Where do you live. I also believe that India is becoming more corrupt. In the North,Sharuk khan,Amitab and Aishwarya Rai are Gods. In the South,Kamal Hassan and Rajini are Gods. When they die they will be worshipped like Gandhi(AT least he did something useful).

Do you have a hard time being a vegetarian.I cant have a meal without meat. Do you know that jains aint supposed to eat seeds(you are destroying life)they have to throw it on sand.
Strict jains close their mouth at all times and carry a broom on the road to sweep away insects which may be trampled.
Some even dont brush because you are killing germs. Anyway, jains dont believe in haircuts, they pull everything out in case there are bugs. Batzarro 17:10, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
Buddhism
editTrust me,I ve moved with a few Jains. Mouth covering and the seed thing is practiced. The broom thing yes. I doubt the not brushing and hair pulling are practiced. Have you tried buddhism? Batzarro 17:19, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
What do your parents say about your religion?
OK sorry about the formalities,I am a Hindu but I have read about many other religions from sufism to Bahai. Jainism is practiced mainly in the west of India.
Expand Ghee
editDear Dot Shell:
I am glad that you have joined the Wikipedians! Please feel free to add material to the Ghee article, such as the additions that you proposed on Talk:Ghee under the heading Expand. That is what Wikipedians do, and there is no need to obtain "permission."
Also, it would be helpful if you sign and date your remarks on Talk pages, even on your own User Talk page. That makes it easier for everyone to follow the discussion. The Welcome message on your Talk page gives you a "shortcut" for doing this.
Thanks, again, for your contributions to Wikipedia and for joining us!

Welcome to Esperanza!
editWelcome, DotShell, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.
Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. Redwolf24 runs the spam to keep members up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.
In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.
I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of FireFox, Flcelloguy, Titoxd, and Karmafist. The next set of elections will be in February, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.
If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!
Please do NOT add categories to userboxes
editI'm removing the categories from political and relgious userboxes because it's not acceptable to categorize users by their beliefs. Please see Jimbo's comments. He's gone so far as to ask users to remove these userboxes entirely. I'm only removing the aspect of userboxes that's most harmful. Again, please do NOT add categories back to the userboxes. Feel free to discuss your concerns at Wikipedia talk:Proposed policy on userboxes. Thanks. Carbonite | Talk 15:46, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Re: Userboxes
editThank you for supporting userboxes. I am requesting that you join UDUIW with one of the methods that I have outlined. Thank you. --Shell 17:37, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I created WP:UB to help organise userboxes, and I make my statements because I am against the censorship and generic template we are expected to follow as Wikipedians outline in the gven view. If we are not allowed free speech, and Wiki is turned into a unjust dictatorship, I feel many would not be prepared to be part of it. In my opinion we need POV amoungst editors (not in articles) in order to establish an accurate and well balanced article, and to keep the community thriving, otherwise Wikipedia will only destroy itself. I do however appologise, but I am not prepared to join UDUIW, I am to be neutral in my work, and not be associated with an aspect of not comprimising, I wish you good luck, and I will continue to support allowing people to state their individuality, and I fear it will soon reach the state where even a userpage is not acceptable. - Hi. I am writing an article about this for the Wikipedia Signpost. Could you please explain to me on my talk page(of course) why you are doing this!? Thank You
Template
editNo, I would like to join the group, I have no problem adding the template to my talk page. Even though I should be neutral, I agree. But just one question: Do you dissaprove of innapropriate userboxes that say mean things about particular groups of people? Thanks, WikieZach 23:08, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Gota.jpg
editThis image may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Gota.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 22:00, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

Ready?

Your sig
editI don't mean to be rude or pushy, but would you put a link to your user page in your sig? I have seen you sig several times and clicked to Esperanza on your sig and then went back into the history to find out who actualy said that. It's kind of irritating. Anyways, if you're not going to do that, you might want to bypass the redirect in your sig (it currently points at Wikipedia:Esperanza). Broken Segue 19:44, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
- Also, your "signature" does not really identify you. No one can discover that {graphic} Shell is DotShell. The base of any user's signature should be the user's username, linked. Adding a link to your talk page is very helpful (most experienced Wikipedians do it), but not required. The links to the graphic and to Wikipedia:Esperanza are misleading, and therefore frustrating to those who are trying to have a discussion with you. It would also be polite to respond to those who post messages on your talk page. Thanks, Finell (Talk) 01:36, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
- Here, Shell <e> 02:06, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, that is much better. However, anyone who accidentally, or mistakenly, clicks on the graphic is transported somewhere where he or she did not intend to go. Also, no one will understand what the <e> link is (email, perhaps, which some Wikipedians put in their signatures) until he or she clicks it; but perhaps that is intentional, as your way of causing more people to find out about Esperanza. Thanks for answering me and for paying attention to others' sentiments. Finell (Talk) 04:01, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
User:Jimbo, virama fix?
editI noticed you just added a virama to User:Jimbo Wales's Devanagari name. In modern Hindi (as opposed to Sanskrit written in Devanagari), isn't the Virama always dropped at the end of a word?
Thanks,

editYo - thanks for your compliments. I noticed your views on being a Jain and a Hindu. Lemme compliment you on your independence and candour - only becoz I believe that the search for God should completely exclude issues of personal and community identity, politics and nationalism in any form. Distinctions between religions do not serve our hope of finding God. Its about God, not us. Enjoy! Rama's Arrow 03:50, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
Another Esperanzial note...
editHi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".
The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.
Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

Jimbo Wales
editHi there. Thanks for putting my comments back up, but i took them back down. As you'll see if you go to my talk page, and then JDoorjam's, it's not that great an idea to make that sort of comment to 'Good old' Jimbo, especially with all his admin lap dogs around. I still believe in freespeech on wiki, and the continuation of userboxes, but i'd rather fight for them on the site. Once again, thanks for putting the comments back up (and that isn't sarcastic like putting good old jimbo is).
MySpace
editYou seem to be confusing several issues here. It's fine, within the limits set by policies such as WP:NOT, to include personal opinions on one's user page. However, creating a massive amount of pages in the official template namespace is not a good idea, for several reasons. First, templates exist for encyclopedic activities. Second, templatized userboxes actually discourage individuality and have been used to create a culture of polemical strife and divisiveness which is not good for the project as a whole. Those are what you may think of as the "official" reasons. In addition, and that may be just my own opinion, userboxes don't really say all that much about people. By looking at your user page I can tell, for example, that you like programming and cooking, but that's all, no further explanation. In the same space taken up by the userboxes, you could have explained what cuisine you prefer, how you got into programming, or if you see, as some people do, any connection between programming and cooking (both are creative activities that follow strict rules and procedures). Just like the section where you explain the Hindu/Jain classification, you could have other sections that could essentially say the same things as the boxes, but in a more detailed and personal way. There's nothing wrong with that, and there are plenty of examples of personalized user pages with few or no boxes. Jimbo's page is one example. One of my favorites is Ashley Pomeroy's user page. Cheers, --MarkSweep (call me collect) 00:36, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
Yes, Wikipedia is not MySpace. That's not just Jimbo's renegade opinion, it follows from WP:NOT, which is one of the core policies of Wikipedia. But: You can still have a fair amount of personal opinions, individual self-expression, Wikipedia-related essays and humor, etc. in your user space. Many people do, including Jimbo himself. It's just those templates and categories that are crossing over into the official project space which are discouraged. --MarkSweep (call me collect) 01:26, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
I was and am listening to you. You still seem to think it's an all-or-nothing proposition: either go all the way to becoming yet another social networking site, or delete all user content. That's not the case. User pages and individual content can have plenty of project-related uses. Lots of people have pictures on their user pages. There's even a Wikipedia:Facebook. People have posted Wikipedia-related essays, see Sjakkalle's page. There's nothing wrong with that at all (in moderation, subject to the usual rules, etc.). What's at stake is how project resources get used. If someone uploads their portrait, that's informative and project-related, as there are occasional face-to-face meetings, conferences, etc. If someone uploads a picture that's entirely unrelated to the project and which rubs people the wrong way, it will likely be deleted. It's a question of using common sense. --MarkSweep (call me collect) 01:44, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
Actually if you check the history of User:Jimbo Wales/Funny pictures (edit | [[Talk:User:Jimbo Wales/Funny pictures|talk]] | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) and the image description pages of the pictures there, you'll find that all of them were contributed by other people. --MarkSweep (call me collect) 02:00, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
Why are you so concerned with Jimbo's personal pages? Lots of people have similar pages. Many people post their Wikipedia-related profiles, explaining what defines them as Wikipedians, how they got involved with Wikipedia, their first edit, etc. There's nothing unusual about it. If you look at Wikipedia:user page, you'll see examples of what sort of content is encouraged on user pages. For another concrete example, check out Essjay's user page. --MarkSweep (call me collect) 02:15, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
Jimbo isn't really calling for any changes. There is no new philosophy here. The basic principles have long been established – see Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not – and remain unchanged. What has to change is the continuing violationg of these fundamental policies. It's the polemical messages that have to stop, since they are seriously ticking people off. Jimbo hasn't posted any polemical messages and has asked people to stop voluntarily. --MarkSweep (call me collect) 02:26, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
I'm just trying to explain to you how Wikipedia works. I saw a confused post on Jimbo's talk page, and I tried to help out. Feel free to ask if you have further questions. --MarkSweep (call me collect) 03:38, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

- If we retreated in World War II, well, the Nazis would've pwned part of Europe, but if we had also held our ground afterwards, then - no- we wouldn't be speaking German (although the French might've been). Would Jews have been incinerated in N. America? dunno - countries near Nazi territory had been known to do antisemitic stuff to please Germany. 204.52.215.107 03:25, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

editI read on the Esperanza page that you were considering leaving. I believe it is due to edit wars, etc. I do hope you'll reconsider this, and stay. I used to have trouble with edit wars too. However, if most of the stuff you write should stay on Wikipedia. Also, I always see if there was a point in the other person's changes, and that he may be correct and me wrong. A short Esperanzial update
editAs you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

A tag has been placed on Swad requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. – Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 02:37, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Chaiyyachaiyya.jpg
editThanks for uploading or contributing to File:Chaiyyachaiyya.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:43, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
