Orphaned non-free media (Image:Becker poster2m.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Becker poster2m.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 05:08, 25 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions to the Costa Mesa Speedway article, but for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.3 and later."

You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question at the "Help Desk". You can also leave a message on my talk page. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 05:18, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi. The text appears to have been cut and pasted from another source. We can't allow that because of copyright issues, even if it was your original work. You may certainly use an external reference as a source of information on what is clearly a notable motorsports venue, but the text must be in your own words. That's why I deleted it. Notability is certainly established and we'd welcom an article on the speedway. Thanks for asking. I hope this answers your question. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 05:34, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

My mistake. I hit the wrong template, visible only to the admins. Sorry about that. In the meantime, don't worry. You're more than welcome to make an honest mistake or two. Or three.  :)) I generally suggest that in a situation like this (and it happens a lot), use your original text solely as a reference and write a new article here. Otherwise, you'd have to release your original text over on your original website to this site's license, effectively leaving it available for pretty much anyone to use. An article here written in your own words not only nets us a nice article, it'll protect your original work as well. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 05:52, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • Looks good. The style can use some cleaning-up, but it's been tagged for attention. I may do some myself tomorrow. Thank you SO much for the contribution! Looks like a terrific start and a most welcome subject. PMDrive1061 (talk) 06:39, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

You bet. If you have any photos of your own you'd like to upload, I recommend you do so at Wikimedia Commons. Just establish an account there the way you did here. You can upload the files to that site and easily link to them back here. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 06:46, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Wow, what a difference! Looks great! Forgive me for having forgotten to make some styling adjustments. It still is a bit "breezy" in tone, but I can fix that myself ASAP. The tag helps alert other editors. You mentioned "Larry Huffman" in the article; is that the same guy who does the high-powered radio commercials for motorsports events? --PMDrive1061 (talk) 08:05, 23 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yup. SoCal boy.  :) I've spoken with Mr. Huffman via e-mail and he's terrific. Definitely worth a page. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 02:19, 24 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
