Welcome -- Edit summaries

edit

Hi Ditdaddy. Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your edit to Eid ul-Fitr -- your minor wording change yielded a strong improvement to the article. You are one step away from being a prefect new editor, and that is including summaries with your edits. Unfortunately many experienced editors also leave the summary field empty, but even a terse summary helps immensely when trying to work through an article's history to locate a particular change or the source of a vandalism. You did explain your edit well on the article's talk page, which is a good thing to do with controversial or confusing edits, but that doesn't obviate the the need for the summary as only the summary is directly visible in from the article's history page. Also, for less controversial edits (like this one), a summary can take the place of the talk page note (although playing it safe with a talk page note as well is fine). Thanks again, and I hope that you keep on contributing to and improving Wikipedia. Help:Edit summary discussed summaries more, and I suppose that I hardly need to point you to the essay WP:Be bold as you rightly were bold and went ahead and made that edit. -- ToE 14:00, 17 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
