Your climate edits
editI have raised the issue of your climate edits at Wikipedia_talk:Canadian_Wikipedians'_notice_board#Bad_climate_chart_data_edits. Air.light (talk) 23:33, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- I am aware of this, and I completely understand your complaint. I have no intention of leaving those climate charts unfinished, it took a little while for environment Canada to release the rest of the climate data for those locations (rain, snow depth, etc), which I guess I didn't anticipate. They just released more data for those places recently, which means and I can add it, so there's no need to delete anything. Donkeybread (talk) 13:06, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- I appreciate that you're trying to improve things here, but we can't have the 1981-2010 and 1991-2020 data mixed in with the same chart. It shouldn't be that way for even 1 day, let alone for months or indefinitely like it is now. It breaks Wikipedia's rules and ruins its reputation to have incorrect data presented to the public like this.
- For an example of how different datasets should be displayed, take a look at the Climate of Vancouver page. There are different charts for different datasets. Also look at the chart for Oakridge, within Vancouver. There was limited data available for that location so that chart only has the few, relevant lines of precipitation data displayed. Just copy and paste the code for a chart and edit it for the new and limited 1991-2020 data you have to work with, to make a new standalone chart. Remove the lines that you have no data for. When all of the 1991-2020 data becomes available, the 1981-2010 charts can be removed from most city articles. Some might argue that we should not post any 1991-2020 data until all of the data for it is available, but I am in favour of some leniency here so you can continue with your work.
- As for all your past edits, they should be fixed to have the 2 datasets separated as soon as possible. Thank you. Air.light (talk) 22:53, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- That is totally fine. I honestly only changed a handful of locations to 1991-2020 (many of them were already half-finished by other people) so it will not be difficult to implement that in a short period of time. Donkeybread (talk) 11:25, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
