Well, what can I say? I'm very impressed with the article. Good work! I particularly like the first table in the article and I will incorporate it into the existing articles at some point. However, I think we need to standardise the results tables between this article and the ones that I have created, as they are very different! My immediate suggestion would be to keep the "Final Point Standings" table virually unchanged, but I think that the "Complete Overview" table could do with some tweaking. I'll do some more thinking about this.
Just out of interest, what source(s) are you using? I have used old AUTOCOURSE annuals to make the 1995-2004 season articles, but you seem to have more information than I do.--Diniz 17:48, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Edit summaries
Please ensure that you always apply an edit summary to any changes that you make to pages other than your own userspace, even if you deem the edit to be minor. This is important because it assists admins and other editors to assess and monitor changes without always having to check the diffs. Thank you. Adrian M. H. 17:11, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your corrections to the scoring system. It's very difficult to keep track of all the changes made by the FIS during the first two decades of the World Cup. Seattle Skier 08:43, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
Hi, I have some questions about the discipline World Cup in combined. It was first awarded in 1976, and then again from 1980 until when? I have read (in "Ski Racing" magazine) that they stopped officially awarding that Cup in the late 1980s, but the article did not give the specific year. Was 1986 the last year it was officially awarded? Or later? Thanks. Seattle Skier 00:01, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Re:Andy Soucek
Yes, his (Spanish!) website says his nationality is Austrian. Unfortunately, most other sources assume he is Spanish, so I have changed the infobox back to Austrian and added an invisible note in order to prevent people from changing it back to Spanish.
I have always assumed he is Spanish, but now that I come to think of it, I remember reading an Autosport article a while back that explained his nationality more fully. I'll try to find it and mention it in the article. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!--Diniz 20:58, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Sailing at the Olympic articles
Hi Doma-w, when you add the names of the boats to these articles, can you please do it in a way that does not remove the standard templates for rendering flags and wikilinks? Please see what I did to Sailing at the 1912 Summer Olympics to repair your changes there. Thanks, Andrwsc 18:02, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
Individual Olympic Games pages
Hi there - just a comment; I notice you've been creating lots of individual articles about the 1912 Olympic Games matches. Unfortunately, consensus is that this level of detail isn't encyclopedic on Wikipedia, especially as the important information is contained in the main page. If someone decides to nominate those pages for deletion at WP:AFD, sadly the result is going to be that they are deleted. I thought I'd mention this now before you wasted any more hard work on further articles. Note, though, that individual articles on important games (such as Olympic finals, FA Cup Finals, UEFA tournament finals etc) are fine. Hope this helps, EliminatorJR Talk 17:42, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
Note about birth/death dates...
Hey, it's great to see all these articles you're making for Olympic athletes. One note: read the manual of style section on dates to see the preferred way to write birth/death dates, which doesn't include the words born and died. Keep up the good work! Pinball22 20:12, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Football at the 1912 Summer Olympics
Hello - User:Poulsen and User:Poulsen
Authors of pages Football at the 1912 Summer Olympics Early you have written lists of commands(teams), I have found additions under lists of reserve players. The data are taken from official sources, it is necessary to read them simply closely(attentively), there are much more information than is given at you. Certainly and teams of England and Finland and in a number of others there were spare players. Names and surnames of players are established, search of dates of birthes and clubs is now conducted. User:Doma-w, I would like to enter with you correspondences, I have pair questions on structures of commands(teams). In exchange I shall inform to you shall send additional lists and I shall inform a place whence it have taken. Though with some players will come to understand, there there are some problems Can write the letter e-mail li77n@hotmail.com Gavrilov Sergey

- I think you are right about the medal table; I did what felt most (chrono)logical at the time, but putting them up top is fine too. The very best thing, would be an infobox detailing year, sport, medalists, and so on (kinda like a hybrid of the {{Infobox sports league}} and {{Infobox Olympic games}}) so all this info could be presented right at the top. About the date format, I disagree that it makes it more confusing. At lower resolutions, the full month name can cause a lineshift, which can be confusing, having the year first, as opposed to months, makes it easier to compare dates, and I personally find it more stylish to have the dates streamlined and not of varying size and shape. Of course, it might be confusing with month/date, but with the year first, it seems the most logical that the month will follow, and if anybody are in doubt, varifying the exact date is just a click on the link away ;) Poulsen 13:19, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- Seperate articles for main tournament and consolation tournament games seems the best way to go. I don't know anything about the consolation tournament - but as they were indeed played they are worth the article, I think! Keep up the good work :) Poulsen 08:56, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Well, you are right, this player has not played a single match in this Olympic tournament. But he has played 20 full international games for Sweden! The only problem is, that I am working on Olympic games and all the information I have is added - hopping there will be same Swedish football fans in our big wikipedia family who will expand this player from the football side. (Like others have done this before to e.g. the Danish players from this tournament) So I have added all relevant categories. Please understand, that I can not do all alone and I also do not know everything. And please don't worry, that this is a football player, this is a chance. I have done the same for e.g. water polo players or rowers. Form time to time Olympians are also m. Mercifully other users like to help from this point of view. Thank you and :) Doma-w 23:20, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
- I accept you believe in your statement, but my view is that this is not notable. If this Olympian is "military peronal, politicans, royals or war victims" than surely you should include this when creating the article. Listing every Olympian from every country in every year is pointless. In my view. Let's see what others think :) Raerth 23:40, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
Arthur Carnell
My sources report the day of birth March 21 for the sport shooter Arthur Carnell. Is it a typo or do we have two different dates? Thank you for the good teamwork! :) Doma-w 04:02, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yes you are right. My mistake. Gh 14:04, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
databaseolympics shows Jack London's date of birth as January 31, but I have seen it in other places as January 13. British Olympic Association has it as January 13 and I think it is correct.
Wudarski has Hilding Ekman's full name as Hilding Viktor Ekman. I don't have any other source for athlete's full names. Gh 17:42, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Koreans
Hi,
I agree that they should be consistent, and I think you are right that the standard form for Olympians is Xxx Yyy-Zzz. (this is a little different from our standard practice of Xxx Yyy-zzz). My concern in the case of Kim Dong-Moon was that this was a cut-and-paste move, which destroys the page history (this is a Bad Thing). What I will do now is delete the redirect at Kim Dong-Moon so that you can move the page back if you see fit. Cheers, -- Visviva 03:08, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Please avoid doing cut and paste moves... Generally pages should be moved only by using the "move" tab. See Help:Moving a page#Wikipedia-specific help, specifically the part which says "Do not move or rename a page by copying/pasting its content, because doing so destroys the edit history." ... anyway, thanks for your work! Cheers, -- Visviva 02:53, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, I have seen that you haved moved some article of Korean badminton players from Xxx Yyy-zzz to Xxx Yyy-Zzz, like Kim Dong-moon to Kim Dong-Moon. What criterion have you used? I actually don't know which is the correct way, but I know some Asian people who says is Xxx Yyy-zzz. There is also this convention: Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Korean) #Given name. Is there any new convention I don't know? Thank you for your atention. MontanNito 18:44, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
Harold Barron
Hi! You have added in November 2006 :-) the date of deaths to Harold Barron. My source reports his date of deaths with March 31, 1962. More than 16 years earlier. Is it possibe for you to check this again? Thanks and :) Doma-w 21:11, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- My source says that Harold Earl Barron was born on August 29, 1894 in Pennsylvania and died on October 5, 1978 in San Francisco, California. It can be mistake though.
- Also my source says that Frederick Goodfellow died on November 22, 1960, not in 1931 as you say in the article. I hesitated to edit, because maybe you know better. Gh 13:27, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
- I have some data about birth and death places of various athletes, but the information is scattered around in many places (in various files in my computer, in some pieces of paper or in a book I have, etc.), so that info might be hard to find. I guess you are using Kemper/Mallon Golden Book of Olympic Games as your source(sadly I don't have this book or any other Mallon books) and I think that their data is as accurate as it could possibly be. So if they say that Barron died 16 years earlier, I probably would believe them. Other info I have about Barron: Studied in Pennsylvania State University[2], won AAU championships in 120 yards hurdles in 1917 (15.0) and 1920 (15.2), and was third in 1919 and won the NCAA championships in 120 yards hurdles 1922 (15.4). (that was what I could find with a quick search through my files. Probably could dig up some more info if needed.)
- Also my source says (obituary in some Australian newspaper, but I couldn't find it right now to tell which one) that William Goodsir-Cullen died on July 15, 1994 not in 1960. Indian hockey federation gives it as 1998[3]. Here are two other articles about him written by Indian Hockey Federatiom [4], [5] (scroll down a bit).
- Note that I'm not professional Olympic historian, just that collecting olympic statistics and info about olympic athletes (especially about medallists) has been my hobby for a past 20+ years, so I don't pretend to have a definitive answers.
I'm from Estonia. And yes, Wikipedia is a great place. I have tried to contribute to it as much as I can (especially about Olympics), but it is not very much. Haven't had time to do much lately.
As of Harold Barron, I think this book will give definitive answer. I haven't seen any books of this series, but I have heard it contains biografical data of every competitor. And a pity that this series ended with this book. And sadly it is too expensive for me, at least for right now. Gh 18:14, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
"British/Irish" athletes
Martin, you did an edit to Patrick Leahy (athlete) to say that he was a "British/Irish" athlete. This is not correct. Irish athletics in 1900 was organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association and the Irish Amateur Athletics Association, entirely separately from British athletics. Although Irish athletes took part in British competitions, and occasionally competed in the Olympics for Great Britain and Ireland (but see Peter O'Connor#1906 Olympic Games for how this was not always above board), they were not considered to be British. Scolaire 14:44, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi Martin. Thank you for your prompt reply. Yes, I would very much favour the creation of a special category called: "Olympic medalists for Great Britain and Ireland". If you follow through the links you gave me, to 1900 Summer Olympics#Participating nations and 1900 Summer Olympics medal count, you are actually directed to Great Britain and Ireland at the 1900 Summer Olympics. The same is true for every Games from 1896 to 1924. The problem here is that there is only a single template for two distinct nations: Great Britain and Ireland and Great Britain and Northern Ireland. I think not only the categories, but Template:Infobox Olympics Great Britain and the flag template also need to be changed (see Template:Infobox Olympics Germany and Template:Infobox Olympics Russia). Unfortunately, my skills in WP do not extend to templates; they leave me addled!
I have re-edited the opening of Patrick Leahy (athlete) in line with what you said.
Scolaire 08:46, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
I think that the idea of an article and categories for Irish pre-1924 Olympic competitors is excellent! This was a golden age of Irish athletics, which is little remarked on because of the Great Britain classification. I would be very interested in collaborating on such a project. I am working on something else at the moment so there may be some delay before I come to it, but come to it I certainly will.
I have found that the template is not a problem after all. It is possible to add a pipe and "name=Great Britain and Ireland" so that the correct name is displayed. I have done this for 1900, 1904 and 1908. Scolaire 19:39, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Charles Greene
Hi! A very long time ago you started this article: Charles Greene (athlete) with the year of birth 1944. My sources report 1945.
Maybe you will also have a look at this very interesting case: Evelyn Furtsch. There is only one source which reports her dob with 1914, but this is an interview with her...
Also interesting: Mildred Fizzell. Look about the spelling and see what is written here [6]. Now it looks like, that there is no relationship to Mary Frizzel. I have written a message to this user, but it is unlikly that he will answer. The www.olympic.ca spells both names Frizzell and reports there dob with January 27, 1913 (for Mary) and January 27, 1911 (for Mildred) and shows both with the same birth place.
The webmaster of www.olympic-medallists.com answered, he will check the date for William Goodsir-Cullen. :) Doma-w 13:52, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- I probably took Charles Greene's birth year from US Track & Field Hall of Fame article[7], which says 1944, but databaseOlympics and other sources I have say 1945. I think 1945 is correct.
- I tracked down Evelyn Furtsch in Californian Birth index and it is April 17, 1914. I took a snapshot and put it up to my webspace[8]
- As of Mary and Mildred Frizzell, I know only that one of my Olympic book says, they are sisters and probably their last name was spelled with two l's.Gh 16:17, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
I can confirm that Mildred Fizzell and Mary Frizell were in no way related. Please feel free to ask me any more questions about my grandmother. "Alisontheice"

William Goodsir-Cullen
I don't know, if you have gotten an answer back from olympic-medallists.com webmaster about William Goodsir-Cullen, but I have found the newspaper obituary, which I mentioned earlier. It states that W. Goodsir-Cullen died on June 15, 1994 in Wyoming, New South Wales. See here. Gh 08:30, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

I checked and all the boxers in the category are olympic competitors. So instead of writng categories:Azeri boxers and olympic competitors it is better to write just olympic competitors and the azeri boxers to be a subcategory. No need to write it for every boxer. --KRBN 21:46, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Names
May I ask you, what do you think about the corrections (deletions) the user Lokyz has done on this pages?
Stasys Stonkus, Justinas Lagunavičius and Stepas Butautas.
For me the cyrillic transcribtion of all the sportsmen from the Soviet Union are importent. Doma-w 21:13, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- I think what Lokyz has done is definately right. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania has never used cyrillic and we have never used a father's name as a part of a name. This only a russian (and russian only) custom. Armenia (uses armenian alphabet), Azerbaijan (latin alphabet), Georgia (Georgian alphabet) and Moldova (Latin alphabet) doesn't use cyrillic either. The rest of the former soviet republics does, I think, but they don't use father's name in their name (except maybe Ukraina and Belarussia, but I'm not very sure about that). Gh 06:09, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
- I actually don't know what was in their passport. My Estonian SSR passport which I had 20 years ago the blanket was in dual language (russian/estonian), but filled in only in Estonian language. My birth certificate issued by Estonian SSR, which I still have and use, the blanket is also dual language but filled in with latin alphabet and in Estonian language (I know this because my birthplace is written differently in russian(even transliterated) and estonian language). My passport didn't have father's name if I remember correctly. In my birth certificate my mother's and father's name are present of course, but not as a part of my name and not in a form **-vitch. But in Soviet Union, the normal passport was only in internal use, you couldn't travel abroad with it. You had to request "travelling passport" or "international passport" and get a clearance from KGB to travel to foreign countries. I haven't seen those, as I couldn't passed the KGB clearance (My father and grandfather were so-called "enemy of state" in Soviet Union, so I classified as "potentially dangerous people" or something such). I also found this article about passports (scroll down to a entry about Russia).
- Personally I would feel insulted if somebody would call me in a form of name + *-vitch. Russians living in Estonia doesn't use this form when speaking with estonians, but use when they speak between themselves (eg. when the person is russian).Gh 14:17, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
Most of the paperwork in Soviet Olympic commitee were done definately in cyrillic. And the names sent to International Olympic Committee were probably transliterated from cyrillic, if not even sent in cyrillic. In Soviet Union, we didn't had nations, we were just one happy soviet people, or as we ironically called us -- "homo sovieticus." Gh 11:01, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know should we write those names in cyrillic or not, but I wouldn't write those names in cyrillic. I think somebody else has to make this desicion, not me. I haven't removed any of the cyrillic names, although I don't approve them. This is just my personal opinion. Gh 19:20, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
Hey Doma, Can you please tell me where you find the information about him being part of the Olympic squad in 1912? Thanks, Knurftendans 03:45, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks I will have a look at it tonight. Knurftendans 15:57, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Albert Nasse
I have found "your" rowers! :) I have one question: You gave Albert Nasse the date of birth with July 7, but my sources say July 2... Can you please check it?
For your information: the webmaster of www.olympic-medallists.com did not answer any more, but he now added the date of birth for William Goodsir-Cullen. The date of death is unchanged... Doma-w 23:17, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
- Yes you are right about Albert Nasse, my mistake.
- As about William Goodsir-Cullen, I would like to put the death date as June 15, 1994, which I found in a newspaper obituary. I think this is correct death date. Gh 14:28, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- I don't have any info about Carlos Deltour and Antoine Védrenne, except that they won European Championships in coxed pair in 1899, 1900 and 1904.
- The William Goodsir-Cullen page looks ok, you can send this information to www.olympic-medallists.com webmaster, so he could correct their information. Thanks. Gh 16:38, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
I have uploaded the picture you wanted. Please have a look at it and please edit the picture page with correct data, if I'm wrong (my German isn't very good). I'm specially conserned about the licence tag. If you have some other pictures to upload, please tell me and I will gladly upload them. But please tell me under which licence should they go.
As of Thomas Loudon, my source says January 8, but this source isn't online any more. And I know it had some mistakes in it, so may-be your source is right. Gh 14:57, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
- I have added footnote about Thomas Loudon's death.
- Also I have a bit different info about some of the boxers you have recently edited.
- Social Security death index says, that Frederick Boylstein was born on March 15, 1902 [12]
- Social Security death index and Florida death index say, that Raymond Fee was born on January 12, 1903 [13], [14], [15]
- Social Security deat index says, that Louis Salica was born on November 16, 1912. This might not be the right Louis Salica, but I haven't found another one in ancestry.com ar in any other sources I have. At least he seemed to be lived in Brooklyn, New York. [16] Gh 17:22, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hungarian Olympic Commitee gives the date of birth of Mária Berzsenyi as October 31, 1946 [17]
- I see, that you have linked the pictures that I put up to my personal webspace to the articles. I don't think it's a good idea, as I might delete them at any time. I'll see, if I can find a more permanent link about them. The social security death index is online for free, but I think that Florida Death index isn't. Gh 19:22, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
The Florida death index isn't available online without fee, but Social Security Death index is. You can put those liks instead of the images: Louis Salica, Raymond Fee, Frederick Boylstein.
I have quite a lot of this type of images downloaded, so if you need something, ask me and I'll see if I can help. Gh 15:28, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi! When creating an article, it is best to provide all the sources. For instance, at Éva Angyal, it would be good if the source for how many goals she scored etc is added. I'm sure the source is some statistics page. Thanks, Punkmorten 11:04, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. CobaltBlueTony 16:51, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Rugby players
John O'Neil (rugby player) - California Death index has March 25 [18]
John Muldoon - I know that some sources give his name as William, or even gives them both as a two persons. Wudarski[19] (and so also Bill Mallon, as Wudarski's files base on him), which is my main source for results and athletes full names, lists only John Muldoon. California Death index has John Muldoon with those dates [20], but also has William Scully Muldoon [21]. I think they were brothers, as the mother's maiden name and father's name are same.
Caesar Mannelli - I know that all sources give his name with one n, but I haven't found any Caesar Manelli. Instead I found Caesar Mannelli in US Censuses [22], [23] and California Death index [24]. He seems to be born in Italy and died in Contra Costa County. His father was an American-Italian painer Siro Mannelli [25] (btw they have the wrong birth date as california Death index gives it 1868[26]. University of San Fransisco has a scholarship named after him [27]. Maybe they know something more about him.
Richard Hyland - You are right abouth his birth date. Although databaseolympics has July 6, all the other sources I have give this as July 26, including the California Death index [28]. I don't have any other sources, but Wudarski for the athletes full names, and he gives Richard Frank Hyland and California death index seems to agree with him. Gh 07:31, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- Yes you are probably right about Caesar Mannelli, that his death date is May 3. Shame that the California death index gives such a low quality images. But you can get better ones, if you pay them. Gh 12:15, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Pyotr Sokolov : After the Olympics?
The information about what Pyotr Sokolov did after playing football is fascinating - could you tell me the source? The quoted website seems to be in Russian and only about the football scores. Thanks Harrywferguson 22:37, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
Re: Korean name infobox
I'm not entitrely sure what you mean, but just to clarify: this infobox was recently renamed (previously it was called Template:Koreanname), and all demonBot has done is update articles so that they use the new name rather than the old one.
If you are refering to edits I recently made to a number of articles you created, all I've really done there is adjust the width and colour of the infobox. This is just so that it matches the other infobox it is used with in the article. It's up to you if you want to do this yourself in future, it's not essential or anything. :)
I hope that answered your question! PC78 02:19, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
- Again, I'm not sure what you mean. If you're suggesting that each article have it's own unique nametable, then I don't see how that would be an improvement, or make things easier. Regards. PC78 10:49, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
- Well, it's all the same infobox, regardless of how the width and colour are used. You're not obliged to use these features of course, but that's generally how the infobox is meant to be used (see Seoraksan, Heaven Lake or Bae Doona for other examples of this). There are no other infoboxes, if that's what you're asking. PC78 12:37, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Li Jie
Hello! Are you sure that Li Jie the rifle shooter and Li Jie the running target shooter are the same person? There are two different ISSF NEWS profiles: rifle shooter born 1979 and running target shooter born 1981. Neither of them includes the sixth place from the Athens 10RT competition, though, so I'm not really sure what to make of this. -- Jao 09:49, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
William Seagrove
Date of death of June 5, 1988 is incorrect; in April 1981, Rex Hackett, who succeeded William Seagrove as headmaster of Normansal school, told me that he had died the year before, and that the school, which he had owned, was to be closed and sold in order to pay death duties (this did indeed happen in the summer of 1981). Handball players
Hi. I was just clicking through Special:Random and came across Edy Schmid. I'm not sure the player deserves his own article, as there's very little information about him, and he was only notable for playing three matches for a bronze medal team in not a hugely-popular sport. My recommendation would be to redirect these types of players to a Switzerland handball team at the 1936 Summer Olympics, or more likely Handball at the 1936 Summer Olympics. What are your thoughts? speedy delete request
A tag has been placed on Axel Johansson, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

Hi, Doma. I noticed this and got involved, adding a citation and a hangon without noticing that the speedy delete tag was gone. Hope you don't mind. I haven't forgotten the other thing. We'll definitely do it someday. Scolaire 14:13, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
I noticed that you were the one who created the article for Yoshio Sakai. Do you happen to know if he's still alive or not? Cheers, CP 21:34, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Edvin Mattiasson
A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Edvin Mattiasson, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. AfD nomination of Edvin Mattiasson
Edvin Mattiasson, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that Edvin Mattiasson satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Edvin Mattiasson and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). Welcome to Wikipedia. It would be appreciated if you would not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Edvin Mattiasson. Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. Thank you. - CobaltBlueTony 16:57, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Why delete that he was born in Belgium? Saying he was Belgian does not communicate whether it was by birth.--Epeefleche 02:31, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Nikolai Wekchin
I see that you have created this page. The correct spelling is actually Nikolai Vekšin. He was born in Haapsalu, Estonia and died in a Soviet prisoncamp in Norilsk, Siberia. He was a reserve sailor of the Russian team in the 1912 Summer Olympics and most notable competitive sailor during the first independence of Estonia. Gh 18:06, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- Estonia and Russia used old calender until 1918, when the January 31 was succeeded by February 14. All the dates are from Estonian Sports Lexicon, and I actually don't know which calendar it uses. It might be that the birth dates are according to the old calender and death dates according to the new calender. Nikolai Vekšin is the correct Estonian spelling.Gh 13:46, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes we could use OS/NS style with birthdates. My lexicon says about von Wirén that he was born on April 29. I have checked other two sources and they both say September 11. Maybe the April is typo in the book and was meant to be August instead, so his birthdate would be August 29 (OS)/September 11 (NS). I actually don't know, but this seems quite ok to me.
As of Katherine Rawls, all my sources say, that he was born June 14, 1918.
Yes we could add the picture of Henri Rang, if the picture is in public domain or the copyright holder gives us permission. From looking at the picture info page, I guess it is copyrighted, but I don't speak any Romanian to confirm it. I guess we have to contact the person who uploaded it to Romanian Wikipedia. Gh 14:27, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- I have checked, but the Lexicon doesn't say, which calendars it uses. It gives only only one date of birth per person, whether he was born before or after 1918. Anyway I have checked my other sources (Estonian books about Olympic Games, first published in 1980 during the Soviet era, second in 1992) and they agree with each other, giving the dob of Vekšin May 23, G. Faehlmann September 17, Vogdt July 27 and von Wirén September 11. I think they all are NS dates.
- Vogdt, Vekšin and von Wirén were born in Governorate of Estonia, Lääne County (= Läänemaa). Haapsalu was and is a capital of Lääne County. Hiiu County (= Hiiumaa) was separated from Lääne County in 1950.
- Of course I will support, that Katherine Rawls was born in June 14, 1918. As far as I know this is the right dob. The user has to show some evidence that she was born on July 28, 1917, because all the sources I have seen say June 14, 1918.
- As of Henri Rang, feel free to contact the Romanian user. If you don't, I will in the near future. Gh 17:27, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yes the dates seem ok.
- Yes the redirecting seems ok, because Reval Governorate was in some time renamed to Governorate of Estonia, but nothing else changed. And you can add Russian Empire, if you want, because Estonia was then part of a Russian Empire.
- I'll write to the Romanian User today.
- The Social Security Death Index gives the dob of Katherine Rawls as June 14, 1917 [29] Gh 14:53, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

All my sources say, that his name was Isaac Kitts, not Issac Kitts. Gh 13:58, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
- Wudarski has Alfred Damon Lindley. I think it's correct. www.olympic-medallists.com has his date of birth as January 20, 1904 and death as November 11, 1991. I don't have any other sources of his death. The US eights crew all were from Yale University, which is a law school I think. This shows Alfred Damon Lindley born in 1904 in Minnesota and being a lawyer. Also Yale University lists its Olympians here, showing Alfred D. Lindley.
- Wudarski has Latino Galasso, with one l.
- I don't have any info about Mariarcher. Wudarski shows that Colin H. B. Finlayson rowed both in first round and in final. I don't have any info about him.
- Wudarski has Fritz Loosli.
- Wudarski shows that Fritz Loosli rowed in the first round and reprechage but was replaced by Emile Henri Lachapelle in the final. Wudarski also shows that Marcel Lepan rowed in first round and in the final. France didn't participate in the reprechage as it advanced directly from first round to final.
Gh 13:13, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
- Wudarski has Hans Walter, withou the h.
- Also Wudarski has Loosli, with two o and one s, not Lossli, with two s and one o. Gh 14:04, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Notability of John Brinck
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on John Brinck, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because John Brinck seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting John Brinck, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. DEFAULTSORT
Hi. Thanks for the info on the BD template and sorting. Your use of it was the first time I'd seen it and suspected it allowed the sorting within those two categories (as you confirmed). I went ahead and added the defaulsort for the other categories that would have lists of members names that might benefit from having that sort of sorting. If you believe that unnecessary my change can be deleted. Thanks. Altzinn 01:06, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Ice Hockey
You are correct about Joseph Albert Sullivan, my source says also 1901. I edited the existing article and didn't notice that the birth year was incorrect.
I have added nicknames. Calle Aber was nickname of Carl Abrahamsson, I don't know his middle mane.
My only source about Hugh Plaxton is www.olympic-medallists.com/CAN.html It says November 1, but maybe your source is better. I don't know.
Do you know anything about Swiss hockeyteam in 1928. I know very little. Gh 15:24, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Also Nils Johansson: I have October 5, 1904 - December 8, 1936.
- Swedish Olympic Commitee has February 5, 1905 - December 3, 1936.
- Which one is correct, I don't know.Gh 15:43, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your data. I have created the pages. I knew Torriani's, Morosani's and Kraatz's date of death, and you knew some more but still a lot is missing. Also I changed Torriani's first name to Richard as all my sources give that. And I fixed the cat. Gh 17:14, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Re: ?
There is currently no consensus as to whether to organize the categories by importance or alphabetically. Personally I prefer alphabetically because it always gives a definite ordering of things whereas importance does not always do so. Obviously "Gold medalists of France" is more important than "Bronze medalists of France," but the categories are not always so clear cut. What's more important, "Finnish centenarians" or "Bronze medalists of Finland?" It's completely subjective. As for the date style, WP:DATE is clear on how to format date entries and, to be honest, that was the intuitive format for me anyhow. Too much information between the brackets makes it too messy if you ask me. If other wikis disagree, that's fine, but I don't lower my standards because other people do. As you've probably seen, however, I get very lazy in implementing the rule. I'm going through the Olympics systematically, first on Wikipedia and eventually on databaseOlympics to try and find out the oldest (90+) Olympic athletes. If I want to finish that project within a reasonable time frame, I can't go through every athlete and implement WP:DATE, otherwise I'd never get done – so I only do it on pages I have to edit for other reasons anyways (same with the organization of categories too, by the way). Hope that explains things, and keep up the good work with the athlete articles! Cheers, CP 01:44, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
1936 Bronze Medal in Featherweight Boxing
Do you know why both Josef Miner of Germany and Lou Laurie of the United States are listed as winning the bronze medal in featherweight boxing in 1936? Cheers, CP 17:28, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
H. Chandler Egan
I see that you moved H. Chandler Egan to Henry Egan. I understand your reasoning (the first initial is a little strange), but all indications are that he used Chandler Egan and avoided "Henry". Most references to him use either H. Chandler or quite often just Chandler. If you want to eliminate the first initial usage, Chandler Egan would be better. There are really no references to him as Henry Egan that I can find. Thanks! --Esprqii 21:47, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for seeking the admin on this. I would have done it, but I wanted to check with you first.
- And no, I don't have any more info on the other 1904 golfers. I came it at from a different angle as I work on biographies of sportspeople from Oregon. Egan just happened to be one of those. But if I run across anything, I will let you know. --Esprqii 22:21, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
Some of my sources give also 1882, but databaseolympics.com, German Wikipedia and http://www.olympic-medallists.com/GER.html give 1883. I don't know which is actually correct. Gh 22:34, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yes you are right about September 11. This was my mistake. Gh 07:20, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Sportspeople
Hi Doma, how you doing? No, I didn't revert your edits. What I did was add once more "Category:Puerto Rican sportspeople", because I believe that as sportspeople they should be in that category plus their individual cats, be it boxer, baseball player so on and so forth. If a person wishes to look up the sportspeople of Puerto Rico, they can check that cat. If they only wish to know who the PR Boxers, they can check out that specific cat. i must say that it is nice to see people like you involved in our project. Tony the Marine 02:36, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- Let me add, that after looking over Category:American sportspeople!, I wouldn't object if you did the same for the Puerto Ricans as you first stated in my talk page. Keep up the good work. Tony the Marine 02:40, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
I think that the article is just plain wrong. He hasn't participated in any Summer Olympics as a footballer as far as I know or if he did, then he was only a reserve player and didn't play any matches. I read through bulgarian article (bulgarian is quite close to russian, so I understand almost all of it), and it doesn't mention that he has participated in Summer Olympics. Bulgarian article says that he participated only in 1960 Winter Olympics as an alpine skier. But it also says that he represented Bulgaria also as volleyball player. Bulgarian article doesn't mention that, but maybe he participated Summer Olympics as a volleyball player. Gh 14:15, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- Checked and he didn't participate as volleyball player at 1964 Summer Olympics. He might have been only a reserve player that didn't play any matches. User:TodorBozhinov added that he participated in both Summer and Winter Olympics. He seems to be bulgarian, so maybe he know more about it. Gh 14:23, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- I think that the right text would be: "only bulgarian who has participated in Winter Olympic Games and Soccer World Cup. I haven't found any evidence that he participated in Summer Olympics.Gh 15:11, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
I have made a change. Is that any better? Cheers, CP 20:23, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Per the WP:MoS (in a section that I can't seem to find at the moment), white space is highly discouraged as it disrupts the flow of the article (even in a stub!) It should be avoided whenever possible. Cheers, CP 23:59, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Hmmm... they must have changed the policy... so I guess two spaces before the stubs is okay. As for your second question, I've seen it done both ways and I do not believe that there is a consensus on which way to do it. So you can do it however you would like. I tend to do it with two brackets, but not always. Cheers, CP 00:15, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I saw you had put Capadrutt's death date in 1939. Do you have any idea where or how he died? If so, then could you please put it into the article? Thanks. Chris (talk) 14:13, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. I will have to find out from somewhere else. Chris (talk) 01:22, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- Apologize for not writing sooner, but I did get more information on Capadrutt. It turns out he was killed in a bobsledding accident. Another source I found confirmed this. Chris 02:00, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the info on the sorting. This sentence in the documentation: "Other categories still need sort tags, because the one here is not visible" made it sound like you needed to add it to have other categories sort properly. I suppose I could have just tested it... Oh well, I get it now. --Esprqii (talk) 18:33, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

James Fitzpatrick (rugby player) - The edits might be correct, as the person who did them seems so sure and provided additional info, and I might have been wrong. Maybe we should ask him? Or if you have access to Bill Mallon's new database [30] you can check there. I don't have access to it, but I know User:DerbyCountyinNZ has access to it. Maybe ask him?
Charles Lee Tilden, Jr. - According to Wudarski, Tilden didn't play any matches in 1924. 1924 Official report says, he was part of American team, but didn't play any matches.
John Muldoon and William S. Muldoon - Wudarski says that John Muldoon played in 1920. 1924 official report says that they both were members of America team, but didn't play any matches.
Everything else seems OK. Gh (talk) 14:56, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
The answer to Aleksander Klumberg-Kolmpere's name involves a bit of a history. Until 1820, Estonians were kind of a slaves and didn't have family names. Alexander I of Russia freed the Estonians from peasantry and the local nobility (who was mostly from German origin) had to give family names to all who lived under their ruling. Some gave plain Estonian names like Kuusk (pine-tree), Tamm (oak-tree) or Rebane (fox), some tried to be funny and gave funny estonian names like Ilumats (literally 'beautiful hillbillie') or Tänavots (literally 'person who lives at the end of the street'). There was even a competition in some places, who can think and give a strangest name (but they mustn't have been offensive). (Some athletes who have competed in Olympics and have funny names: Eduard Vanaaseme (weightlifter) (trans. 'old bed'), Gustav Ernesaks (weightlifter) (trans. 'master of peas'). And some gave plain German names.
During 1930s when Estonia had a very nationalist government, they made a calling to change the German names to Estonian ones (Finland had the same movement at the end of 1920s). About 75% of people who had German names changed their names. The new name usually was either translation of the German name, or it sounded more or less like the German one. Athletes who did so Kristjan Palusalu was until 1935 Trossmann, Alfred Schmidt who won silver in weightlifting in 1920 changed his name to Sillak. Aleksander Klumberg changed his name in 1935 or 1936 to Kolmpere. Many more athletes changed his name, but I don't remember them right now (I don't have any reference material with me right now). Some people were later known by their new name, like Kristjan Palusalu. Some were known by double names like Aleksander Klumberg-Kolmpere (he is referenced like this in Estonian enciclopaedias) and some were known by their old name, like Alfred Schmidt (nobody references him as Sillak, although he legally changed his name).
As of Ferenc Forgács/Forgách I don't know. Forgács seems to be more Hungarian name (a lot of Hungarian names end with -cs), but I am not expert. You have to ask some Hungarian to be sure. Gh 10:07, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, during 1920 and 1924 Olympics, his name was still Klumberg. After 1935 or 1936 (I have to look up exactly in which year he changed his name) his name was Kolmpere, but now he is generally known as Klumberg-Kolmpere. So I think you can change the articles. Gh 13:19, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

It's nice to know you: I'm a tennis writer from Japanese Wikipedia. I noticed you from several death date additions, like Archibald Warden [31], Basil Spalding de Garmendia [32] and more. There, I noticed many people from your contributions. Where did you find these, from an old book? I brought the same question to User talk:Gh#Death dates several days ago. (I found his name from several Olympic tennis players too.) If possible, please write your sources to my talkpage. I'll remember them, and try to search in my own eyes too. My best regards. --Hhst (talk) 12:30, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you. I found a new book "The Golden Book of the Olympic Games" by Erich Kamper and Bill Manlon. Does it help me? My best regards. --Hhst (talk) 23:38, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- Dear friend, I have almost the same question but on the next stage. I am from Russian Wikipedia. We have had rather hot debates on the question if it is correct to transfer bio data (especially birth and death dates) from en.wiki - and the matter of this discussion was exactly the case of some Olympic medalists. I argued that I know who is the author of the articles (naturally that is you) and what is the source of information (the book you mention here and there in the comments). But as far as we have in our Russian section the rule of Verifiability - my opponents say it is not enough: the source of these dates should be clear from the article itself. I don't feel like I may add this info into Russian article as far I have never seen this "Golden Book of the Olympic Games". But if you show this book as your source in all the articles where you use the data from it - it would help us a lot because we could transfer this link from English article into Russian one. Vandalism
Do you know how to fix this: Joseph McCormick (ice hockey). And I hope I'm not the only one who sees a picture of penis in that page. I don't know how to fix this. Gh (talk) 22:17, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Somebody already fixed this, sorry to bother you. Gh (talk) 07:40, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Hi. I noticed that you added a death date to Adolf Möller of 1968, which would have made him over 100 years old at the time of death. Can you provide a citation for this? I want to add a full and proper citation to his entry at List of centenarians. Cheers, CP 23:46, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Do you have publication years and information for those books so that proper citations can be done? Cheers, CP 18:40, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yup, that's great. Thanks! Cheers, CP 23:43, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Did you use the same source for Willem Winkelman? I'd like to add him too. Cheers, CP 18:38, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks! Cheers, CP 22:30, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Stub tags
Yes, sometimes I leave it, but sometimes I will change it to one line of white space, simply because (in some cases) I think it looks slightly better without a lot of white space. It all depends what all is around the tag. jj137 ♠ 23:36, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Do you think it is possible to respect, that Olympic result pages start with the "medalists"? Or are you on the way to delete them all e.g. from the 2004 athletics pages? Doma-w (talk) 03:21, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hi there. Well, I don't see any reason why the winners should be duplicated on the same page. Regards, Darius Dhlomo (talk)
Spain's Olympic flag yet to add on Spain at the 1980 Summer Olympics article
Could you pls add the flag of the Spanish Olympic Commitee on the infobox on Spain at the 1980 Summer Olympics for me and also in the participating nations section of the 1980 Summer Olympics for me, thanks.

British Flagbearers at the Olympic Games
Could you please add all of the British flagbearers in all of the Olympic Games, thanks!
Could you please give your source for spelling the name of this French commune in this way? As you can see, I quoted the official name as given by INSEE in my change description, but here it is again in case you missed it. Kiwipete (talk) 06:59, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Imre Páli
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Imre Páli, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}}
to the top of Imre Páli. DJBullfish (talk) 00:27, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes you are right about Charles Bacon. I have corrected the page. Gh (talk) 08:16, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
My source says the the shooter's name was Thomas Granville Brown born February 2, 1885 and died November 4, 1950. See here [33] [34]
Also my source says that Harry Adams middle name was Lester. [35] [36] Gh (talk) 15:59, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
- My source says that Raymond Coulter was born in April 12, 1897 and died in January 23, 1965 [37] [38]
- Also my source says, that John Boles (sport shooter) was born in January 31, 1888, not November 30, 1888. [39] I have made that change already. Gh (talk) 12:29, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
Footballers
For Sabino Bilbao I got the info from here. It's an official Spanish football site, listing all players who have played in Spanish A-team. Sometimes their date of birth and databaseolympics.com date of birth didn't match, so I put a note to the article.
The rest of the names are according to Wudarski.Gh (talk) 08:30, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Of course you are right about the names. I have corrected them. I had quite old (3-4 years) Wudarski files, and these had names like I created the articles. I have now updated all my Wudarski files and they have the names like you told me. Also you are correct about André Fierens, it was my mistake.
- Do you have any info about Adhemar Canavesi? Most of my sources give his date of birth as November 14, 1884, but one of my sources says August 18, 1903 [40]. I would think that the 1903 is correct, because when born in 1884, he would have been 44 years old in 1928. A bit old to play football in my believings, but who knows. And do you know his death date? Gh (talk) 15:43, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
- I think you are right about Adhemar Canavesi. When I get to him I will use (August 18, 1903 – November 14, 1984). Gh (talk) 16:44, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
You are right about Paul Fässler and Robert Pache. But this site gives Paul Schmiedlin's date of death as March 7, 1976. I don't have any other source about his death. Gh (talk) 13:40, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- I think that Mallon is right and this site accitentally mixed it up with Reymond's death date. I have changed the page. Gh (talk) 14:17, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

- I have removed the deletion tag. Winning an Olympic gold medal is clearly a claim to notability. Sjakkalle (Check!) 12:23, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- It's really not... If the only thing that's being said about a person is "this person won a gold medal", that can be stated adequately on the medal awardees listing page. Equazcion •✗/C • 12:27, 15 Feb 2008 (UTC)
==Peruvian Basketball Players ==
Hey, I noticed you've been making a few bio stubs for these people who ended up finished 8th in a very old olympics. The notability of these people is very up in the air, and I doubt a google search would find anything except these articles. I am going to be throwing speedies on all that I find suspect. Thanks. Queerbubbles (talk) 14:47, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Nm, was informed that even if they've been in just 1 olympics they are notable enough... sorry for my presumptiveness. Queerbubbles (talk) 14:56, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Names
All my sources say Marc Wright. I think I started the article as so, too.
And it is Johann Martin (January 2, 1893 in Riga, Latvia – December 21, 1959)
Gh (talk) 15:39, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, Johann Martin was Estonian, although born in Riga. Gh (talk) 17:14, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Still living?
I'm working on my little list of 90+ Olympians who are living or possibly living. All of the following people are listed as "living" rather than "possibly living" on their pages, but I couldn't find any recent evidence that they are still living nor any evidence that they have died. Have all of these people been proved living recently or should some be moved into the "possibly living" category? Any help you could provide would be much appreciated!

- I'm keeping interesting statistics like that, but I'm not sure where to put them just at the moment (Samuel Duvall as the earliest born, Jalmari Kivenheimo as the longest lived medalist, Dirk Janssen as the longest lived Olympic competitor) etc. Maybe if I could ever turn the list into an actual Wikipedia article, they would have a place there...
