have said" when it is recorded he said something - it is a fact not open to interpretation or bias. Saying "Magueijo stereotyped", followed by the conclusive evidence in the quotes, is no less neutral or open to bias as saying "Magueijo said".
I think the problem is that YOUR bias (thinking that "stereotyping" is a negative thing) is tainting your view on this matter. Stereotyping is not inherently negative or positive, it has no moral meaning but your bias is making you think it would not be neutral to say "stereotype" despite the fact that it is objectively, definitively correct - this is not a neutral position to be in.
