Formation is French for "training", hence the confusion: somebody whose first language is French, might not notice that. Mathsci (talk) 20:28, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
Welcome to the one hundred and sixty ninth WikiProject Yorkshire monthly newsletter.
Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters, WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 17,926 last month to 17,979 on 29 April 2022). In the area of GAs WP:YORKS at 205 is ahead of WP:GM who have 92. WP:YORKS also has the lead in FAs at 88 while WP:GM has 69 out of a total number of 4,733 articles.
Currently we have seventy Yorkshire featured articles:
The number has been kept deliberately low to give us a fighting chance of improving them to at least GA status, also so we can concentrate our efforts on these first.
WikiProject Yorkshire Collaboration of the Month Project
The May 2022 articles selected below are an editor choice as there were no nominations on the project talk page.
The project is subscribed to a clean-up listing which lists articles tagged with various clean-up tags that need attention. The listing is refreshed by a bot on a regular basis.
Monitoring is essential Use the watchlist to keep an eye on changes to the project's articles so that vandalism and spamming can be removed as quickly as possible.
Moves Please be careful when performing articles moves and ensure that you also move all the talk sub-pages and update any image fair use rational. Otherwise the archives, to-do lists, assessment comments and GA reviews get lost and the image may be deleted as it has an incorrect FUR. You will also have to check that the Commons link is set correctly.

Reverting edit.
Latest comment: 2 years ago2 comments2 people in discussion
Dear Disillusioned,
I don't mind at all that you reverted my edit. I'm just used to it being called "drunk-driving" and have never heard of it being called "drink-driving" before. Furthermore, I'm still relatively new to being an editor on Wikipedia, and in all honesty, it's quite confusing and disorienting to navigate, so thank you very much for linking some more articles for me to read through to improve my future edits. Once again, thank you very much for correcting me and I'll be sure to read through the articles you linked.
Hi Mae, I am sorry it's taken me soooo long to reply. I'm including a ping to Maerenneburg because I am not quite sure how this new(ish) Reply feature works. Thank you so much for the lovely message; I'm glad I helped a little; yes this place is a confusing nightmare at first ... but don't worry, it gets much easier after the first decade or two! Good luck with your future editing, and all good wishes DBaK (talk) 22:17, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

after Easter and resilience, now dance and singing, peace doves and icecream - Freiheit! to listen to, including closeup of the trumpets announcing it. (The livestream has it all, safety announcement, speeches, intermission ... but there's a good legend to find the symphony movement.) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:25, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
another Ukraine day today: Maks Levin DYK, expanding Kyiv Symphony Orchestra (have tickets), and creating Anthony Robin Schneider, the bass who could be heard opening the singing in Beethoven's Ninth twice on 10 March 2022, live in Frankfurt, Germany, and recorded in Auckland, New Zealand, singing "Freiheit!" (freedom) instead of "Freude" (joy), in a tradition started after the Fall of the Wall. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:55, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt thank you so much for all this lovely stuff! I don't know what I would do without your updates. And that is a fantastic concert picture, thank you. Cheers DBaK (talk) 22:32, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
Ode to Joy

"If it did not happen, it cannot be cited", but in the case of Ode to Joy and the rejection by the Peace Movement at large, it is a case of significant and clear lack of interest or allegiance.WhiskyOrVodka (talk) 05:26, 18 May 2022 (UTC)
Hi WhiskyOrVodka and thank you for the message. I honestly think that this would be much better discussed at the article's Talk page, here: Talk:Ode to Joy. That way you will potentially get both more scrutiny of the idea and more help implementing it, whereas if we discuss it right here, on my Talk page, we will probably not get very far since we both already know what the other one thinks! I haven't changed my view and I don't think you have, so it needs more eyes on it. Thanks, best wishes, and happy editing! DBaK (talk) 07:33, 18 May 2022 (UTC)
Band in a Box revisit
Latest comment: 2 years ago4 comments2 people in discussion
You wrote me a nice note about Band In A Box a while back. The article was recently drastically edited by an unregistered user whom I believe has removed good parts of it including sound files, believing the article was too promotional was probably written by a PR agent of the company, which is untrue. Would you mind taking a look? Best, Eagledj (talk) 01:06, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
Note: moved from my User page. DBaK (talk) 22:09, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
Hi Eagledj – I'm very sorry I failed to reply to this till now. You had accidentally left it on my User page, which I don't look at that often because it is (I am) so boring! But here I am now, and here we are ...
I don't follow BIAB that closely (apart from rather loving it and swearing at it when I can't figure out how to use it properly!) but I will try to have a look at this situation. Or maybe it is OK now? I will try to pop in and have a look, anyway. Please don't hold your breath against my (ahem) heroic intervention, though – Real Life™ has a horrible way of interfering with my ever-so-important "work" here! Cheers DBaK (talk) 22:29, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

May songs
Latest comment: 2 years ago9 comments3 people in discussion
related: Ukrainian peace music is "on" today, with the conductor! - Pentecost (on last Sunday and Monday in Germany) brought a rich harvest of great music in two church services (one with me singing in choir) and two concerts with my brother in the orchestra, - four pictures I took besides the symphonic one. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:16, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for improving articles in June! My song collection is especially rich, look, and the hall where I first heard DFD, Pierre Boulez and Murray Perahia. Do you find the baby deer in the meadow (last row)? --

Hi - John Hooker was my stepfather and was organist and caretaker of Union Chapel from 1973 to 2002 - so that is the correct spelling of his name, rather than John 'Rooker'. I've therefore edited it in the Wiki page. Hope OK -
Kind regards. 90.192.251.84 (talk) 15:37, 14 June 2022 (UTC)

Hi DBaK, thanks for the message. I don’t pick stuff up myself, but a friendly stalker pings me a note when something of interest is left. What’s up? What error have you seen in one of ‘my’ articles?! If you reply here, I’ll pop back shortly to read. Cheers - SC, editing from 2A00:23C7:2B86:9801:E160:3432:925D:975C (talk) 20:07, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
Absolutely not an error – just a rather mundane usage query! I'm halfway through communicating with you elsewhere, thank you, and will (or won't) be back here as required. Cheers DBaK (talk) 12:06, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

DB&A: A follow-up question about Copland, if you don't mind. I've heard different reports about how "difficult" Copland is to play. For trumpet, what would you say? I guess it depends what level you are at too ... maybe you are with Boston Symphony, in which case no doubt his stuff isn't too hard? Maybe for non-pro players it is more of a challenge. My viola nephew finds his strings a challenge sometimes. Thanks for your thoughts ... Friothaire (talk) 14:46, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
Oh, what an interesting question! For trumpet I would say moderately challenging but nothing unreasonable. I think there's little or nothing to worry a pro player. I honestly don't know about his string writing but his brass stuff seems quite idiomatic and well-researched – that is, it works well, is hard enough to make you feel you earned your money, but doesn't make foolish demands. The Fanfare is a case in point: it is challenging to make sure it is beautiful, together, in tune etc but there's nothing to keep a pro player awake at night and anyway they have all played it 673 times! Hope this helps, cheers DBaK (talk) 20:37, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
Vivaldi
Latest comment: 2 years ago7 comments2 people in discussion
Finally: Vivaldi. I didn't find anything scientific but at least a decent program note. Please check if you could anything from there, such as what you see in the score. That can be used. What do you think of the new external link? - I made a DYK nomination, because I had to. A good ref for that it's Vivaldi's only trumpet concerto would be nice. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:05, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
(sorry about the restructuring, hope you don't mind) ... Hi Gerda Arendt – I have only a rather weak ref for it being the only trumpet concerto – please see the ITG section on the Talk page. I will try and look at other stuff. Is it being his only tpt concerto so obvious that it is one of those The Sky Is Blue things??
The programme note is not bad – I rather like it! – but it is less academic than I had hoped. I don't mean to sound rude but I am not a fan of the cutesy language like empty the plumbing. I will expound on this if you like but the short version is that the slow movement usually needs to contrast, and natural trumpets are unsuitable in various ways and are often (but not always) omitted. We don't do a lot in the slow movement of Brandenburg 2 either! Getting water out of it is trivial and routine and commenting on it doesn't add anything. Again I will continue to look for better refs.
The new EL to the Thai university PDF is not up to scratch and, with all due respect, should be omitted. I also think it violates the programme note's copyright or something very close to it.
Sorry, I feel like I am sounding grumpy, negative and tactless! None of that is intended ... I am a bit up against my commitments and more than a bit knackered (see username) and I'm just trying to say helpful stuff without apologizing every 10 seconds. I really, really wish I could just produce some brilliant sources for this ... they must exist! Cheers DBaK (talk) 12:59, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
Thanks! So will you mind if I do get round to some editing or would you prefer I leave it to you? I’m honestly easy either way. DBaK (talk) 13:31, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

My other source, Fallows' Mandell Creighton and the English Church, OUP, 1964, capitalizes von throughout, e.g. even Louise Von Glenn daughter of Robert Von Glenn ... I don't want to go that far, considering there is a WP article on her. Also, I'm not sure if the modern radar about these things had existed in 1964 when Fallows wrote his book. But thanks for setting the surname right at beginning of the sentence in MC. Fowler&fowler«Talk»00:44, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
