There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Yunshui  14:18, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I have been asked to put up a sister sight on the Tourism Authority of Scarborough Coast (UK). My first attempt was done in a hurry and I see the problem now. I then attempted to edit the text so that it was all correct but I still seem to have been blocked. Our sister authority is "Welcome to Yorkshire" and their page is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welcome_to_Yorkshire. Please can you assist me as any violation was not intentional. I will use Welcome_to_Yorkshire as a template to input our information. Discoveryorkshirecoast (talk) 15:28, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

There are two issues with your block. Number one is that the user name is a blatant violation of our username policy, and this will need to be changed if there is any attempt at an unblock. Second is the edits themselves. We require that all edits be written from a neutral viewpoint, and cannot be promotional at all. It appears you plan on editing to promote your interest, and to be unblocked, you will need to NOT edit on your company. RickinBaltimore (talk) 17:31, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

@Yunshui: I have requested someone to clear my block. Are you able to assist?. Discoveryorkshirecoast (talk) 16:36, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

I cannot decline an unblock request for a block that I placed, so another administrator will have to do so. However, since you haven't addressed any of the issues in the template above, since your edits consisted solely of blatant spam (much of which was copied directly from your company's website), since you are in violation of Wikipedia's Terms of Use regarding paid editing, and since you are not going to be allowed to write about your company on Wikipedia again, I would not hold out much hope for a positive response. Go and promote your company somewhere else, please. Yunshui  16:44, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Yunshui: I am so sorry you feel that way. I cant edit the content etc as I am blocked. Otherwise I would have immediately changed it. It is not my company. It is the official tourism department for the Yorkshire coast. I also tried to explain that I was not trying to promote a company but I tried to give information about the tourism department. I realized that copying the content from the home page was wrong and I immediately tried to rectify that but now I cant go any further to fix it. As I explained, we are an official tourism body so everything we do has to be above board. We are not trying to spam or sell anything. Who can I speak to about fixing this please?

@RickinBaltimore: Dear Rick. Thank you for your feedback. As an official tourism authority we need to be completely above board. I will attempt to change the User name. Would the name "Discover-Yorkshire-Coast" be suitable? Otherwise we could perhaps use the name "Yorkshire Coast Tourism". I will also completely re-write the text to be completely neutral. The initial copy was not intended to be a marketing ploy. It was done in ignorance by our IT copywriter who is now in another department. I have personally taken over this function to make sure it is done correctly. Please advise how to change the UserName and to be unblocked so I can fix this? (Scarborough Borough Council)

Requested username:

Request reason:

As a department of the Scarborough Borough Council, UK, we are the official tourism body for the Yorkshire Coast. We are know as DISCOVERYORKSHIRECOAST but are happy to be called Discover-Yorkshire-Coast. If this is not suitable, we could change the user name to something like YORKSHIRE-COAST-TOURISM. Please advise.

Decline reason:

1) That's just a slight variant and clearly still represents the organization.

2) The English Wikipedia does not allow group ("We") accounts at all, so "as a department of the Scarborough Borough Council, UK", you can not have a user account here. If any individuals from your organization want to help us build our encyclopedia, they will need to create their own individual accounts which represent only themselves. @RickinBaltimore: Hi Rick. I see that "Welcome to Yorkshire" is still live and yet I cannot create an article about UK Tourism in the North East. I still feel this is unfair and I have been victimized. Discoveryorkshirecoast (talk) 12:38, 27 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

You've yet to address the first reason for your block, and that is your username. I saw that you requested a name change, but it wasn't usable. As stated in the recent unblock request, your username MUST NOT be promotional in nature. As for the article in question, it meets our general notability guidelines.
