Thank you very much! How long is required before my contribution is "live"? When I search on the name of the person I am writing about, the article doesn't appear.

I guess that you are referring to User:Dr. Susan Hardwicke/David B. Rivkin? Because that article is currently in your own userspace, it is not a live article yet, so will not appear for normal users performing a search.

Before you move it over though, there might be a few problems with the article. I will take a look, and make some comments here in a few moments.  Chzz  ►  18:09, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Comments re. the article;

• Currently it contains the code;

...office of Baker & Hostetler ([[Baker Hostetler]])...

...which displays as;

...office of Baker & Hostetler (Baker Hostetler)...

Instead, you should put this code;

...office of [[Baker Hostetler|Baker & Hostetler]]...

This will make a link from the words "Baker & Hostetler" to the article entitled "Baker Hostetler".

• Please try to use neutral language; for example, the phrase "a prolific political writer" is not a neutral point of view - it should just be, "a political writer" - I appreciate that he has indeed written a lot, but we want the reader to make up their own mind as to the significance. It would be fine to say, "He has written over 1000 articles for mainstream media" if a direct reference from a reliable source supported this 'fact' - e.g. a newspaper, magazine article or book. There are other non-neutral phrases in the article, so please review it with this in mind; check WP:PEACOCK and WP:WEASEL.

• There are currently no in-line references, so it is hard to verify the information; this is particularly important in the case of biographies of living persons. I will add information about how to make such references in another section of this page. Please read WP:BLP for more information on these things.

• The (frankly huge) list of publications is not appropriate; Wikipedia is not a directory. I suggest removing the entire list, and instead writing a short paragraph explaining the extent of his writing (with references, of course).

I hope that you will find these suggestions and comments useful. I advise you to address these issues prior to making the article 'live', otherwise it is likely to be removed. Whilst it remains in your userspace, you can work on it for as long as you like.

How references work

Simple references

These require two parts;

a)

Chzz is 98 years old.<ref> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref>

b) A section called "References" with the special code "{{reflist}}";

(an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections)

To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:Dr. Susan Hardwicke/reftest and try it out.

Named references

Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result.

Citation templates

You can put anything you like between <ref> and </ref>, but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;

It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

To expand on Orangemike's warnings above (which were warranted), your edit at Talk:Joseph J. DioGuardi (seen here) changed another editor's comment, whether you intended to do so or not. That isn't allowed at Wikipedia, only under very limited circumstances are you allowed to change another person's comment at a talk page. You can read the guideline for details. The reason why this isn't allowed is because when you modify another person's comment, you make it look like they said something that they didn't actually say. If you object to what a person says, or if you have any other response, then you should type your response below their words (make sure to sign your comment by including ~~~~ at the end). -- Atama頭 17:34, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Hello Dr. Hardwicke, I wanted to let you know that I've blanked your page per our guideline at WP:UP#NOT. "Excessive unrelated content" is not allowed, including "inappropriate or excessive personal information unrelated to Wikipedia", and your user page contained what amounted to a full resume. Wikipedia is not the place for self-promotion (or promotion of any other kind). If you wish to include some simple personal information, that is certainly allowed and not uncommon, but please try to be reasonable. If you choose to reinsert such information, your userpage can be deleted as advertising. Your userpage for the most part is for you to do as you wish, and some material not related to Wikipedia is allowed, but just not to the extent that you've done before.
