Hi Dodger67

Could you tell me which parts specifically you feel are written like an advert? I'm very happy to work on it, but without knowing which parts you have an issue with it won't be possible.

Thanks John Cummings (talk) 09:30, 17 July 2021 (UTC)

John Cummings, The whole article has an advertorial tone, but one thing that really sticks out is when you use the term brand to refer to a company. A brand is merely a name or symbol, it doesn't do anything. There is also quite a bit of redundant content about the plant and its cultivation, we already have an article that covers it. Hope this helps. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 14:43, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Dodger67 I used the word brand because I'm unable to work out if it is a separate company or part of a another company and its just the trading name. I'll do some more research and change when I'm able. I included the cultivation and production process in the article as far as I can tell there are several cultivation methods and this is specfic to this fabric, I'll see what I can copy over. I guess part of the issue is that the fabric is exclusive to a single company, instead of something like Denim whos article has similar structure and content but doesn't 'feel' 'as advertisingy' because its widely manfactured. John Cummings (talk) 15:03, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
John Cummings, I just took another look at the article, it's turned out quite nice, well done! So what's next? If textiles are a particular interest you should have look around WP:WikiProject Textile Arts. Perhaps you could even initiate the process there to develop a suitable infobox for textiles, like you enquired about at some helpdesk. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:13, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Miss Grand

Hi, your recent speedy deletion of Miss Grand as WP:CSD#4 seems to be off the mark. You cited the 2017 Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Miss Grand International (3rd nomination) in your deletion rationale, but that appears to be different from Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Miss Grand, which was closed as no consensus just two weeks ago. This specific title should probably be restored. plicit 13:21, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

Excuse Me?

Your deletion of Miss Grand was entirely inappropriate, and in no way within policy. The page has never been deleted at AfD, bore no resemblance whatsoever to any deleted version of another page, and has for heaven's sake previously been subjected to the same G4 abuse which was overturned at DRV, which you surely would have noticed, had you bothered to check the page logs before unilaterally hitting delete (without providing due notification to the page creator). Please restore the page. --Paul_012 (talk) 14:29, 30 July 2021 (UTC), updated 20:34, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

Explicit & Paul_012 I have restored the article. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 21:29, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

Ranbush, I appreciate that, it's just not done on Wikipedia. Try a blog or social media site. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 17:01, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

Hello Rodger - I'm curious why this article today is different from what I posted about Jesse Pittman; "Arthur Sullivan (1896–1937) was an Australian recipient of the Victoria Cross. Born in South Australia, Sullivan enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force during World War I. Sent to the United Kingdom, he completed training after the Armistice came into effect ..."   For fixing that "page-move"
I didn't even know it had happened - thanks for catching that. Shearonink (talk) 15:38, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
Also, keeping in mind that my edit that precipitated their vandalism happened ages ago and that I do a fair amount of vandalism reversion/patrolling, would it be possible for my user & user-talk to be move-protected? When something like this happens once, makes me think it will happen again, especially if this editor comes back and repeats their "fun"... Cheers, Shearonink (talk) 15:42, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021

New Page Review queue September 2021

Hello Dodger67,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

Wikipedia:WikiProject Disability/Style advice

Hello, Dodger67,

When you are correcting a bad move like this, could you leave a redirect? The Wikipedia bots are very effective at their job and when this page was moved to a different title, they changed all of the redirects to this page to point to the new location. If you leave a redirect when reversing a bad move, the bots should correct the redirects and they should be fixed. Without a redirect from the bad page title to the correct page title, the pages show up as broken redirects. This page is updated every six hours and if an admin or editor doesn't see and fix the broken redirects, the bot will delete them. After the redirects are corrected, the redirect from the bad title to the correct title can be deleted.

I don't think this little bot quirk is widely known among admins and page movers because it is very common to not leave a redirect when correcting a bad page move. Thank you! Liz Read! Talk! 23:35, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

Liz, good to know, thanks. Were you able to fix it or do you need me to do something? Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 06:11, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Maybe you can take a look at these two accounts...

I tried to look up where I should report this but got lost in the Wikipedia maze so am asking for some help here...

  • Corey1216
  • Cyeyeung1215
  • Similar edits, accounts seem to be related. From listening to the posted YouTube channel the editor seems to be a somewhat young child.

I just couldn't figure out where to post my concerns or how to go about it. Hope you can look in to the situation. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 16:41, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Shearonink, I'm not sure what you're expecting of me? You found some vandalism and fixed it. Both edits are (so far) the only edits by the two accounts, so that seems to be the end of the matter. If you notice either vandal continuing beyond a final warning you can report it to WP:AIV. -- Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 18:08, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
They both seem to be one and the same, at the very least meatpuppet accounts if not socks, that's all. But yeah "they" are on my radar at this point... Shearonink (talk) 18:35, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Draft Page about Wendy Porch

Hi, I saw your decision about the page and the assessment that the linked articles had only passing mentions of Wendy Porch. While I recognise that to be true for some of them, it's not the case for all of them. Honestly, I gave up adding links to news stories about her because there are so many and once I got to double digits I concluded there was enough, but I invite you to check them all, in many she is the main focus of the article. And if you would like and would reconsider, I can delete the ones with passing mention only, spend more time finding ones where she is clearly the focus of the article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by CT55555 (talkcontribs) 04:51, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi CT55555 If you could point out the best 3 or 4 sources that are independent and contain at least a paragraph or two about Porch, that should make the next review easier. Just leave a note at the top of the page for the next reviewer. It probably won't be me, as a variety of opinions provides a fairer assessment of a draft. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 06:16, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – January 2022

News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2021).

  Guideline and policy news

  • Following consensus at the 2021 RfA review, the autopatrolled user right has been removed from the administrators user group; admins can grant themselves the autopatrolled permission if they wish to remain autopatrolled.

  Arbitration

  Miscellaneous

  • The functionaries email list (functionaries-en lists.wikimedia.org) will no longer accept incoming emails apart from those sent by list members and WMF staff. Private concerns, apart from those requiring oversight, should be directly sent to the Arbitration Committee.

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

If you write a journalist behind their name, then there will be no need to make their second page. Because there is a musician by this name.

Josephine Sinyo

Hiya thanks for making Draft:Josephine Sinyo. I've cleaned it up and think it's ready to be mainspaced again, can you take a look and see what you think? Mujinga (talk) 13:40, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

100,000 edits

Congrats on reaching the nice round figure of 100,000 edits! Greenman (talk) 12:17, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

@Greenman Thanks, I'm quite chuffed. Just a pity that edit #100,000 was a minor fix instead of some profound commentary or vital content... Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 14:32, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

Five years!

Small fixes are also important. I recently had my 2000th DYK nom (appearing), and it was a hook I didn't like, and the image not taken. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:03, 29 January 2022 (UTC)

  Guideline and policy news

  Technical news

  • The user group oversight will be renamed suppress in around 3 weeks. This will not affect the name shown to users and is simply a change in the technical name of the user group. The change is being made for technical reasons. You can comment in Phabricator if you have objections.
  • The Reply Tool feature, which is a part of Discussion Tools, will be opt-out for everyone logged in or logged out starting 7 February 2022. Editors wishing to comment on this can do so in the relevant Village Pump discussion.

WP:AFC Helper News

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. How do I get a Wikipedian ID?

If I go around collecting information with out any proof of being a Wikipedian won't people will take me for a spy or something. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Un'stopableZed (talkcontribs) 14:07, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
