21 Signal Regiment (United Kingdom) can you check its history

and English, initially atrocious. I edited some but can you double check? Thanks

I have tweaked it a bit. Dormskirk (talk) 15:08, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

Royal Sussex Regimental Cap badge

Morning Dormskirk! I told you I was addicted! Looking at the RSR page I am pretty horrified at the top picture of the cap badge. I tried to change it, but found the hieroglyphics on the edit page unfamiliar. So, could you change it to this

Royal Sussex Regimental Cap Badge

please? Also, could you keep a watchful eye out for Opera hat, 'cos I am not happy about the General Manners/80th situation and need to know it is dealt with. I left a message on his talk page. Thanks. Arbil44 (talk) 11:04, 7 December 2019 (UTC)

Done. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 12:06, 7 December 2019 (UTC)

Hyams

Could I correct some errors on the page on Tim Hyams?

He was commissioned in 1986 not 1983

5th Royal inniskilling Dragoon Guards became the Royal Dragoon Guards in 1992.

42 (City of Manchester) Signal Squadron

42 (City of Manchester) Signal Squadron was there ever such a unit or is this an imagination of the creators?

BlueD954 (talk) 02:23, 20 March 2019 (UTC)

Based on the references I suspect that there was, but I am unfamiliar with it. But the article contains no information on 42 (City of Manchester) Signal Squadron (it only contains material on its predecessor units) so I have changed the article into a redirect. Best wishes. Mark Wilson

Hello Dormskirk - thank you so much for taking a look at Mark Wilson's profile. I've just had a look and he is still listed int he biog bar on the right as CEO of Aviva and on the board of Aviva. Please can you remove those references?

Thanks so much HayleySandford (talk) 09:20, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Hayley - I have removed the mention of him being a board member of Aviva. As regards him being CEO it does show underneath his term as being 2013–2018 so I think it is reasonably clear that he is the ex-CEO. I hope this helps. Dormskirk (talk) 09:26, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

https://twitter.com/DefenceHQ/status/1127991574103719937

There are only these two twitter threads that say Admiral Timothy Fraser has assumed the post of VCDS. Should they be used as references and alter the relevant pages accordingly or wait for gov.uk or official announcements?

Thanks

Hello, you recently moved my page back to a draft even though there are no independent sources on the page? Airline7375 (talk) 23:22, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

I'm a patient

In June 2019, the hospital was one of the filming locations for the Channel 4 drama, "The Light", starring Sarah Lancashire. The series will air later in the year.

I AM THE SOURCE AS I AM A PATIENT ON GWELFOR WARD AT THE HOSPITAL - AND I CAN SEE THE TRUCKS FROM MY ROOM... I HAVE ASKED THEM MYSELF AND FOR MORE INFO YOU WILL NEED TO CONTACT CHANNEL 4 Cpqueeley89 (talk) 21:47, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

Or you can contact the ward directly on 01792 516402 if you live in the UK and they will confirm it for you...

Or 01792 561155.. That's the main switchboard, they will also confirm it. Cpqueeley89 (talk) 21:52, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

Or email me on cpqueeley1989@gmail.com and I will happily send photos for confirmation which I took myself Cpqueeley89 (talk) 21:55, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

Vivian Street (British Army officer)

Hi there. I noticed that you removed my addition of the subject's wife because it was unsourced, which is fair enough. However, I happen to be the subject's great-grandson, so know this fact without a quotable source. Just wondering if you know a way of marking this? Thanks Δουλοιεσμεν (talk) 23:41, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi - A good place to look would be "Who was who". As he was a major-general there is a good chance that he (and details of his immediate family) appeared in that publication. You can then cite it as a source. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 06:26, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

Chatham Dockyard: Jillingham Water

Congratulations on finding a source for this, but it does not seem to be that which was accessed by the original writer: 1) the spelling of "Jillynhgam" is different from that currently shown in the article; 2) your new source does not include the phrase "– to remaigne there till the yere be further spent...". Should the article text be amended accordingly? (from a Kentish Man) Blurryman (talk) 17:06, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Dormskirk, I've removed the citation of businesstelegraph.co.uk that you added to Daejan Holdings (in Special:Diff/888209120) because the linked page is a copyright violation of the Financial Times article. Hi there. I notice you recently created a load of categories for Hospitals in Northern Ireland by county (Category:Hospitals in County Antrim etc.) I also notice a grave error in each of those categories. The Crichton

Hi, I see you have made lots of much needed changes to The Crichton as it has transitioned from a hospital to a university and business park. I see there are some further revisions needed to the info box and other details. I live near Dumfries so have personal knowledge of the changes and current use, so suggest that I make some further revisions, but wanted to collaborate with you before embarking on that, since you have already done so much. Any thoughts? Thanks. Mark.Mouswald (talk) 19:14, 30 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi - The Crichton was a hospital for 175 years and only became a university and business park a few years ago. The infobox is a "hospital infobox" and does include key information from when it was a hospital. This is only logical in that the vast amount of its history relates to its time as a hospital. But please feel free to add additional sourced information if you have it. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 19:19, 30 July 2019 (UTC)

Admiral Sir Charles Ogle - portrait bequeathed to him by General Sir Charles Asgill

Hello Dormskirk. For some considerable time I have been trying to locate a portrait, painted in 1822, and bequeathed the following year to Admiral Sir Charles Ogle in perpetuity. I have looked for this in portrait galleries around the world and Yale is currently trying to find it too. I've put ads in papers asking for information and even engaged art detectives to try to find it! On the offchance you might know anything about what happened to this portrait, and more especially its current whereabouts, I would be extremely grateful to you if you could give me some information. It has been suggested to me that it perished in a fire in Hampshire about a hundred years ago, which of course is quite possible. Just knowing what happened would mean I could put this search 'to bed' ! Sorry to trouble you and many thanks. Arbil44 (talk) 18:18, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi - This sounds a most interesting story. Sadly I am no expert on lost art but wish you the best of luck with your search. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 18:44, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi Dormskirk. Thank you for your reply. It was a long shot, I know, but sometimes those who contribute on a subject know more than they are making public! In your studies you just might have come across information about a fire, or disinheritance etc. Thanks and best wishes.Arbil44 (talk) 10:00, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi Dormskirk. As I understand it, it is possible to be in email contact within the Wikipedia community? There is something I would very much like to pass by you if I may? If you could please email me I will explain! Many thanks. Arbil44 (talk) 14:03, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
Hi - We don't tend to disclose personal details in order to preserve anonymity. But feel free to place a message here. Remember that I am not a historian so I may not be able to help! Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 14:17, 14 September 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply Dormskirk. Lieutenant Colonel James Gordon of the 80th Regiment of Foot (Royal Edinburgh Volunteers) [1] was the hero of The Asgill Affair (as Asgill acknowledges in his letter of 1786). Not only did he offer to go to the gallows in Asgill’s stead; lay a detailed plan (with the help of several ladies in Summit, New Jersey and no doubt beyond – I fancy they were going to portray themselves as laundrywomen and bundle Asgill into a basket!) to ‘spirit Asgill away’ to escape execution (which, when it happened, Asgill refused to go along with) but the whole six month affair was the beginning of the end for him and he became increasingly ill during the course of the following year. It had pained him so greatly so see such a popular young man have his life sacrificed. He eventually died of dropsy in October 1783 at the Morris House in Upper Manhattan. The Source for all this information is General Washington’s Dilemma, by Katherine Mayo, published in 1938 and The History of Chatham, New Jersey by Ambrose E. Vanderpoel. Their source was, amongst others, the account of these events given by Samuel Graham, one of the 13 officers who drew their names out of a hat to go to the gallows. These books, each with a bit more than the other, are listed in Further Reading on the Asgill page.

I am unable to create a page for James Gordon, but I very much hope that you might be prepared to do so? It may be too late already since poor Gordon is really the forgotten hero – and has been so for far too long. But would you be prepared to give it a go? I hope you will forgive me for making this request, but I understand you have created pages for military personnel, albeit more senior figures. James Gordon is very special and was loved by all who knew him. Many thanks. Arbil44 (talk) 19:04, 14 September 2019 (UTC)

OK. I will start it off for you and then leave it to you to expand it. As regards use of email, please read WP:BLPPRIVACY: posting of personal information in articles or talk pages is not recommended. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 21:14, 14 September 2019 (UTC)

Thank you Dormskirk. That was why I wanted to use email, especially since I am in touch with another member that way - who indicated it was a possible, indeed accepted, method. Sorry to have misunderstood. I will delete some of the above message. Arbil44 (talk) 21:44, 14 September 2019 (UTC)

No problem. I have created the article (see James Gordon (British Army officer, died 1783)). I hope you like it. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 21:47, 14 September 2019 (UTC)

Thank you so much Dormskirk. I am very happy indeed that you so kindly created this page. I really hope that people will look at it and get to know this Scottish officer who was so deeply loved by comrades and enemy alike. Would it be possible to add the image of the Morris House from their website (I created a link and the image is on page one)? I also have a photograph I took when in the room where he died. If you agree, could you guide me as to how I upload it? Arbil44 (talk) 23:06, 14 September 2019 (UTC)

My thanks for all your efforts, I'm so grateful. With regard to the Further Reading books - the task you have set me is daunting beyond words, since Gordon is mentioned throughout. The picture you have added isn't the best one (that is on the Jumel website), but the top right window is the room where Gordon died, so that is nice.Arbil44 (talk) 23:25, 14 September 2019 (UTC)

I suspect that the one on the Jumel website is copyrighted so we cannot use that. If you want to upload an image please it is best to use this link to access the upload wizard and follow the instructions. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 23:30, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
That was very scary! I got this message: "Thanks for uploading!" but nothing appears on the James Gordon page, so I hate to think where it has gone instead...Arbil44 (talk) 00:11, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
You have successfully uploaded it - well done! I have found it on the wikimedia commons and inserted it in the James Gordon article. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 09:26, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

Thank you again for your kind and patient assistance Dormskirk. Now I am having difficulties with regard to uploading Asgill's coat of arms. I have been told to ask here https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Village_pump/Copyright#Coat_of_Arms_for_General_Sir_Charles_Asgill%2C_2nd_baronet This is all part of why I find Wikipedia so difficult to navigate.Arbil44 (talk) 11:29, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

I think you are asking at the right place. These are complicated issues. I am not clear who owns the copyright to Asgill's coat of arms. You may have bought a copy of it but that does not give you copyright. I would wait and see what response you get. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 11:38, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

I am nearly finished here Dormskirk, thank goodness! I will ring the Lancaster Herald tomorrow and ask the question. I think, and hope, my final question to you is do you have a copy of the 1782 Army List? I have checked my library, and they don't have it, but I need to check whether Captain The Hon. Fulke Greville's initial was "R" (as Mayo claims) or "C" as he is listed on Wikipedia? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Greville_(1762%E2%80%931832) The Captain Charles The Hon. Fulke Greville's Wikipedia profile fits perfectly with a man who would have been Asgill's friend - at school with him - and drew lots with him. I have checked with the Wiltshire record office, which holds the original letter, and they confirm that it is unsigned, so Mayo was putting two and two together and, in my view, getting it wrong. This is important and I don't know how to do this since there are no Army Lists near to where I live (or even in my county it would seem). I am not trying to try your patience, honestly, and I know I am being a pain in the neck. Thank you. Arbil44 (talk) 14:06, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't have one: that's quite specialist. You will probably need to apply for a reading ticket at the British Library. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 16:08, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

Thank you Dormskirk. I will email a contact I have there who is exceptionally helpful since going to London is completely out of the question. I am in hospital in a few days time and need answers quickly. Arbil44 (talk) 16:53, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

Good luck with the hospital visit. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 17:10, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

Dormskirk. I am quite literally in tears now and shaking like a leaf. I want to be finished with Wikipedia but there are just two things left for me to do. One of them is playing out like a nightmare here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Village_pump/Copyright#Coat_of_Arms_for_General_Sir_Charles_Asgill%2C_2nd_baronet Please could you help me? Thank you Arbil44 (talk) 08:10, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

I think you are making inquiries at the right place. Image copyright is a complex area and I do not want to give you inappropriate advice. I suggest you wait until you have had your hospital visit and are not under pressure. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 08:45, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

Fair enough Dormskirk, but I don't know what more I am supposed to do? I have been told by the College of Arms that I hold the copyright to the coat of arms. What does Wikipedia want - blood? It's an entirely different kettle of fish on the Cornwallis page where there aren't even any references. I certainly feel I am not being treated fairly, having spoken with the Lancaster Herald yesterday. Things are likely to be worse after Friday since I am being investigated for cancer, so I wanted all this over before then and to be free of Wikipedia. Besides which, I am being ignored over there, which doesn't help. Arbil44 (talk) 09:03, 17 September 2019 (UTC) Arbil44 (talk) 09:07, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

Sorry, but I really have tried to help you as best as I can on this. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 09:25, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

You certainly have been helpful Dormskirk, thank you again. Finally the coat of arms issues are sorted and I hope it will not be long before it is on the Asgill page. When it is, is it possible that you would please add the English translation of his family motto - which is "Regardless of his own interest"? That was how he lived his life. I have one more paragraph to add to Asgill's page, once I hear back from Edinburgh with a reference. After the December journal is published, with revelatory information, I shall take the opportunity to add more to the James Gordon page, which, sadly, doesn't look as though it will be doing very well. I hope it will not be deleted before I have a chance to add more? Then, once Trinity has erected the marker to him in thier churchyard, after languishing in an unmarked grave for 236 years, I will put up a link to that too. I have had a very difficult and stressful time on Wikipedia, and not enjoyed it one bit. My lack of IT skills are to some extent to blame, but I know, even if others do not, that I make up for these deficiencies in many other ways! I am in hospital tomorrow, so I hope I am done here for the time being. My thanks again. Arbil44 (talk) 12:24, 19 September 2019 (UTC)

No problem. Good luck with the hospital. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 12:30, 19 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi Dormskirk. I will have left Wikipedia permanently by tomorrow but there is information I would like to pass to you privately before I do, which not only affects Charles Asgill, but also James Gordon. Members here have emailed me via Wikipedia <wiki@wikimedia.org> (thus not divulging their personal email addresses) To: Arbil44. If you would be prepared to do so too then I could give you information I am not prepared to make public. Thanks and regards. Arbil44 (talk) 10:22, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

I am really sorry but as previously indicated, I would prefer not to disclose my email address. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 10:46, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi again Dormskirk. The internal emailing system doesn't reveal your personal email address to me. Several people have emailed me this way and I have no idea what their email address is. I would have liked to pass some historical information to you privately, that's all. Since I have been called a liar by another member, I shall be leaving Wikipedia tomorrow evening in order to care for my husband, who has cancer surgery on Wednesday. My own surgery was a week ago, so I am sure you will understand that I cannot carry on here under the circumstances. I had hoped to be able to finish off my work first, but I cannot go on talking to myself day after day. I have acomplished all demands required of me. Yet no response continues to be the norm. Thanks and regards. Arbil44 (talk) 15:35, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi - I totally understand you wanting to leave wikipedia and I hope all goes well with your husband and yourself. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 16:58, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
Arbil44, the system you're referring to is OTRS. Not all editors can be contacted this way; only a very small set of editors who have volunteered to answer questions sent to a general Wikipedia e-mail address have access to it. If there is information that you would like to share with me, please send it in reply to one of my e-mails sent through that system. Cordless Larry (talk) 18:32, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

Please allow me to apologize first for your previous experiences using Wikipedia. It is hoped that everyone's experiences in Wikipedia be pleasant ones, and I personally hope that the time spent editing here for you contains more meaningful interactions with editors who will appreciate your contributions to the project, rather than the negative interactions that you've unfortunately experienced. Please give us more time to meet these expectations — I know that better experiences exist and they can be very rewarding. Regards, Spintendo 12:13, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

The above post made me cry since it was the only nice post I’ve received since 2007. Nothing improved though. Far from it, it got worse. It wasn’t long before I was being threatened with permanent - instant – without warning - banning – because I am an old woman of 75 with very inadequate IT skills. So - banning on ageist grounds. I was also snapped at and given orders – all of which I obeyed to the letter. The worst cruelty of all though was being ghosted – day after day after day. Since August’s cull I’ve had no choice but to be here day after day, desperately trying to rebuild my Asgill page against all the odds. This vile, vindictive and bullying environment has brought me to my knees and I am now a gibbering nervous wreck (definition: speaking rapidly and unintelligibly, typically through fear or shock), feeling ill and unable to sleep. I have also now been inexcusably insulted by being called a liar, since I was forced to go over to Wikipedia Media. Dormskirk and Cordless Larry have both tried to alleviate my stress, and for this I am grateful. I would now plead with both of them to get my three edits done today. I leave tonight and would have greater peace of mind when I have gone if my work was finished. I shall be posting a fuller account on my talk page, as I have been ordered to do, which hardly seems appropriate since all the edits are on the Asgill talk page. Thanks for your efforts. Arbil44 (talk) 06:19, 1 October 2019 (UTC)

I have added the agreed text. I hope it is OK. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 07:43, 1 October 2019 (UTC)

I am extremely grateful Dormskirk. One down, two to go! Perhaps Cordless Larry might be prepared to upload Lady Asgill's portrait since I have done as requested and all the relevant information is on the Wiki Media page. He has the image. I appreciate your kind assistance. Arbil44 (talk) 08:31, 1 October 2019 (UTC)

No problem. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 09:15, 1 October 2019 (UTC)

Arbil44's COI Complaint

I am posting this on Dormskirk’s talk page because this member has shown kindness, compassion and help towards me (another member) who has now had a nervous breakdown. They may not be able to help me themselves, but I do believe, once this has been read, that they may know what to do. This is a serious complaint against Wikipedia as whole – as an institution – as a place which engages in cyber bullying. My name is Anne Ammundsen and my username is Arbil44. I am an old woman of 75 years of age and my IT skills are very poor indeed. Everything Wikipedia requires of contributors is either Double Dutch to me, or, many times, beyond my abilities to cope with. Others can delete great swathes my work, with great glee, without even informing me until after the event, but when help is needed to rectify my mistakes, it is sparse, slow and hard to find. Here, though, I would like to highly praise both Dormskirk and Cordless Larry, both of whom have devoted much of their time to trying their best to help me. I wouldn’t say that their help has not been enough, but rather my distress goes well beyond anything they would have been able to rectify.

I had to leave Wikipedia on 1st October – for two reasons. Firstly because my health has suffered so badly from my experiences with Wikipedia since later in August 2019, that I suffered a full blown nervous breakdown. The second reason was that on 2nd October my husband was having surgery to remove a cancerous tumour and I knew that I had to give my full attention to caring for him, as best I could in light of my own state of health (permanently shaking, constantly bursting into tears and having lost the ability to sleep more than two or three hours a night, and depression which I have never experienced the like of before in my life). Not to mention that I too had surgery for cervical cancer investigations on 20th September – slap bang in the middle of my Wikipedia crisis. Initially I thought that my departure from Wikipedia would restore my health, but at the eleventh hour I was plunged back into total depression once more. Spintendo had apologised, initially, for my terrible experience with Wikipedia and expressed a wish that it would be a much more worthwhile experience for me. I have no idea whether this was a generic response, or whether they had, indeed, studied the situation and knew what had caused me to express my view that Wikipedia was a vile, vindictive and totally unforgiving environment which had destroyed not only 18 years of my work (at a cost to me of £20,000), but had destroyed my health too. At the time that is what I thought they were apologising for, but as time passed it became clear that it was only during the latter stages of my time on Wikipedia that they seemed to become aware that I had been branded with the COI label and I had been banned from my 18 years of work. This rendered their sweet apology of little value. Indeed, I can only say that my experience, post their apology, became worse and worse. Insult was added to injury when, having given notice of leaving, they appeared online again at quite literally the eleventh hour (having ignored me and left me talking to myself for three days) and instead of apologising once more, sent me a message – but there were no words in that message. The link to their message led me to a blank page – or rather – no message whatsoever. After spending an hour searching for what message they had left me I eventually deduced that they had “notified me” that they had removed my Edit Requests, which at that moment in time, contained three final edit requests to be “approved” prior to my stated departure on health grounds. This seemed like adding insult to injury. I had just spent six weeks of my life obeying every single order which had been demanded of me. I worked tirelessly to obey all the rules, but failed at times on account of my IT ineptitude. So far as providing references is concerned – I provided them all in abundance – several for each item on occasion. Many of these demands had caused me to be up until the small hours of the morning trying to find the demanded references – I didn’t let Wikipedia down on any of them in the end. A deficiency in references being the reason given for culling 6 A4 pages of my work from my Charles Asgill 2nd Baronet page – (just like that – no warning – no apology) - first submitted by me in 2007.

The other reason for the culling was that I am related to Charles Asgill, who is my g-g-g-grandfather. As I say, I have been slapped with the COI branding. I maintain that this fact is the very reason why I have become the only serious authority on the man. Not necessarily the only serious authority on “The Asgill Affair”, by any means, but the only serious authority on the man himself. I was also informed that Asgill was a “minor noble” and therefore didn’t deserve to have such a comprehensive page. This is the most extraordinary statement I have ever heard. Asgill was a cause celebre for his whole life, 5 French Plays were written about his experiences at the hands of George Washington, and throughout his life, and since his death, he has been written about continuously. “The Asgill Affair” was America’s first serious international diplomatic crisis. How then can he be no more than a “minor noble”?

The other reason I left Wikipedia was because, in my view, I was called a liar because I stated that I had found the original portrait, painted by John Hoppner, which depicts Asgill’s wife, Lady Sophia Asgill. This portrait is now owned by a Saudi prince and, in 2011, I had managed to worm my way into the palace to photograph the original portrait – with permission obviously. My photograph is, therefore, of a far better quality than the image of the Hoppner portrait which is shown on Wikipedia’s page concerning Frederica, Duchess of York, to whom Lady Asgill was Lady of the Bedchamber. I may be wrong, but I don’t think it is my own image which Dormskirk kindly uploaded. When I explained my “find” of the original portrait on the Wiki Media page (which Spintendo insisted I post on) the response was “Hm, Where would that be?” Anybody who doesn’t know the meaning of “Hm” in this context, really doesn’t deserve a place as an editor on Wikipedia. My fuller response to that poster is, I presume, still there where I give a blow by blow account of how I came to be standing in a Saudi prince’s palace photographing Hopper’s work. I requested an apology from the poster in question, but none was forthcoming, and I had no support in this request from Spintendo (who appears to be the nominated authority in charge of my COI case).

I would like to say a little about who I am now, and leave you to judge for yourself the likelihood that I am an unreliable and biased contributor who should be banned from her own page. I am the daughter of the late Colonel Philip Newton MBE, FMA, FRSA whose retirement years, after leaving the regular British Army, were spent devoting his life to Army Museums. His passion was military history. His passion is part of my DNA. More about him can be found here. https://www.unithistories.com/officers/Army_officers_N01.html#Newton_PS This will also give a link to my mother’s wartime service as a WRNS officer. I am also the wife of a retired New Zealand Ambassador (sixteen years of being alongside him during his time as Head of Mission, including being in Tehran during the American Hostage Crisis - see the film “Argo” for more details), and just one proof of this can be found on Wikipedia here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ambassadors_of_New_Zealand_to_Saudi_Arabia In my working life I served Britain in both the Foreign Office and also the WRNS where high standards of conduct and accountability were, naturally, expected of me. My Membership number of the Association of Royal Naval Officers is 019242. Check it out if you are doubtful.

What has been the absolute final straw for me, and has brought me to my knees emotionally, physically and psychologically is that, since May 2019 (when I visited the USA to conduct my final research) - this should have been the happiest time of my life. I am on the brink of actually changing history. How many people can claim that? The only way of doing so is to produce new, unpublished, information which nobody else has found or made public. Indeed, the information about to be revealed has been deliberately hidden for 233 years. A publication is in the process of being prepared in America for a December 2019 Journal. This amazing publication is about to completely change “The Asgill Affair”. As will be clear to anyone reading it, this has only come about because of me. Instead of the joy I should be feeling, Wikipedia has turned me into a complete gibbering wreck. I broke down yesterday with a counsellor at my local GP’s surgery. Should it be required, I am perfectly sure they would give written evidence of this. They were astonished at the treatment I have received.

Does the Wikipedia community still judge that I am worthy of being banned from my own Wikipedia page? I hope this post will not be deleted and that, in time, I will be sent a private message to the effect that the status quo has been restored. I cannot engage in further explanations or interaction – I have said it all here – and my own health, and that of my husband, demands that I do what I said I would do, and take a break from Wikipedia. Arbil44 (talk) 10:41, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi - I feel privileged that you have chosen to single me out for the help I have given you. I am delighted to have done this and have enjoyed working on the Charles Asgill article. Alas, I am just another member of the wikipedia community and I am not sure that there is anything I can do that will improve the culture of wikipedia but will continue to try and support other contributors. I wish you all the best for a speedy recovery. Very best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 10:52, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

I recognise when people are being kind Dormskirk - and that has been the case with Cordless Larry too. Are you able to re-post this somewhere more appropriate? Or, does Cordless Larry know of somewhere more appropriate? I think Spintendo needs to be aware of my post, which I have kept entirely factual. I have no idea how to go about making my feelings known publicly and have had to make my identity known in order to claim I am who I am. I just hope that your comment isn't the end of the matter. This neeeds to go up the food chain for attention! Surely it is not OK for this to be the "culture of wikipedia"? Will nobody but you and me see this? Was the image of Sophia you uploaded my copy of the original portrait? It looks a murky image! Many thanks as always.Arbil44 (talk) 11:10, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

Pinging Spintendo, though I confess that I don't understand what they're supposed to have done wrong. Cordless Larry (talk) 13:40, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

You have misunderstood the situation I'm afraid, Cordless Larry, and I hope our emailed correspondence has cleared it up? Arbil44 (talk) 14:47, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

Not really, no. You write of Spintendo: "it became clear that it was only during the latter stages of my time on Wikipedia that they seemed to become aware that I had been branded with the COI label and I had been banned from my 18 years of work". Spintendo got involved because you made a COI request, so he was aware of your COI from the start of his involvement. Moreover, you are not banned and as far as I can see, he has never told you you are. Cordless Larry (talk) 15:12, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

So far as my own image of Lady Asgill is concerned, which as you rightly say, Cordless Larry, I sent to the photo permissions address in desperation - they are not responding. Which seems par for the course. I was requested by Spintendo to go to Wiki Media page to get permission. This I did. The permission is the same as the image kindly uploaded by Dormskirk. The original image is out of copyright. As I have said a million times, I do not have the IT skills to upload this much better image (photograph of Hoppnr portrait taken by me) myself. Is it Wikipedia's policy to ban uploads, donated by old women who lack IT skills? There are so many people here who could do it in a trice. Arbil44 (talk) 15:21, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

We are all volunteers here, Arbil44, and many of us have full-time day jobs. We can't always respond or help immediately. The same goes for the people who respond to e-mails sent to the permissions queue. Cordless Larry (talk) 15:36, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

I know this will be painful for Dormskirk, in whose harbour I am sheltering, but, Cordless Larry, Spintendo specifically told me that I am banned from editing the Charles Asgill page myself, on my own, without first passing it by several other editors and even then I cannot actually do the edit myself. Spintendo did not tell me that I am banned from Wikipedia. But since Charles Asgill is my main interest, its the same difference really. Arbil44 (talk) 15:29, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

Arbil44, Spintendo wrote at User talk:Arbil44#Incorrect page given 28-SEP-2019: "Also, because you are a distant relative to the subject, it would be best if you let others make changes to the article. That's simply because your role as a Wikipedia editor may come into conflict with your role as the distant relative to the subject of the article. That doesnt mean that you are banned from making edits — it only means that you're strongly advised to let others make the edits for you. That final decision of whether to edit the page or not is up to you". Cordless Larry (talk) 16:51, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

And, finally, Dormskirk - dare I ask you to change the portait of Lady Asgill? The permission to use my own image of the original Hoppner portrait can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Media_copyright_questions#Lady_Asgill_portrait_to_be_uploaded_to_the_Sir_Charles_Asgill%2C_2nd_Baronet_pag It is out of copyright so it makes no difference, now, copyright-wise, whether your cropped version is used, or my own cropped image. So far as my own image is concerned, I emailed it to Photo Submissions <photosubmission@wikimedia.org> on 30 September - Subject Re: [Ticket#2019093010002603] Photograph of Lady Sophia Asgill, so they should be able to find it quickly enough. I am so sorry to trouble you once more (I've troubled everyone endlessly I know) but I never chose to be put into this invideous positiom. My image is identical to the one you kindly uploaded, but it is much clearer and fresher looking! Thank you so much for allowing me to use your talk page as a port in a storm. I'm so grateful. Thank you. Arbil44 (talk) 22:05, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

Unfortunately, as explained by Cordless Larry above, the system you are referring to is OTRS. Only a very small set of editors have access to the system and I therefore cannot access the image you have emailed to Photo Submissions. That's why I uploaded a cropped image myself. I thought it would help. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 22:20, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

Spintendo. If I email you my version of the image, will you somehow get it to the Asgill page as a replacement? I'm afraid I cannot go back to my own talk page. It would be just too too stressful for me to do so. I therefore ask permission, here, for the following outstnding edit to be made please:

This is still outstanding and is the text to go with the image, and this is bristling with references too. ” Lady Asgill was Lady of the Bedchamber to HRH Frederica, Duchess of York. [1] The Hoppner portrait of the Duchess http://www.wikigallery.org/wiki/painting_199276/John-Hoppner/Portrait-of-HRH-Frederica-Charlotte-Ulrica-Princess-Royal-of-Prussia-and-Duchess-of-York shows Lady Asgill sitting at her feet. A cropped section of that image is shown here: (** insert image) Lady Asgill was godmother to Hoppner’s granddaughter, Helen Clarence, who was born on May, 1791”. [2] Arbil44 (talk) 22:26, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

For further clarity the notes [1] and [2] are covered as notes [28] and [29] on the Charles Asgill talk page. These are the references I have given. And, Dormskirk, naturally I appreciate what you have done in uploading an alternative version. I hope you understand I just would like a better image for a woman who saved a man's life. Thanks to everyone for dealing with my requests. I dearly wish it wasn't necessary to keep asking for help. Once these two things have, hopefully, been done, then it is all over. Arbil44 (talk) 22:37, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

Dormskirk, I'm shaking like a leaf, but I think I just might have uploaded my version of the Lady Asgill image. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard If I have, would you be kind enough to exchange it for the one currently on the Asgill page? Many thanks. Arbil44 (talk) 08:47, 6 October 2019 (UTC)

It says "thanks for uploading" here https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard, so maybe I've done it? Arbil44 (talk) 08:49, 6 October 2019 (UTC)

Yes, you did successfully upload it and I have now inserted it. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 09:54, 6 October 2019 (UTC)

I'm so very grateful to you Dormskirk. You have done it really beautifully, and the bonus for me is that you have done the outstanding text edit too. It's perfect now and I'm thrilled to pieces that you have done this. I cannot thank you enough. By the way, I hope you too see that the image itself is an improvement! Best wishes Arbil44 (talk) 10:35, 6 October 2019 (UTC)

No problem. And I agree that it is a major improvement (and larger!) Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 10:36, 6 October 2019 (UTC)

Could you guide me through how to add to your Tireless Contributor Star system? I'd like to add one under the Asgill basnner, but have no idea how to do this. Arbil44 (talk) 10:38, 6 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi - That's very thoughtful. You simply go to Wikipedia:Barnstars and copy the template you want to use (the bit shown as {{ }}) and paste it into the recipient's talk page. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 10:45, 6 October 2019 (UTC)

Are you able to give yourself a Barnstar from me to you? As a Tireless Contributor on the Charles Asgill page? I ask, because I am feeling totally lost on the page you directed me to. Otherwise, I send you now a Virtual Barnstar in recognition of all the efforts you have gone to on my behalf. At the very least, I hope you know I am grateful? You also know my IT limitations don't you. Best wishes Arbil44 (talk) 11:01, 6 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi - Don't worry. I take your message as a Virtual Barnstar and am very pleased to have helped resolve this. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 11:05, 6 October 2019 (UTC)

Just found a message from Spintendo in which I am directed to Vanilla ice cream, so don't know what this will look like once published, but if it is a way of public thanks, then that will fit the bill! Arbil44 (talk) 11:09, 6 October 2019 (UTC)

Great. Many thanks for the ice cream! Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 11:13, 6 October 2019 (UTC)

Thomas Cook Retail

I’d like to know why TUI UK hasn’t been merged into TUI AG, these nonsense edits are destroying necessary Thomas Cook pages. (Airline7375 (talk) 23:14, 21 September 2019 (UTC))

Good point. I have adjusted the TUI UK article so it becomes an article on "Thomson Travel" (pre-acquisition) as that was largely what the article was about. The general point is that we should not have a proliferation of articles on subsidiaries: the key points should be in the main article on the group. Dormskirk (talk) 00:17, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

The second greatest man in Egypt

Hi, not sure if you've seen my posts at Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Miscellaneous#"Second greatest man in Egypt" but I've tracked down the original, it was in an after-dinner speech celebrating 50 years of Thomas Cook's excursions, and John M. Cook was in the chair, so perhaps not the most unbiased of claims! I've not been able to find anything (other than material rather obviously lifted from Wikipedia) to suggest the epithet had any broader currency. DuncanHill (talk) 11:17, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

I had not seen that - interesting - Thanks! Dormskirk (talk) 11:19, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

Hugh Champion de Crespigny

Hi Dormskirk! Thank you for improvements you made to this article, much appreciated. As you've probably guessed, I started a new article by not realising this existed, then patched the two together, and all references were thanks to Trove, the Australian National Library's facility for searching Australian newspapers to 1955. This brings me to the deletion which you suspect of being commentary, which I dispute. Responses to a search any of the various ways his name was used (including likely errors in the OCR process) abruptly ceased in July 1947. I have not guessed at a reason, only stated a fact which is not amenable to referencing, but indisputable. He was a noted airman, commandant and administrator, a member of an important family in this country, he had a critical job in Germany, then nothing more is heard. Sometimes silence is louder than words, but how can it be better conveyed? Doug butler (talk) 08:00, 28 September 2019 (UTC)

I understand your view. I have re-inserted the text but as a note and slightly tweaked the wording from "hero" to "former airman". Do you think that covers it? Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 08:22, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
Fine by me. Thanks. Doug butler (talk) 08:47, 28 September 2019 (UTC)

Could you help?

Hi mr dormskirk, I'm new to Wikipedia but not to wiki style editing, I've had a private server on which I've practiced. I was wondering if you would mind checking out my Sandbox before I publish. I want to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong or missing something. Cheers! MHist01 (talk) 19:53, 9 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi - Your article looks pretty good to me. My observations would be (i) you don't need the word "Notes" in every citation (ii) you should use the citation template so that you do not have bare urls showing (see WP:BAREURL) and (iii) you should not have any redlinks in the article unless you have an immediate intention of creating those articles (see WP:REDLINK). Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 20:28, 9 October 2019 (UTC)
So about the redlinks, I shouldn't have them unless I plan to create that page in the near future? Besides that I understand what you mean with the links. Also, what do you mean by "you don't need the word "Notes""? MHist01 (talk) 20:52, 9 October 2019 (UTC)
Hi - Yes, that's right about the redlinks. You need to demonstrate notability and the best way to do that is to create the article (if it is notable). My apologies about "Notes": what you have done is completely correct. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 21:01, 9 October 2019 (UTC)

Royal Yeomanry deployment on Op HERRICK 18

Hi. Many thanks for your help with my recent improvements of the Royal Yeomanry page.

Can you advise me on how to provide published sources for information which, by its nature, is not published?

Specifically, the figure of 25 personnel deployed by the Royal Yeomanry on Op HERRICK 18. I know that figure to be correct because at the time (2012) I commanded A (Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry) Squadron, which provided 10 of the 25. I went on to be commanding officer of the regiment (February 2017 to July 2019) and so believe I am a reliable source.

Hi - Many thanks for this. Unfortunately, although you are clearly more knowlegable on this than anyone else, you still need to comply with the requirements of WP:CITE and WP:RS. Surely there must be something published that you can use? Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 20:18, 12 October 2019 (UTC)

OK - thanks. The trouble is that the MOD do not provide published numbers for deployments. The best I can offer is this:

1. The MOD list of the units involved in HERRICK 18. The Royal Yeomanry contribution is significant enough to warrant a mention. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/units-to-deploy-as-part-of-herrick-18-announced

2. A mention in the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry Association newsletter (March 2012) of the fact that the RY were the lead Yeomanry regiment on that roulement (see page 17). file:///Users/connmacevilly/Downloads/Annual%20Circular%202012%20web.pdf

3. Pages 22-23 of the Autumn 2011 Merchant Taylors' Company Magazine, which describe the Regiment's activities in that year and the next. In fact, there is a lot in there that I will try to incorporate. It says "we are already preparing to send up to another 50 members of the regiment on Op HERRICK 18 in early 2013". The eventual number was 25 but I guess I could claim it was 50! http://www.merchant-taylors.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/mt1102_mt_autumn_issue_10-11.pdf

Mr Benn (talk) 23:01, 12 October 2019 (UTC)

Royal Yeomanry battle honours

Hi,

Many thanks for your most recent edits.

There are 40 battle honours in the list in the article: it is safe to specify that number?

As regards a citation for the 123 battle honours earned by the antecedent regiments, is this Dropbox link acceptable? https://www.dropbox.com/s/rvnqumeusfuhq2l/20080523%20Request%20for%20RY%20Guidon.doc?dl=0

You're making me think that the best way round the citations issue would be to write a book and then cite it liberally!

Conn

Mr Benn (talk) 19:37, 13 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi - The 40 battle honours in the list in the article are not currently properly sourced so I don't think you can specify that number based solely on the list. While a drop box would not normally be acceptable, I think the letter contained in it looks sufficiently official that you could use it (to support both the 40 selected honours and the full 123 honours). I look forward to buying your book! Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 19:42, 13 October 2019 (UTC)

Royal Yeomanry lineage

Hi,

I'm wondering if you can help with this slightly technical query.

The Lineage table is missing one set of regimental antecedents, those whose title B Squadron bears. They should go into the line below the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry. The immediate antecedents were the Staffordshire Yeomanry and the Queen's Own Warwickshire and Worcestershire Yeomanry. The QOWWY in turn was the progeny of the Warwickshire Yeomanry and the Queen's Own Worcestershire Yeomanry.

Also, the line for the Westminster Dragoons is incorrect. It should only show the Berkshire Yeomanry and 2nd County of London Yeomanry (Westminster Dragoons) as antecedents. The later stuff to the left of those two is just post-1967 renaming of the squadron.

Is there any guidance or method on how to fix these?

Many thanks,

Conn

Mr Benn (talk) 12:40, 14 October 2019 (UTC)

I will take a look over the next few days and see if I can fix this. It is usually a process of trial and error! Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 13:38, 14 October 2019 (UTC)

ORBAT of 1st (UK) Division

Hi again,

I noticed that the wire diagram showing the ORBAT of 1(UK)Div on the page List of units and formations of the British Army 2019 is incorrect.

Structure of 1st (UK) Division under Army 2020 Refine (click image to enlarge)

There has been some re-jigging of units since the diagram was produced. 1R IRISH and 3PWRR have left 7th Inf Bde and 1 RIFLES and 6 RIFLES have joined it; this is correctly shown in the text on that page.

I don't know the position so far as the other brigades in the Div are concerned. The Div has also been augmented with several CS and CSS brigades in order to make it self-sustaining and deployable as a division. Again, these are listed in the text but the image does not show the changes.

Is it possible to notify whoever produced the diagram and ask them to amend it?

Hi - It was User:Noclador. I will copy to his talk page. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 16:17, 14 October 2019 (UTC)
Hello, I uploaded the new graphic already on 10 August 2019 and added it to the article: 1st (United Kingdom) Division#Current formation. I did not add the graphic to the article List of units and formations of the British Army 2019, because I saw there were still some uncertainties about units and formations under 1st UK Division and I did not feel that at this stage the graphic was correct enough to add to that detailed article. I also created graphics for 3rd and 6th division on 10 August. Feel free to add them and if there are changes that need to be made: please let me know on my talkpage. noclador (talk) 16:38, 14 October 2019 (UTC)
Many thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 16:40, 14 October 2019 (UTC)

Many thanks User:Noclador for your rapid response and for your hard work. The 1st (United Kingdom) Division#Current formation graphic is already out of date so far as 7X is concerned - 3 PWRR has now left the brigade. Otherwise it is correct for that Bde. I’m not brave enough to risk making my own changes to your graphic!

Mary Ann Mansel page history

Hi Dormskirk. I'm just trying to work out what happened with the history of the content now at Mary Ann Mansel. It looks like you moved the page from User:Arbil44/sandbox to User:Mary Ann Mansel by mistake, but then rather than moving it again, manually copied the content to Mary Ann Mansel. Is that correct? If so, I think we might need to do a history merge so that the page history is complete. Cordless Larry (talk) 19:39, 28 October 2019 (UTC)

Yes. That's exactly what I did - apologies. If you can do a history merge that would be great. Thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 19:44, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
Done! Cordless Larry (talk) 07:36, 29 October 2019 (UTC)
Many thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 08:02, 29 October 2019 (UTC)
Dormskirk - I'm in trouble again - this time on my User page. Please will you get me out of the mess I am in through trying to do it myself? Arbil44 (talk) 09:40, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
Done. Great pic! Dormskirk (talk) 09:57, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
Haha! There are two pics and I wanted them both at the very bottom. The text is now corrupted! Also, I have uploaded 7 images for the Solomon Islands page, which I wanted a new section for - "Solomon Islands artefacts" but this experience has unnerved me, so, is your shining armour still available to help me there? I managed to upload one image there so thought I was invincible...:-( Arbil44 (talk) 10:03, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
The more I fiddle the worse it gets. Now it is not too bad except that the userboxes are two x two rather than in rows of 3 and I just cannot get it right again. If you could put the pics right at the very bottom, then things might be OK! Except, now I have lost the userbox "native English speaker" Can you put it back to how it was before you dealt with the picture - and then put the pictures at the bottom? My huge apologies, but I really have tried to get this right.Arbil44 (talk) 10:55, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
Pics now inserted. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 11:18, 6 November 2019 (UTC)

Thank you Dormskirk. Unfortunately my "native English speaker" userbox (the first one) has disappeared and the boxes are now 2 x 2 instead of how they were - 3 x 3. So very sorry indeed for all the trouble I am causing. I will be back in hospital tomorrow, so you'll be spared more! Arbil44 (talk) 11:23, 6 November 2019 (UTC)

As requested I have reverted to the position before the pics were added and I have re-added the pictures. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 11:31, 6 November 2019 (UTC)

Thank you once more - unfortunately when I refresh the page it looks a terrible mess - why would that be? And could you reinsert native English speaker? That has gone and at the top of the page - first thing - is "Mary Ann Mansel"....Oh dear, you must truly hate me by now :-( Arbil44 (talk) 11:36, 6 November 2019 (UTC)

How the page looks will depend on the screen width of the monitor you are using. You may want to use fewer userboxes (I only have 5 on my page). I have reinserted native English speaker and removed "Mary Ann Mansel". Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 11:47, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
If you think I have a lot - take a look at Cinderella157!! I had mine 3 x 3, so is it at all possible to restore that? I have no idea how I got it right before - it took me about 50 attempts - could you get that one aspect back for me please, then I will get out of your hair. Arbil44 (talk) 11:51, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
I have boxed them in a bit. I hope that helps. Dormskirk (talk) 12:16, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
It is better, but not how I had it - and I've lost the one about being a former RN member - is it not possible to have it back as I had it please? I am truly sorry Dormskirk, but it took me several hours to get it how I wanted it. Can you find my edit because I know I will be unable to do so? Arbil44 (talk) 12:25, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
I have restored to last position immediately prior to adding the pictures, Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 12:34, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
I wish you had Dormskirk, but the boxes are bigger than they were and I have lost the one about being in the RN, which I had hoped would tie in with the photograph. What has gone wrong, I wish I knew. I will never dare approach you ever again, now, sadly.Arbil44 (talk) 12:41, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
It is the version from 9.36 this morning (immediately prior to me touching it). The RN userbox is still there. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 12:45, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
Unfortunately, viewed on my laptop there are many problems now - Mary Ann is back - the images are only my links - the userboxes are 2 x 2 again and I've had to put a larger gap in to prevent the text being really messed up. I honestly wish I knew how to get this right again - should I ask Cordless Larry if he can help? Please don't take this as any kind of criticism, because I know you have always worked tirelessly to help me. Arbil44 (talk) 12:56, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
You should have the same view as you had before if you are using the same laptop. (I am using a fixed desktop with a widescreen so I will get an entirely different view to you). I suggest that you play around with the userboxes so they look right from your perspective. You can then ask me to restore the two pictures again - but that action may in itself disturb the userboxes. Best wishes.Dormskirk (talk) 13:03, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
Sending you a virtual hug Dormskirk! It's perfect now. Thank you so much. Arbil44 (talk) 16:38, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
Great. I am glad you like it! Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 16:39, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
I thought I would be able to report success here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solomon_Islands#Music but while I've managed to put the 7 images there and labelled them, they have gone into the margin rather than stay within "Artefacts". Might you be prepared to move them under the heading for me please Dormskirk? Arbil44 (talk) 23:15, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
I have created the gallery and inserted the pics there. I am not sure of any other way to do it. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 23:22, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
It's perfect Dormskirk - exactly what I was trying to achieve! I'm still quite proud of myself all the same! Hope you liked my image under sanitation - did you see it? Arbil44 (talk) 23:32, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
Yes, very good! Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 23:34, 6 November 2019 (UTC)

It's that dreadful bad penny again Dormskirk! I'd do this myself, since I now know how, but I'm really worried that it might be too big and wreck your beautiful work on my User page. If you think you could fit it in (between the other two images), would you do so? Or below, if you don't think it will look too odd? File:My research trip to America 13-31 May 2019.png|thumb|My research trip to America 13-31 May 2019 Thank you for all your help, but I do truly believe I am finished here now. Arbil44 (talk) 00:49, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

Done. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 01:45, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
Thank you so much - that's it - just two edits to do come December then you will be free of me! Arbil44 (talk) 01:48, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
It seriously pains me to have to ask for help again Dormskirk...but I've just uploaded a family video taken in Bahrain in 1982 https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:1982_-_VIDEO_Bahrain_9_April_1982.webm#Summary but I must have done something wrong because it says it isn't licenced, but it belongs to me, so what can the problem be? If you are able to sort this out, then it belongs on my User page, right after the Solomon Islands one. But they are all gathering in the margin and I don't know how to space them one after the other - 3 across. I also don't like the labels on the two images you have already seen. The first needs to be "1971 - HMS Warrior, Northwood" and the second "2019 - At Sea", I tried to rename the original uploaded files, but that didn't work, so I even applied for those two images to be deleted, so I could start again with better captions. So much so was I trying not to bother you again, but I have to come running back to you once more! Could you dust off your shining armour once more please?! Arbil44 (talk) 15:14, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for sorting the video out for me so quickly Dormskirk - but what's all this about a visit there?! I lived there for four years when my husband was the NZ Ambassador! Arbil44 (talk) 15:40, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
Now sorted. And I have tweaked the wording on the video. I have amended the other captions as you requested. I suggest you withdraw the deletion requests so you do not need to go through all the anguish again! Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 15:46, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
There was an edit clash, so I didn't catch you in time. You are on your speedy steed today, that's for sure, but what happened to my original caption for the video - I thought that would still be there? "My daughter's first birthday in Bahrain, with her family about her. 9 April 1982". Yes, I will cancel the deletion request now. Why has Wikipedia become so addictive all of a sudden?! No problem at all. I am happy to have been of help! Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 16:16, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
Just to say Happy New Year and that my gratitude to you for the endless help you have given me is hard to put into words. I couldn't possibly have managed without your willingness to step in and get me out of a mess! You have been a friend here, in a rather friendless and sterile environment. Happy New Year to you too. It has been a pleasure working with you. Many thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 12:47, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

Just when I think it is all over, I find something else (accidentally, when I was looking for something quite different). Anyway, there is a downloadable pdf which I don't know how to link to! Details are on the Asgill edit page. I have contacted Claire, since I feel sure she'll be interested in the latest developments, but her thesis is still interesting! Done. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 13:00, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

Thomas Cook Airlines

Just a quick enquiry: If Thomas Cook Airlines UK Limited merged with MyTravel Airways Limited, because the newly formed business: Thomas Cook Airlines Limited carried the old MyTravel Airways and Airtours as seen on the Companies House, should a page be made for the defunct, former Thomas Cook Airlines UK, operating between 2003 and 2007? Many Thanks, AL7375 (Airline7375 (talk) 22:01, 1 November 2019 (UTC))

Irish names

Hiya. Please don't "invent" Irish names for things. Per the relevant guidelines on the Manual of Style for Ireland-related articles, we should only add and use Irish names which are commonly used outside of the project. Several of the OR terms that you have "created" for some of those courthouses were entirely incorrect (like Green Street Courthouse, which presumed that "green" referred to the colour, when it clearly doesn't). And, regardless of whether they are grammatically or factually correct, it should never be the case that a term exists only on Wikipedia. And nowhere else in the world. That is the very definition of original research. And, frankly, I am very surprised to be finding myself having to point that out to an otherwise seasoned editor. Please consider self-reverting any examples that were not on my radar/watchlist. Thanks. Guliolopez (talk) 00:55, 9 November 2019 (UTC)

Some of us try very hard to improve wikipedia and some of us try to reflect local sensitivities. I am sure you are absolutely right and I appreciate you pointing this out to me. But I am not sure you need to express "surprise" when an editor makes a genuine mistake. Wikipedia is not supposed to be a performance assessment. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 01:03, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
Pinging Guliolopez, as requested I have self-reverted the Irish language version of the names of all courthouses following your objections and criticism. I have not done the same for County Halls where the use of "Áras an Chontae" seems to be widespread practice. If you have criticisms of my work on that front as well, please let me know. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 08:52, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
Hiya.
RE: Criticism. While my surprise was genuine, my note wasn't intended as criticism. Apologies if I miscommunicated to the extent that the former was misrepresented as the latter.
RE: Court-houses. Thanks for making those changes. You may have noted that I have retained (or restored) some labels. Where reliable sources seem to be available.
RE: County-halls. Thanks. I have no concerns there. As you note, the Irish language names of these buildings are verifiably in commonuse. To the extent that there is no IMOS#Irish-language conventions issues.
Cheers. Guliolopez (talk) 20:50, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
Hi - Many thanks for that. Much appreciated. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 20:52, 9 November 2019 (UTC)

Airtours Group PLC rebranding and proposing a merger of pages between MyTravel Group and Airtours

Am I correct in saying that Airtours was only rebranded to MyTravel and therefore the pages should both be merged together. They were the same company just with a different name until 2007, and therefore have the same history. I can take data from Airtours to the MyTravel page, if you are able to conduct a Speedy Deletion of Airtours. (Airline7375 (talk) 16:53, 1 December 2019 (UTC))

HSE as an independent source

Heya, you undid my revisions claiming that cuh.hse.ie isn't a good independent reliable source. While I accept it isn't independent, HSE websites are reliable (comparable to NHS websites) as it is the national government health service for Ireland. If a hse.ie website claims CUH to be the largest hospital in Ireland, seeing as the HSE manages all hospitals, isn't it fair to say they could be right? — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiEditorINT (talkcontribs) 08:46, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi - A key feature of wikipedia is that it is independent and does not rely on what official authorities claim. It could be right but we should not rely on claims by the Irish Government (any more than the British or US Government). There is also the issue of measurement. Is it the largest by bed numbers, patient numbers, floorspace or something else? Just my view. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 09:08, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

Thomas Cook

Hi Dormskirk, I know we haven't seen eye to eye on the notability of Thomas Cook Tour Operations in the UK. I have moved it to a draft and done significant edits to prove its notability. It is not yet finished but I would just like you to have a look and see what you think. Draft:Thomas Cook Tour Operations Many Thanks, Josh (Airline7375) (Airline7375 (talk) 16:44, 30 December 2019 (UTC))

Hi - I think it is well-written and well-sourced. My only issue (which I apply to all subsidiaries of companies) is whether it is really notable in its own right? Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 16:52, 30 December 2019 (UTC)

I believe it does have strong notability, are you okay with me publishing it now I have edited it do its full significant content, hope you had a nice Christmas. (Airline7375 (talk) 17:52, 30 December 2019 (UTC))

I would still question its notability. Simplifying it, all the article says is that in 1999 some intra-group transfers took place and in 2002 an internal re-organisation and re-branding took place. The rest is already covered in the group article. I know I am being a pain, but I am still not convinced. And I think others will take the same line. Best wishes. Clarification

Hi, HNY.

Is Fourth Sea Lord which stated is today's Chief of Materiel (Fleet)/Chief of Fleet Support the same as Chief of Materiel (Ships)? Because if so, then the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_Sea_Lord#Chiefs_of_Materiel_(Fleet)/Chief_of_Fleet_(Support)_2007_%E2%80%93_present should be expanded to incude current Chief of Materiel (Ships) Vice Admiral Chris Gardner. Thanks.

BlueD954 (talk) 13:47, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi - I am not sure to be honest. I suspect the term Fourth Sea Lord has fallen out of use. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 13:51, 2 January 2020 (UTC)
I mean can I add Gardner/Chief of Materiel Ships to the Fourth Sea Lord list? Is is wrong or right? BlueD954 (talk) 14:51, 2 January 2020 (UTC)
I think you could. But I am not an expert on this stuff. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 16:13, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

Major General Cyril Lloyd

Dormskirk, would this person be considered notable? [2]? There appears to be something missing from the biography though - he was a very senior officer in military intelligence in WWII, but unless I am missing something obvious, there appears to be no mention of this. Where would that information be found - Army Lists - Opera hat seems to have ready access to them? If you think him notable (post war he was the Director General of the City and Guilds of London Institute) would you be prepared to do a page for him? If so, I can provide 2 pictures of him and 1 of his wife, and, possibly, a short video too. He was my godfather and my father's maths teacher! Arbil44 (talk) 03:15, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi - As a major-general he would be considered notable by virtue of his rank. He was involved in military survey (map making) which is an important area of military information gathering. I would certainly be prepared to start an article when I have time. Perhaps you could then develop it as you see fit. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 08:26, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks Dormskirk. Unlike other pages you have started for me I don't think I'd be able to expand this one. All my recollections and knowledge of him are based on him being the most fascinating, funny and cuddly 'Uncle Cyril', which isn't going to be what Wikipedia wants! I know nothing about his military or civilian working life. I'll upload those three images (and maybe video, but I have to cut some off first) so that they are there for you to position. Are you saying that his 'intelligence' work was cartography? And there was me thinking he had been a sort of James Bond character - how disappointing! Arbil44 (talk) 09:49, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
That's fine. I suspect that "cartography" underplays the importance of the activity. The map is the end product of a lot of challenging and perhaps dangerous information gathering and having a good map will subsequently determine the success of subsequent military operations. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 10:07, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
Ah, that's restored my faith in my beliefs! Arbil44 (talk) 10:16, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
Two images for Major General Cyril Lloyd and one for Marjorie Lloyd have been uploaded. I'll do the video later. Arbil44 (talk) 10:31, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
Great. Thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 11:51, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
Well, blow me down with a feather - I had no idea! [3]

[4] [5] [6] [7] I didn’t know what date to put on the uniformed image I uploaded. I stabbed a guess at 1941. Maybe you will have a better guess because he is clearly much younger than I thought. Here is a much better picture though – maybe use mine too – but this is better: [8] [9] [10] A pdf: crisis of command 1941-1940 - ANU Open Research Arbil44 (talk) 17:36, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

I have had a go at it: see Cyril Lloyd (British Army officer). Please feel free to work on it. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 20:00, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
Thank you Dormskirk. I think it looks really good and I am so sad that I knew none of that when he was alive. I'd love to sit and talk to him if only I could. Just a couple of things. Is it possible to use the picture of him which is at the NPG - linked above? That image is so much better. I know someone there if it is a question of getting copyright. Please tell me. Also, any chance of the Union Jack and British army icons? Otherwise, I will perhaps add my images and possibly video, except I cannot get the video to upload. Will work on it. Arbil44 (talk) 22:03, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
It may be possible to use the NPG picture. As you know I am not a copyright expert and would suggest you ask an editor who is. I have added the icons although, as you know, they are increasing frowned upon and may get removed. I am glad you like the article. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 22:38, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
I'll get in touch with the NPG to request permission. I'm getting nowhere, elsewhere, with copyright queries, but I will contact the NPG. Meanwhile, I go a couple of weeks without editing and I've lost whatever small abilities I managed earlier. I wonder, could you...?! Arbil44 (talk) 23:02, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

Done. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 00:00, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
Damn, of course, I forgot to 'close' the gallery. It's alarming how quickly I forget what to do. I haven't got the naming on Marjorie's picture right either - the only bit I want to show is this: "Cyril’s wife, Marjorie (1916-23.07.2008), his ATS Driver in WWII". I've written to the NPG. Arbil44 (talk) 00:07, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
Per WP:SURNAME he should be referred to by his surname after the first mention, the date should be in wikipedia format and the British terminology is "Second World War". I have fixed it. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 00:18, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the T.E. Lawrence work!

Impressive stuff, and every one an improvement. I get a spasm of TEL-editing energy every year or two and am so impressed by your command of sources.

BTW, I have a minor project gestating to insert into the entry a discussion of the accusations raised against Lawrence in Aldington's "Biographical Inquiry" and subsequent consideration of what Aldington got right and wrong. Obviously notable since multiple books have been written about the controversy. This came to mind because I noticed you (correctly) removed an unsourced passage about Lawrence declining a decoration. Aldington isn't right on everything, but Lawrence was unreliable on decorations.

Great. Many thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 07:58, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

Mike Coupe

Dear Dormskirk,

My name is Sophie and I work in the communications team at Sainsbury’s.

I’m getting in touch as I’ve seen you’ve taken an active interest in the Sainsbury’s Wikipedia page and so I wanted to reach out to see if you would consider looking at Mike Coupe’s, the current CEO’s, page.

I’m aware of Wikipedia’s COI rules, and so I wanted to ask for some help in reviewing this page as it could do with being fleshed out a bit and it appears that the Controversies section is out of balance compared to the rest of the entry’s content. I wanted to make some suggestions both to beef up the biographical sections, correct some factual errors, improve citations and slightly reduce the controversies section so that the entry has better overall balance. I'd be incredibly grateful if you could please review the entry and consider my suggestions.

I have listed some suggested changes to the entry and have included citations in case that’s helpful. Also, apologies in advance for any errors in formatting or syntax - I don't edit and I’m new to Wikipedia so I’m still learning.

1. To flesh out Mike’s biographical details, I suggest adding the following to the Career section, Sainsbury’s sub-section, which outlines some key milestones in Mike’s career:

  • ‘Mike Coupe was appointed CEO of Sainsbury’s in 2014. Soon after his appointment he announced a strategic review that aimed to address the challenges caused by a changing retail market.’ Sources for this include these articles in The Mirror, the Telegraph and International Business Times.
  • ‘In 2016 he spearheaded the takeover of Home Retail Group which included Argos and Habitat.’ Sources here in the Financial Times and The Guardian.
  • ‘In March 2018 he announced new industry-leading pay for colleagues.’ Sources in the Independent and in the Mirror.
  • ‘More recently, Coupe has overseen digital transformation and investment at Sainsbury’s, including the introduction of the UK’s first till-free store and the digitisation of Nectar through a new app and website.’ Sources for both of these initiatives are in the Mail on Sunday, City A.M. and The Mirror.

2. The Controversies section contains some wording that doesn’t appear to be objective and is in some instances factually incorrect. Simply removing some of this language would make the entry more strictly factual and reduce the proportion relating to this single controversy. The copy that reads ‘It was also reported that Coupe would make over six hundred thousand pounds from the merger thus reinforcing the beliefs of many that CEO pay is unfairly high in contrast to large numbers of workers below them that earn significantly lower wages’ is factually incorrect and has no citation. Therefore, I’d suggest removing everything from 'This angered…’ through to ‘…significantly lower wages.' In its place, I suggest inserting the following: ‘The video was widely shared and critiqued’, which feels more neutral.

3. The final sentence of the Controversies section is factually inaccurate and isn’t supported by the citation. We would suggest replacing it with: ‘In 2019 he was criticised for reducing the amount traditionally paid towards a Christmas party for Argos colleagues, bringing it in line with money paid towards the Sainsbury’s colleagues’ Christmas party.’

4. Within the Career section there is a missing citation for the following statement: ‘He previously worked with, and at one point worked above Justin King at Asda.’ Please can I request that this be removed?

I would really appreciate any support you can provide in rebalancing this page and I hope it comes across clearly that these are just suggestions, to try to make the entry more accurate and balanced. Please let me know if you have any questions. Many thanks. SPraill (talk) 14:42, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

All done. I have tweaked the wording in some places. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 15:51, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

Albert Dock

Hi Dormskirk, your edit to Albert Dock brought up an interesting question - is there a primary topic? If there isn't one, then the disambiguation page needs to be moved to the base name. I sent Albert Dock to WP:XFD because I think that this is the type of decision that needs discussion and, if the DAB page needs to be moved to the base name, it requires an admin or page mover (or something). Leschnei (talk) 12:46, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

Thanks! --Bbarmadillo (talk) 17:26, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi - This article looks very well written. My only issue with it would be whether it meets the requirements on notability given that the business is quite small by wikipedia standards. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 17:43, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. Well, it is one of the largest chains of clinics of this kind in the UK. --Bbarmadillo (talk) 18:12, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
Fair enough. And the article does make that point already. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 19:04, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Wren Kitchens

Dear Dormskirk,

I work in the communications team for Wren Kitchens. I’m getting in touch to request your help on tidying up our Wikipedia article.

Last week you rejected a request for deletion of the Wren Kitchens article. Since 2017, the user who requested the deletion has repeatedly added to the Controversy section (Revision 804975588, Revision 804976400 ) and has blatantly reformatted the section in an unconventional way, in order to give it more prominence (Revision 806660659Revision 806660832).

We feel the controversy section has undue weight in its current state, and most of the references lead to broken links:

In 2015, Wren Kitchens was investigated by BBC Watchdog for providing customers with poor customer service. The investigation found that the company had provided partial orders to customers and was extremely slow to rectify issues. The firm responded by stating that they are heavily investing in improving their customer service department. Cited reference

  • This goes to a broken link, so should not be used. There have been over 1,000 episodes of Watchdog, each reviewing multiple companies, so as you can imagine, many major UK retailers, banks, and consumer facing companies have featured on the programme. A one-off cameo appearance should not be controversial enough to go on a company’s Wikipedia article.
I think this should remain and have updated the link. Dormskirk (talk) 14:59, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

In Spring 2016, the firm was one of 12 kitchen brands researched by the consumer association Which?. WrenLiving came second from last out of the 12 kitchen companies assessed. Cited reference

  • This is an annual report from 2016. They have had 3 more reports since, so is out of date. But where is the controversy on Homebase’s Wikipedia article, saying they came last out of 12 companies? Where is the controversy on B&Q’s Wikipedia article, saying they came third from last? Where is the controversy on the other 11 kitchen brands’ articles? Is this really notable enough to go down as a Wren Kitchens Controversy?
I think this should remain. Dormskirk (talk) 14:59, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

In November 2016, Wren Kitchens said it would honour any quote provided by Betta Living when the rival kitchen retailer went into administration "in order to maintain the public’s trust in the UK kitchen market". Cited reference 1 The firm's "aggressive expansion" had been previous cited by The Times Cited reference 2 as the reason for the collapse of HomeForm Group (parent company of Möben Kitchens & Sharps Bedrooms). Wren subsequently offered to protect the deposits of customers affected by the collapse of the group. Cited reference 3

  • Not controversial, not even a negative statement about Wren Kitchens here. But are these notable enough to have a place on a Wikipedia article? The stories are from 2016 and 2011, with the second source now being a broken link.
Agreed and removed. Dormskirk (talk) 14:59, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

In March 2017 the firm was fined £12,000 after pleading guilty to breaking the Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, Regulation 9 and the European Communities Act 1972 Section 2(2), by misleading customers on kitchen pricing. Cited reference 1, Cited reference 2

  • This is incorrect. Wren Kitchens was fined in March 2016; not March 2017. Although the Wren Kitchens article did originally cite the date as March 2016 Revision 806622882 ), on 23rd October 2017, the disruptive editor changed this date to March 2017 to make it seem like a more recent article (Revision 806660659).

Besides this vandalism, it’s an irrelevant, completely uncontroversial and un-noteworthy £12,000 fine due to one point of sale mistake in 2014, advertising the price of a unit for £1,894 instead of £2,008. Not notable enough to belong on a company’s Wikipedia article.

I have corrected the date. Dormskirk (talk) 14:59, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

In August 2017, Which? undertook an investigation against companies within the kitchen industry to understand the differences in quote prices. The investigation found that quotes between stores could vary, with one discounted quote being 11% cheaper for the same kitchen at different stores. However, pre-sale/discount quotes were mostly identical. Cited reference

  • This point was added by the same disruptive user, referencing an article which mentions a number of kitchen companies, including Magnet Kitchens and B&Q who had higher variances in quotes than Wren Kitchens. Yet there is no mention of this 'controversy' on the Magnet or B&Q Wikipedia articles. So why does the Wren Kitchens article mention this? Is it really notable enough to appear here? If so, should this controversy be added to the Magnet and B&Q articles as well?
Agreed and removed. Dormskirk (talk) 14:59, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

In October, 2017, the firm featured on the television show Rip Off Britain. Cited reference

  • The Rip-Off Britain reference links to a page which shows Harveys and Bensons for Beds, with no mention of Wren Kitchens. I cannot find any source to show that Wren Kitchens even featured on Rip Off Britain. And to the same point as the Watchdog controversy, it’s not controversial and is not notable enough to warrant a place on Wikipedia.
Agreed and removed. Dormskirk (talk) 14:59, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

I would really appreciate your help in this matter. Thank you.

Hi - Please see my comments above. This should really have been posted on the article talk page rather than here. Dormskirk (talk) 14:59, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for contributing to this article. Apologies - I'm inexperienced with editing Wikipedia. In the future, I'll post on the article's talk page. (talk) 15:30, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

reFill

Hi, I notice you use reFill. This is a useful tool but sometimes introduces errors, most frequently inserting the unsupported parameter "|deadurl=y" instead of "|url-status=dead", such as here and here. I would ask you to preview your edits and resolve any issues before submitting. Thanks. --John B123 (talk) 23:58, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

OK. I will bear in mind. Thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 00:00, 6 February 2020 (UTC)

Deputy Director for Commonwealth Integration, Defense Intelligence Agency

AVM Sean Corbett CB MBE was appointed to this new post after being ACAS Intelligence (or whatever the title is now, the note was "the RAF's senior intelligence officer" suppose he might have been a one-star). He's now retired [11] (see also http:// --> dgi.wbresearch.com/speakers/sean-corbett (blacklisted link), one-star service) but as a two-star he was notable and this post's creation puts him in line with the current trend of U.S. naval, army and poss other formations (C2F, III Corps) having foreign deputy commanders - it is a growing thing. He retired about two years ago and the successor is a notably hard-charging Kiwi officer, John Howard, who I can write up the bio on. Could you pull something together? Cheers Buckshot06 (talk) 03:11, 8 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi - Now done. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 11:17, 8 February 2020 (UTC)

SAS pop culture

Hi.. you just reverted my edit on Special Air Service page. the requirement to add on that section are as follows:
"ONLY ADD ENTRIES THAT HAVE THEIR OWN LINKED ARTICLE (BLUE) OR HAVE AN ATTACHED REF (RED). ONLY ADD CONTENT THAT COMPLIES WITH WP:MILPOP"
I believe my edit complies with that requirement as it has attached reference and it didnt say:
"ONLY ADD ENTRIES THAT HAVE THEIR OWN LINKED ARTICLE AND HAVE AN ATTACHED REF. ONLY ADD CONTENT THAT COMPLIES WITH WP:MILPOP". Ckfasdf (talk) 08:54, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

OK. Thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 09:20, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

"Negotiations"

Hello, Dormskirk, I don't see your discussion with Arbil44 about adding the Asgill Affair to the George Washington article as proper Wikipedia etiquette. I specifically object to the words banditi and bigoted, but the lengthy discussions themselves seem inappropriate, even if they were couched in the best possible wording, because it makes the two of you appear to be plotting against consensus. Do I misunderstand? YoPienso (talk) 00:15, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

I can assure you that I am trying to reach consensus. Arbil44 has worked extremely hard on uncovering these facts over many years. And I have been supporting her on the Asgill article. Let's work together towards resolving this. Dormskirk (talk) 00:28, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
Yopienso certainly does misunderstand. I was under personal attack (even for being "English" and living in "England") and so stepped in to assist me. He, unlike Yopienso, understands that while I am exceedingly authoritative on all matters relating to Asgill, I am old, IT illiterate, and very much at the end of my rope with trying to ensure wikipedia is the "truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth" - ironically Yopienso's very own words on their userpage! Dormskirk is a vastly experienced and extremely well liked editor here. I suggest you look at his userpage. Arbil44 (talk) 11:38, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
Arbil44 - Very much appreciated. Many thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 12:12, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
To both of you: I did check both of your user and talk pages.
Arbil44, I'm about 10 years your junior and went through similar, though less intense, frustration when I started to edit. Fortunately, a more experienced editor taught me the ropes. I regret that Dormskirk seems to be trying his best to help you not by introducing you to how things are done here, but by acting as a liaison between you and everyone else. and so abetting your sense of being an outsider and being attacked. Please join us!
Dormskirk, you could greatly help Arbil44 by clueing her in on Wikipedia policies and culture. She doesn't understand that here a "crusade"--as the Abels laudingly put it--isn't acceptable. Neither does she undertand that there's no hurry. Neither does she understand that suggestions aren't attacks. Dormskirk, you could best help Arbil44 but asking her take a breath and then instructing her on generalities; assistance with Asgill would come after that. You would thus spare her from her present needless agony AND HER FRUSTRATED SHOUTING.
The basic policy to understand here is WP:NPOV and, more specifically, WP:ADVOCACY, particularly the section Defences. Most urgently, I recommend a perusal of Righting great wrongs and Seeing editing as being about taking sides.
Best wishes to you both, YoPienso (talk) 17:47, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

Ten years makes an enormous difference. Most of my friends don't even have computers. I am terrified of the IT here. Yes, true - I even start shaking and hyper-venting. Unbelievable isn't it. Dormskirk has helped me just in the way I wanted and appreciated. I thought I had left Wikipedia permanently, for ever, never to return several days ago, but as you say, this is going to go on for ever and a day. As soon as it is done you will not see sight nor sound of me ever again. That will please both you and me. Dormskirk is far too nice a person to have to put up with any more of this. End it. Team Asgill

3 no shows at the hospital resulted in VIP treatment for me! Procedure rushed through and I’m now home. I’m back on t-shirts again, because I may not be here much longer. I do not know how to negotiate with people who do not know the difference between ‘conditional’ and ‘unconditional’ – the very heart of the matter. I’ve been bashing my head against a brick wall and I’ve put myself on the line, and, in real life, my entire existence has gone to pot and my family is now worried about me. I am dealing with people who not only know nothing, but now I discover that they understand nothing either. And I am blamed for the length of the thread, because I keep repeating myself. I may have gone as soon as I can post something from Mike Abel, so I need to sort t-shirts for you and Cordless Larry. I don’t care if you want one or not; you can use it to clean the car! But I want to send you both something to remember me by – and all that we have gone through as “Team Asgill”! (Remember the College of Arms Cordless Larry)?! (And remember the GW thread Dormskirk)!! My daughter has a plan which may work! She says I need an online provider – one I can speak to on the phone – pay them for 4 t-shirts and tell them that two of the recipients will contact them separately regarding colour, size, name and address. All very clandestine, but it might work. But if I’m no longer here I will not be able to set it up. I just want you to know that I am going to miss you so much. You have become part of my daily life and I don’t know how I will fill the gap you will leave behind! You and Cordless Larry have been my lifeguards and I wouldn’t have been saved without you both. Please ping CL so he sees this too. Timothy Blue’s post is the last straw and I will be sending it to Mike in full. Anne (talk) 13:00, 17 February 2020 (UTC)

Anne - Many thanks for this. Please, please, please focus entirely on your own health and stop worrying about Washington, t-shirts or anything else! And I will get back to my work! Very best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 13:43, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
Dormskirk, I'm having what will probably be my last conversation on wikipedia on the Charles Asgill talk page - until final edits on that page are resolved. It would be so nice if you were part of that conversation; I'm sure you would have some valuable input.Anne (talk) 17:02, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
Hi - I have been watching it. But there are some real experts looking at it at the moment, including yourself, and I really have nothing useful to add to the debate at the moment. It looks as if Cordless Larry is doing a good job. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 17:07, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
Well, please at least say goodbye before I've gone. Anne (talk) 17:10, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
It has been great working with you so best of luck if you really are going! Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 17:14, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
I get the irony of "really are"! - but my sap is now well and truly sapped. Pop into that conversation when you can see the closing chapter in sight (or before if you feel like it, of course). You have been a mega part of my 'good' wikipedia experience. Anne (talk) 17:26, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
That's kind - I will continue to keep an eye on it. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 17:37, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
