Gain consensus at WP:LDSMOS (or more specifically, at its talkpage) before making large-scale changes like that. Acroterion (talk) 00:42, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

editPlease do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use the sandbox for that. "LDS Church" and "Mormons" remain common usage. As has been noted, do not change this unless you can gain consensus for this change. —C.Fred (talk) 00:57, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
- Mr. Fred, we apologize for replying nearly six months later. We’ve taken it within ourselves to explain to you why these terms shouldn't be common usage anymore. In the talk from the 2018 October General Conference titled ”the Correct Name of the Church, ” it’s stated there by the president (Russell M. Nelson) that the terms ”LDS Church” and ”Mormon” are retired. ”... Most of the world calls the Church and its members by the wrong names.” As stated by the president, they give an erroneous assumption that they worship Mormon, which isn’t valid, as they worship Jesus Christ. By using this term, many Christians believe that the Latter-day Saints aren't Christian, but that they worship Mormon. Also, in the early years of the Church, the term ”Mormon” was a derogatory term used by those who were solemnly against the Church; understandably, if you wish to disregard this evidence and currently refute our argument, as many of the editors of Wikipedia have done so, and if you feel so inclined to revert the edit, we’ll respect such opinions. - As noted at WP:LDSMOS, among other places, the consensus is to retain the "LDS Church" as a short form, because it makes clear what church is being referred to, especially when just calling it "the church" would be ambiguous. "Mormon" is used only in direct quotations—or in the article about the church, to provide the context for readers that this is the group that was referred to as Mormons. —C.Fred (talk) 18:01, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
