Hello, I'm Rentier. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Barings have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Rentier (talk) 20:37, 28 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Barings

edit

Hello, Dr.300stryon. I reverted your changes to the article Barings. As you mention that you are part of the digital marketing team at Barings, I hope to clear up a few things for you. Wikipedia has a conflict of interest policy that you should take a look at (here: WP:COI; the better "plain and simple" guide is here: WP:PSCOI). One of the PSCOI rules are "Do not edit articles about ... your organization, your clients, or your competitors."

I understand the frustration involved in having your company's article be outdated, (and Wikipedia has a huge number of bureaucratic policies that make contributing more difficult for newcomers), but to avoid any appearance of impropriety, you're not supposed to edit articles about your employer. Articles generally come out better that way, anyway.

Part of the reason people trust Wikipedia is because it is an independent source, and not something written by corporations (WP:NOTPROMO). The "correct" way to go about improving your company's article would be to follow the instructions in the "Advice" section of PSCOI. I would like to see the Barings page be more accurate and up to date - and if you're willing to observe the COI policies, the article will indeed get better.-Ich (talk) 20:52, 28 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
