Secret Societies Edits
Hi,
I edited the Collegiate Secret Societies page to include mine; I would like future members to see that this society existed. There are no online references, as this is a relatively new society. However, there are many other societies on this page without references. Could I please be allowed to retain the addition of this society?
Thank you very much for considering this request.
- If there aren't any references, then there is no way to verify its existence. Until there are some references (by third parties) that show it's a significant club, then it doesn't belong on the page. ... discospinster talk 02:36, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
Creation of the page Smartron
Hi Discospinster, I was trying to create a new article on Smartron - The electronic brand which offers Smartphone, Laptops etc which has investors like Sachin Tendulkar (Indian cricketer). I noticed that there was already a page create under this name before which was deleted. I wanted to inform you that I will be adding a fresh content on the new article. Can you please share the previous deleted page article content if you have so that I can see if it violated any of the wiki terms. Also would need your feedback as well. Akash207 (talk)

Peter George
Hi!
I don't disagree that the first paragraph was the wrong place to mention his death. Respectfully, I don't know that one's death should be listed under their "Accomplishments", however I'm at a loss for a better place to mention it, given the other content on the page. Perhaps the reference should be removed entirely?
Thanks

- The Diego Maradona article calls him an "Argentine retired professional footballer", and Alessandro Del Piero is also an "Italian former professional footballer" but I don't know if that's been changed back and forth. Paraduin
Hi, I removed your WP:PROD template at Paraduin, because the reason you provided seemed invalid. The third-party sources don't need to be significant, their coverage of the topic must be. Significant coverage means: more than trivial, but it doesn't need to be the main topic, see WP:GNG. I believe that references 7-10 together provide significant independent direct coverage. The article seems on par with the average micronation lemma. However, if you still have doubts about the notability of this topic, I suggest posting at WP:WikiProject Micronations. Help to confirm if source is independent on my Article
Hello discospinster talk
Thank you for your review as it really helps to expand research on content and get acquainted with the Wikipedia platform as a newbie. - Hi Olusegun, the source you provided is certainly independent, as it was not written by the subject or affiliated with the subject. Value Added Tax in Bangladesh edit
Hi Discospinster, I saw that you have edited my page Value Added Tax in Bangladesh and removed some content. - The content that I removed was promotional in tone, as if it was trying to "sell" the VAT, rather than simply reporting the facts. It is appropriate for the government's web page but not for an encyclopedia. Deletion of Etea Sicurezza
Hello, I was working around this article since I've seen other Italian company stubs.
I was writing about the patented technology that this company has created because I believe is important to distinguish the kind of technology used in fire protection since this particular one use much less water and energy and create a Water Mist, which is different from the traditional systems.
The mechanism has been created for extinguishing fire in military submarines, in which a traditional system, how is described in the Fire Sprinkler page of Wikipedia, cannot be applied since it can ruin electronics and people can't escape from the vessels.
The Water Mist technology is useful in any kind of places where there is the need to extinguish fire but the water may damage the delicate component.
It also extinguish fire is much less time than traditional sprinklers, so I believe is important since it can save lives in case of emergency.
Since this technology uses less water and pressure (4 bars) is suitable in places with scares resources, and meet the energy and resource saving's philosophy and the current era. I believe is important because many countries don't have access to large amount of water (a resource that we take for granted but is a serious matter in some places).
The company is also owned by a larger multinational group with subsidiaries around the World, serving many countries.
I'm new in Wikipedia and I want to give my contribution, I was trying to write a nice article meanwhile learning how to add references and images.
I really would like to talk about this technology, so I ask to if you'll be so kind to guide me in the article creation and reconsider the article deletion.
Thank you very much
- The article has to show how the company is notable by Wikipedia's criteria. This means it has been discussed significantly in independent sources, like newspapers or trade publications. Please see WP:Notability and WP:CORP for more guidance. ... discospinster talk 13:49, 17 August 2017 (UTC)

I would like to resubmit the article on Emmanuel Etim for undeleletion. I'm new to wikipedia and wanted to make changes to the picture in the infobox. If i violated wikipedia's policy it was a mistake. I hope this explanation is sufficient for the article to be resubmitted and reviewed.

Miss Planet 2015
Just to let you know that the article Miss Planet 2015 which you deleted yesterday has been recreated again today - I've no idea what state the previous article was in, but the current one cites no sources, and from a quick reading appears to be a non-notable beauty contest. Richard3120 (talk) 23:18, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
Update: on further investigation I'm not convinced the whole thing isn't just a hoax – there was a Miss Planet contest in 2015, but it was held in Tiblisi, Georgia [1]. Googling the contestants' names, even the "winner", draws complete blanks... funnily enough the only one who really does appear to exist is the Indian contestant, where this supposed contest took place. The one reference in the article is simply an untitled JPG picture of Asha Bhat being crowned Miss Supranational 2014 [2], but there's no evidence she went on to a Miss Planet pageant the following year, as stated in this article. If you look through the page history for these guitarists, you will see many times where people have tried to introduce ethnicity into the lead rather than just citizenship and this change has generally been rejected. Please open discussions on the relevant talk pages. Also, it is perhaps a pet peeve of mine but could you please not use the "minor" edit designation for edits that are not minor? Unfortunately, that still won't work, because it exceeds the maximum length allowed for signatures. Characters can be saved by omitting the space after color:
and by removing the optional semicolons, but that is still not enough in your case. A further workaround is required, and that is to substitute at least one color from name to numeric code, from this chart:
- DarkGray = #A9A9A9

- DarkOliveGreen = #556B2F

All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Spin squeezing
Dear Discospinster,
I tried to create a definition of spin squeezing. Now I have noticed that you put the first version of my text as a draft, since it was very short. I did not notice it until now, so I put newer longer versions on the internet. They have several references, and the text is longer. I hope, it is OK.
Thanks!

- It's fine now. I moved it to your draft page at the same time you were updating it, so it got crossed. ... discospinster talk 18:31, 17 December 2017 (UTC)
How to see deleted content
You deleted Donald James LeRoy, but where can I find the deleted content so I can work on it again (an improved version without the copyright infringement)? I spent a LOT of time on it, and it wasn't just from those two sources. And the formatting for the biography profile box took a long time. I'd like to get the deleted content back just to work on it again. Dr. Universe (talk) 06:39, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
- Only administrators can see deleted content. I can put the infobox on a page in Draft space for you to work on, but I can't put the copyrighted content back in for the same reason it was deleted in the first place. Here is the Draft article: Draft:Donald James Le Roy. ... discospinster talk 14:20, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
Why do some websites get a page but not others?
My page for Talent Recap was just deleted. It had been up for about four hours. It was marked for deletion and then deleted before I could add more internal links and external citations.
What's confusing me is why it was marked for deletion (and, of course, so speedily deleted) when other, similar sites are not. For example: Show-Score. It's just a site. It has a blog, it produces videos, it's on Twitter and Facebook. It's a start-up in New York City, but isn't owned by anyone and has no celebrities or big names attached to it. All these things are true of Talent Recap as well.
Show-Score has a Wikipedia page. Talent Recap's didn't last a day. I've been reading all the articles you link to but I can't determine a difference between the two. Can you help me out? I'd really like to add another page to my "creation resume," and I'll do whatever it takes for Talent Recap to clear that hurdle. Or, I'd like to see Show-Score pulled from the site. Fair's fair.
Thanks for any advice, information, or assistance you can provide. QuarterbackSneak (talk)
- In the case of Show-Score, there are many citations showing that other well-known sources (e.g. Variety) have talked about the site. Just because something exists, that doesn't mean it's going to have a Wikipedia article. It has to be notable, which means "received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." I wasn't able to find much of that when I searched Google for Talent Recap (which is not surprising since it is relatively new). I suggest working on the article in draft space first, so it will not be subject to deletion. See WP:DRAFT for the process. ... discospinster talk 17:25, 17 January 2018 (UTC)

"Henry (vacuum)" page
Hello :)
You recently took off a list of vacuums from my Henry page I made yesterday and I worked very hard on that. The point was to inform users about the basic Henry's. Also the list was of the currently being made Henry's, so people know which ones are currently available brand new. Please consider allowing me to put it back because it took me around 1-2 hours with the references and everything.
Thanks :)

Hi - thanks for your mssg regarding the Wiki entry "Undercover Rock" which I created.
As you can tell I'm an inexperienced contrib to Wikipedia, so glad to be steered in the right direction.
You probably also realised the entry was a first effort. Rather than debate the notability of the subject here, my plan would be to do some more work on the entry and re-publish.

Response to all your comments/observations regarding my draft Kopparapu Poets
For all Users and Administrators: User: Legacypac and Robert McClenon and User: Discospinster This note is in response to all your comments on my draft: Kopparapu Poets or Literary Duo: Kopparapu poets. While the former is found in the sandbox as a redirected draft, the second one is found in the edit summary/contributions page. Though the two drafts are having different heads, the content is same. In fact, I have summoned my colleague in English department yesterday night; he sat down on my laptop and edited the text. After his clearing it, I moved it into article space. Then a set of four notices flashed on the article page stating that the draft was under the finishing stage of review and should not have been moved to article space--Inform author. Probaly due to this all edits could have got undone. Thus User: Robert McClenon could not find any edits carried out by my fellow academic from English dept.
We are all academics in English and communication department in a reputed University in India, and keep writing to national and international journals in English. Yet with all humility we accept your suggestions and follow them.
With regard to the comments of User: Discospinster, I have a simple answer. All of you may kindly read a similar piece available in the English Wikipedia on Tirupati Venkata Kavulu and find out whether the comments/observations that you have made on my draft Kopparapu Poets applies to it? Also kindly examine whether the article Tirupati Venkata Kavulu is well sourced with independently available references? Whether the article Tirupati Venkata Kavulu is not written in praise of them? Was it written neutrally totally? It is interesting to note that for similar articles/write ups different yardsticks have been applied by reviewers be they the editors or the administrators. Same questions are posed again and again by different editors. For instance I have clarified that an identical piece in Telugu is already available in Telugu Wikipedia on Kopparapu Poets entitled as Kopparapu Sodara Kavulu [1]. In keeping with a call from Wikipedia English, I have written about same poets in English wikipedia. However, all of you kindly read this restponse at a time and arrive at a calculated decision whether to keep it? Please note that I have high regard for all of you and have not made any comments against any of you personally. MUMACHA2203 (talk) 10:22, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
Kopparapu Poets--Common response to you as well as Legacypac
Dear User: Robert McClenon Thanks for your response. I am a new contributor to this Wikipedia. We are a batch of English professors who wished to try our hand in Wikipedia. I had not intentionally created two drafts as you rightly assumed in good faith. If you can be of some help in this regard, kindly retain the Draft: Kopparapu Duo Poets presently available in my sandbox and delete the Draft: Literary Duos: Kopparapu Poets. In fact I pray you to kindly delete 'Duo' from the Draft: Kopparapu Duo Poets as I do not know how to delete it. Let it be simple Kopparapu Poets.
I have just now got edited/rewritten the Draft: Kopparapu Poets available in sandbox in which you find some of your comments posted atop the draft. It is awaiting further review after re-submission. As there is no bar in editing the draft under re-submission I have got it edited. I have done some more work by adding additional references to the the text besides adding external links. These external links direct anyone to online verifiable independent sources which clarifies to the reviewers' any doubts not only about the notability of Kopparapu Poets but also about their rich contribution to Telugu and Sanskrit poetry and literature.
Compared to the article on Tirupati Venkata Kavulu in English Wikipedia, this draft is more sourced from various texts and links. The article on Tirupati Venkata Kavulu is not the only piece in English Wikipedia which is under sourced. I can take you to a number of such articles in English Wikipedia on a whirlwind trip. But, the editors and administrators refuse to delete such articles due to various excuses. My academic friends note that there are so many problems with Wiki-policies and the attitudes of its editors/administrators. According to them, even if an article is accepted and posted into article space, there is no guarantee it would remain same after a week's time.Meanwhile, a number of editors/administrators keep on editing its text and no one knows where and in which form/shape the article ends up after a week.
I do not want to argue with you on these matters. However, as an editor you might be facing a number of such complaints from both India and other countries round the world. I do not wish to move my draft into article space. I know the dangers involved in doing so. But, I shall be grateful if you kindly review and give your suggestions to improve it. Our understanding is that neither you nor we have any problem with English as we do keep writing to international journals and audiences. A number of my US/UK colleagues have read this text since the controversy erupted over our writing of this piece in English. They only felt that as the nature of the subject itself is problematic it might have compounded the problem of the editor. A prior reading of what is Avadhanam in Wikipedia and by clicking on the link given to access Encyclopedia of Indian Literature published by Sahitya Academy New Delhi, one can know about the notability of Kopparapu Brothers vis a vis their contemporaries Tirupati Venkata Kavulu and Venkata Ramakrishna Kavulu. One may also refer to the online article available in the Hindu dated Dec 7 2012 in which reference is made to the notability and scholarly excellence of Kopparapu Poets at par with other contemporaries of the times. However my draft will remain in draft space till one of the reviewers and administrators clears it.
I am copying this to all other users such as User: Legacypac, User: Discospinster etc for their perusal. MUMACHA2203 (talk) 13:19, 24 May 2018 (UTC)

Need advice/help
You were very helpful when I was working on Criticisms of medicine in my sandbox, and you also participated in the AfD discussion. Would you be willing to help once more? The AfD discussion was closed with a delete decision, which I appealed on the grounds that there was no consensus to delete. After a week, today an administrator ruled to overturn the deletion and restore the article. (As I recall, the vote of participating editors was 6 to 4 to overturn, only one of the 4 was an administrator, and the 4 did not have strong policy-based arguments.)
Within minutes of the restoring of the page Alexbrn, who had originally proposed the article for deletion and who had accused me of bad faith (having a "problematic agenda", presumably meaning promotion of CAM), did a large number of delete edits that reduced the size of the article from about 19KB to roughly 1300 bytes, after which he immediately proposed the butchered article for deletion. He clearly was angry about the decision that resulted from consensus in the appeal. Several other editors have come in to this second AfD discussion to call for deletion for reasons not truly based on policy, but rather based on their feeling that the article promotes CAM.
I believe that this is bad-faith editing by Alexbrn and refusal to accept consensus of the appeal process by him and other editors who are participating in his new call to delete.
Can you help or advise me on how this situation should be handled? Thanks in advance, and sorry to trouble you.NightHeron (talk) 02:29, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
P.S. @Discospinster: There's a discussion of this on the closing admin's talk page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:RoySmith#Question_on_how_to_handle_difficulty_over_Criticisms_of_medicine NightHeron (talk) 02:56, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- This is WP:CANVASSING. Also, if you have problems with an editor the place to raise them is at WP:AIN, making accusations elsewhere is problematic. I have never accused you of "bad faith". Alexbrn (talk) 05:04, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Alexbrn: Once again you are making an accusation against me by falsely citing WP policy. I'm too new to Wikipedia editing to know what to do in a situation when an editor breaks procedure after an appeal goes in favor of an article he doesn't like. In other words, I need help. Nothing in WP:CANVASSING says that someone cannot ask for help and advice from an administrator who in the past has been helpful. You have the WikiProject Medicine site, whose members have the right to communicate with one another about pages that should get attention. That's not "canvassing", and my communications with this administrator, who was very helpful with my draft, is also not "canvassing". Your earlier accusation that I had a "problematic agenda" was presuming bad faith. It's also utterly false, as I made clear repeatedly. There are strong opponents of the CAM profiteers who share my viewpoint about the alt med article, see for example the NPOV noticeboard. I've repeatedly appealed for civility, which is better than the anger and false accusations that have come my way.NightHeron (talk) 08:04, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- I do not presume "bad faith", nor have I accused you of it - you seem quite open and up-front in what you are doing. I disagree with it, however. Presenting a fictional demeaning and personalized account ("He clearly was angry" / "based on their feeling") to a targeted user who voted the way you wanted is naughty. You have been warned. Alexbrn (talk) 08:18, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Alexbrn: Your suggestion of WP:AIN is helpful. Thanks. I'm not familiar with what one is supposed to do when established procedures are disrespected and a disagreement escalates in such an unexpected manner.
- I am glad you now characterize my editing as "open and up front," but your earlier false accusation that I have a "problematic agenda" means the opposite of "open and up front" and is inconsistent with WP:GF.
- The policy WP:Canvassing relates to soliciting participation in an ongoing discussion. I haven't done that. In fact, I suggested on the new AfD page that nothing should be done there until an administrator deals with the procedural situation, but of course some others obviously disagree.NightHeron (talk) 08:36, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- A problematic agenda does not mean "bad faith"; it means editing being done against the grain of the WP:PAGs; multiple other editors are saying this kind of thing too (see the AfD responses). I believe all my actions are in line with helping achieve consensus in this area, to the overall benefit of the Project. Alexbrn (talk) 08:45, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Alexbrn: If my true motive were to promote fraud and quackery rather than to improve Wikipedia, that would be bad faith editing on my part. You and others who accuse me of having that motive are obviously accusing me of bad faith. BTW, my motives are twofold, not just to improve Wikipedia. My second motive is that I'm a strong believer in promoting science and combating pseudoscience. That's why I started participating in the alt med article talk page, leading to my writing Criticisms of medicine. The polemical lede to the alt med article plays into the hands of CAM profiteers, as I've explained and as recently explained very articulately on the NPOV noticeboard by the user who initiated a discussion there of Alternative medicine.NightHeron (talk) 14:00, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- You keep putting words in my mouth ("promote fraud and quackery") rather than grappling with what I actually wrote, or accepting what I have written here. Alexbrn (talk) 14:11, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- I'm inferring something from context that's really obvious, namely, that you're alluding to the comments by other advocates of deletion that my article serves a CAM agenda. If I was wrong in that inference, please tell me what other possible "problematic agenda" you could have been referring to.
- We should end this discussion here and continue any further discussion at WP:ANI. User:Discospinster was helpful to me, and I shouldn't be littering up this page.NightHeron (talk) 14:34, 26 May 2018 (UTC)

The Story of Light
Per WP:NCMDAB, we should disambiguate when there is another type of article of the same name. There is also really nothing to suggest the Steve Vai album is the primary topic; I don't see a tonne of news coverage, and it appears to have charted quite low in the countries it did chart in, so I believe if it were taken to a requested move discussion, most editors would agree that it needs to be disambiguated. It seems pointless to me to have to go through it. Ss112 08:29, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
- On the other hand, there are more links to the Steve Vai article than the other one, so in terms of efficiency it makes more sense to keep it as-is, rather than have to fix all the links to point to a new name. ... discospinster talk 17:47, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
- I had fixed all the incoming links already. There weren't many, maybe 10. Ss112 18:34, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
"Bad faith" editor?
Are you acting in bad faith? You are deleting pages with a decision based on the opinion of a single individual, without consensus, not waiting even 5 minutes for community responses to your comments, practically immediately. You ignore the reason for Undeletion "the closer of a deletion discussion interpreted the consensus incorrectly". Please be neutral and careful with the scientific page "Geodakyan Evolutionary Theory of Sex", this is a mathematical biology theory well known in a population with 120 millions, not just a public show-business. KaiStr (talk) 16:54, 7 June 2018 (UTC)
- the wiki's rule is that "A nominated page should remain on deletion review for at least seven days. After seven days, an administrator will determine whether a consensus exists. If that consensus is to undelete, the admin should follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Administrator instructions. " Meanwhile Mr. Lem deleted the page after 1 day discussion, and you deleted the recovered (speedy-deleting) discussion just after a couple of hours. This is not only "not nice" but also against the rules. THe original page, or at least the recent recovery version of this page should be restored. KaiStr (talk) 17:14, 7 June 2018 (UTC)
- I did not delete the page, I marked it for deletion based on the fact that there was an Articles for Deletion (AfD) discussion. The original discussion lasted from 28 April to 5 May (seven days). Quit accusing people of bad faith. As I said earlier, the proper procedure for contesting an AfD is at WP:Deletion review. ... discospinster talk 17:32, 7 June 2018 (UTC)

Decline of Speedy Deletion of DB Movie 1 and DB Movie 2
Hello,
I see that you declined those two speedy deletion requests of the redirects. You should notice that the other 3 requests to delete "DB movie 3" , "DB movie 4", and "DBZ movie 14" were successful. I nominated these for deletion as there are several movies that have the initials of "DB". This redirect would only help Dragonball fans and would limit people searching for their favorite movies who use initials.

Mixed Up Everything
While I do appreciate other editors reviewing and editing an article (because it helps the article get finished) I do not understand how creating an article for this band and for its album is any different from creating pages about other bands and their albums (examples: metallica, stone temple pilots, ozzy osbourne, etc...). I created the musical group page for this band as a reference to discover another up and coming Australian groups and for people to see their album; which is the sole purpose for any page created for any band (to be a reference).
I have contacted the wikipedia team to get clarification on this matter.

I have deleted the last comment so I have one vote in there. You are not permitted to strike out my one allowed vote at this point so please do not do so. I am still learning how the parameters of Wikipedia editing works and so i do apologize for removing the strike out. But it is pretty disheartening when a band meets 3 criteria for being permitted to have an article, that has this much recognition, has been written up by very reputable means, been played on radio, been recognized by multiple internationally famous bands and artists, are on tour and being interviewed by Dieter Dieks (producer for the Scorpions) https://twitter.com/MixdUpEvrything/status/1036286503574495234. have released their own debut album is still not worth keeping here. Isn't the main point of having a band article here due to the fact that they are noteworthy? Also, they DO meet the criteria on 3 points so why is a vote jusitified?--Derricklasaga (talk) 17:07, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Question on AFD: error vs. joke
Hello, I was checking up on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cal Simmons and noticed that Doncram's !vote was struck out with no reason given. Curious, I went to the page history and saw your edit summary "strike out joke "vote"". I checked around for a discussion leading from this on Doncram's TP but couldn't find any. Am I missing some previous exchange or something that prove it was a disruptive joke edit, instead of what to me appears to be a mistake (either in typing the name into google, or some goofup on a search engine's part? I was confused that you didn't leave a note for or ping Doncram. Thanks for your time, Thanks, L3X1 ◊distænt write◊ 00:28, 7 September 2018 (UTC)

Re Gunkies (nominated)
Of the suggested items on your list, I've done some of all up thru RENAME. After the rename I'll be doing edits, and then - if you wish to AfD it, that's your choice.
As you can note from the article's talk page, I'm not thrilled re the Gunkies name, but some research shows that the words "Computer History Wiki" is used, often preceded by "the" and at times even without the Gunkies name. Based on the capitalizations that both Gunkies and Google research provided, I'm starting by renaming to "Computer History Wiki" (without THE).
This note is my attempt to follow directions received from the Wikipedia Help Desk. Thanks for your "PROD" (in the sense of pushing someone to improve). Pi314m (talk) 16:20, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

Style for Organisms
I have a question regarding your edit to Coconut Cream (mango).
After re-reading Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Organisms#Epithets and MOS:LIFE, I see that the cultivar name in running text should not use single quotes. However, my read is that all genus and binomial usage should always be italicized, e.g. Mangifera indica. Also, that the formal taxonomic reference to a named cultivar (as in a cultivar infobox) should be quoted and capitalized, e.g. Mangifera 'Coconut Cream'.
I used the Red Delicious page as a reference.
Thoughts? I'm pretty new to this and want to get future edits right.
