Deletion of Assessing Performance of a Phtovoltaic Installation

Dear DragonflySixtyseven, I can see your reasoning to delete this entry. However, I need your suggestion on how to make it into an anticle. It is a topic dear to my heart and I do believe there are people who can really benefit from this knowledge. This write-up was motivated after observing hundreds of PV installations under-perform from various causes. Much of it were undetected, due to lack of knowledge. In actuality, a good percentage(over 50%) of all non-commercial installations underperform up to 50% below their expected output. On inclusionism

Patrolling new pages can, it's true, have an effect on one's perception of inclusionism, but only in the way that patrolling recent changes can affect one's ability to assume good faith. And I've come to think that doing too much of either can induce a generally negative attitude towards new articles, and new and IP editors. I think inclusionism and AGF are similar, and necessary for the current and future health of Wikipedia. While I did mention that I do vote to delete a lot of stuff, I think it's important to approach dubious articles with an open mind and with a critical attitude that doesn't judge whether something deserves to be saved, but if it is possible to save it. Call it APDA (Assume a Potentially Decent Article).

Edmund Rolls

Hi, I am the user who posted the e-mail extract to the 'Edmund Rolls' talk page (dynamic IP and I've never gone as far as getting an account). I was wondering, if you're adamant about protecting the page from editing, whether we could make this a version which is actually up-to-date. As you can see from the talk page on the article, there is plenty of evidence that Edmund Rolls is no longer employed at Oxford University or Corpus Christi College. Whilst emotive language like 'he was sacked' or 'he was brought up on disciplinary charges due to arrogance' is completely unwarranted (as well as unsupported by evidence), the simple fact that he no longer works at Oxford is certainly true and very relevant.

The first thing anyone who wants to know more about Rolls will do (especially an undergraduate reading one of his publications) is go to this wikipedia page. If it contains misinformation, it's just going to be unhelpful. Student Approaches to Learning

Can you explain to me what you would not mark as an essay according to Wikipedia's terms? I am angry about the removal of my entry about student apporaches to learning. It was an objective statement that sumamrised the views of a number of authors. That is what an encyclopdia entry does. It was not personal opinion and if that is defined as an essay then all of the articles here would have to be reomoved.

Deannacy

I believe what is meant is actually a deanery. A deanery is a sub-group of the dioscese, or middle judicatory. I do not know that a deanery would be inherently notable, and could not make heads or tails of the claims of notability in that particular article because of the grammar/language issues. WP Catholicism would be a good place to ask for some additional eyes to help clean that article up and see if there is anything keepable there. Hope that helps. Deletion of Echinus_(window_manager)

Dear administrator,

It has been claimed that Echinus is (not yet) notable, and therefor was deleted from Wikipedia.

We claim that is echinus is _sufficiently_ notable. It is the *only* tiling window manager which supports EWMH to the extent of Xmonad [1]. The development has been done as a derivate from dwm, by a single developer Alexander Polakov. The code base is in Ansi C. Most users of tiling window managers think that the fact that Xmonad is written in Haskell is one of the most troublesome "features" to deal with. echinus uses portable X11 resource configuration. The user is almost never needed to reconfigure the source code.

Alexander Polakov has extended dwm in a nontrivial way beyond the functionality of awesome and other tiling window managers to work in a modern gnome or kde based desktop system.

The importance of echinus is by far underestimated when stating "not yet notable". echinus is the best effort yet to bring tiling tiling window managers to the modern desktop.

So I pledge from you, please undelete the echinus page.

Deleteion of the Life Between Lives Regression Article

I read the Life Between Lives Regression article and was impressed at the accuracy the authors summery of the information and amazed when the article was suddenly withdrawn, I assume by yourself. Will you please justify this deletion. Its been based on the collective research of leading psychiatrists and psychologists working in the area for over twenty years, many working quite independently. Its been documented in several books and is based on thousands of subjects reports. This was all mentioned in the article.

I am a professional psychologist working in this area and have the experience over 180 clients Life between Lives regression and have compared my finding with all the other pioneers in this field. I suggest you read my book "Exploring The Eternal Soul" if you want more detailed information.

I request that either this article is fully restored or you explain in detail exactly what is needed for it to be accepted.

Feature or bug?

I understand that people want me to turn on the editor recognition. But my point is why? Why should I have to monitor who made an edit? The only time it would come into play is if we were trying to establish something on the talk page in which case I will look at the history. But if I'm just looking through recent changes at articles on my watchlist, there is no reason for me to know who is making the edit. We are supposed to assume good faith with respect to all editors no matter who they "identify" as. That's basic Wikipedia philosophy. ScienceApologist (talk) 20:13, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of Johnny Siu bio

Hello,

I have added a bio for an artist called Johnny Siu, which was deleted because of "notability not asserted". It is true that he is not as famous as the Queen of England for example, but I believe that his notability is rising in the artistic world and that the presence of a bio about him on Wiki is justified. Now the question is: how can I prove this to you? Although I limited the amount of references added to the page, I have about 20 links to sites where his name is mentioned related to exhibitions or events related to his work. I will not add these links here to keep this entry concise, but they are available upon request.

On 04:22, 26 June 2008 the page Cention was deleted with the reason: "It's not impossible that a valid article could be created on this subject. This is not that article." This is in fact an article about the real company Cention, is the reason that it need more information or references to more facts and on line readings about the company in various newspapers etc.? Please restore it and more content and references shall be added.

Please look at pages for other companies like Avaya, Siebel, Genesys etc. The information of these corporation have not been removed. Also the page have already been translated into other languages.

Hi, the article on Redmine (a Software_configuration_management) was deleted by you on grounds of "notability not asserted". It's not my article, but I most definitivly think that it's more notable than many other software articles on Wikipedia. It's new, yes, but it's already a contestor to Trac, people are migrating to it from Trac, Mantis, etc., and is used by noteable groups and companies: Ruby, TYPO3, Siemens...[[2]]. No, I do not understand. So the format of the article was in question? Ok, then you answered your own question. It was deleted because of the way it was written and submitted to Wikipedia. The term 'apparent copyvio' should now be dismissed and the article returned. You will find no proof anywhere that it was a copyright violation. It was formed from personal knowledge of the subject and biographical, (albeit small), books about the subject. I'm assuming there is some sort of strict method or rules concerning punctuation, grammar, or spelling when posting articles? Is one of the rules that it can not, in any way, be well written? Or show the poster as being educated and his/her writings being grammatically correct? That's ridiculous. "It's so well written, therefore it MUST be stolen and/or it just CANNOT be anything other than copyrighted somewhere." Put the article back please. You can let us know what petty instructions there are on how to make it look less professional. I know you must filter out nonsense, but without any proof and especially articles posted with cites listed, you overreached with this authority. There are more out there suitable for deletion, ones WITHOUT cites that should keep you busy for a while. Joint Staff Sponsorship Program

Hi Dragonfly,
We created a Wikipedia article entitled "Joint Staff Sponsorship Program" on Wikipedia. The article explained what the Joint Staff Sponsorship Program is and does. Additionally the page had numerous links to information about the Washington DC Metro area. This page was of immense reference value to members of the US Military coming to work at the Pentagon and in the Washington, DC area. We believe the page was in compliance with Wikimedia/Wikipedia guidelines.
You deleted the page citing the reason, "Page not an article." I would respectfully disagree and ask you to reconsider. The Joint Staff Sponsorship Program is a noun, an actual thing. This page explained what it does and further demonstrated the type of information it provides.

If there was some problem with the content I think it would have been more appropriate to exercise your legendary editorial skills rather than delete it outright.

Although Environmental Technology Verification Program was very poor quality, I do not think it was bad enough for speedy deletion. As a USEPA programme, it is surely a notable subject. I have restored it. I think it deserves an AfD if it is to be deleted. Hi. I want to create an article about Young Photographers United but I seem to have a problem. I thought it was ok to experiment on my user page (as mentioned in the guidelines) but you deleted the page. Then I tried to create a new page but it was tagged for immediate deletion. The article was seen as advertising but I don't know why as it is a non-profit organisation that helps young photographers. Could you perhaps help me out? Are there parts I need to rewrite? Response to Name Change Request

I gave a long response to your request I change my username in response to your comment on my page. You can read the whole thing there but the long and short of it is this. The name arose naturally from a non-offensive context: As a nickname I was called in college in reference to the seinfeld Soup Nazi episode) and so far no one who was familiar with this episode or the slang usage that inspired the term in the episode hasn't found it offensive. However, I have since discovered that some people (particularly Europeans) who aren't aware of the context do find it offensive and other things being equal that is bad. However, I also feel that it's important not to change terms/usage that wasn't offensive in the cultural/social context it arose from merely because others lacking that context misinterpret the significance of the choice (e.g. assuming it suggests a failure to appreciate how horrible the holocaust was). I explain more in response to your comment but the long and short of it is that I'm of mixed opinions about whether I should change my name as two of my principles are in conflict.

Just thought I'd let you know that I ultimately decided to request a username change (just put it in). I still have deeply mixed feelings about this but I ultimately decided that it just wasn't worth sticking to principles in this case since it might become a pain in the ass and I wouldn't accomplish much. I still strongly believe that we should view taking offense at mere forms (rather than our best guess at the underlying intended communication) as a flaw rather than something deserving of consideration but it's just not worth fighting about in this case.Logicnazi (talk) 22:10, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Not to mention that a self-reference, for our purposes, is not simply mentioning Wikipedia (even substantially), but merely saying something that assumes that someone is viewing the article from http://en.wikipedia.org.

There's nothing wrong with having articles on Wikipedia, on major Wikipedia controversies, on people who have achieved fame solely because of Wikipedia, etc. The problem only comes when that article is worded in such a way that the article "knows" it's on Wikipedia. I got your message on my talk page and that sounds reasonable. As much as anything, it just bugged me that the time elapsed between a notice being put up and the article being deleted were so short. I've had a few bad experiences in the past with articles being deleted by editors without rationale or even a request for discussion, sometimes on articles that were heavily linked to and had substantial information. It also bugged me because the Wikipedia:Deletion_policy#Proposed_deletion Deletion Policy seemed to indicate 5 days between the posting of the notice and the deletion. Lately, I've noticed an increased number of pages getting speedy deletion without meeting the proper criteria for such and I'm a bit of a bear for policy being followed. Hey DragonflySixtyseven; sounds like you kind of came in on this mess through the side door ;) In any case, you may not have been made aware that there are far more editors participating in the discussion than just Bstone and JzG. In addition, an RfC was posted on the IMED listing and its inclusion in the article which brought in a lot more comments on the situation. Unfortunately, the section you added may have been acceptable to both parties you spoke with (though I seriously doubt this given JzG's comments on the talk of the article) but it wasn't acceptable as a whole to the group who's discussing the material and pretty much goes against all comments received on the RfC as well....if its not too much to ask, could you please remove the IMED information you added? I don't see JzG anywhere in the log you posted, I think you may have gotten some faulty information here. To give you a little bit more backstory here, Bstone has unsuccessfully tried to get people banned from the article who disagreed using ANI, run an RfC who's comments were all against the inclusion of this material, subsequently tried to have the edit made anyways with {{editprotected}} which was obviously denied and finally tried a 3O on the same subject even though there are many editors involved in this discussion. Its kind of scary that by continuing to forum shop to IRC, Bstone was ultimately successful in having her edit made against consensus even with the article in full protection. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to revert an article already put into protection because the specific material you re-inserted. Deleting Fluid Friction Comics

I have restored Fluid Friction Comics as an editor on the page asked what happened as they hadn't seen anything about a pending deletion on their watchlist, as it was also on my watchlist and I hadn't seen anything I thought it was odd and found you'd just deleted it without any preamble.

There are a number of ways to flag concerns about articles so that editors can work to address them. Equally if you thought it needed deleting there are number of ways to go about this. You did none of this. Granted there are problems with the article that various editors are working to address but considering there a number of sources showing coverage of the topic this has to be a controversial action.

WP:DELETE is pretty clear about all the steps that can be taken - none of those involve just deleting the page without any warning. (Emperor (talk) 12:31, 21 July 2008 (UTC))

Of course there are exceptions (I've used them myself) but such speedy deletions should be used sparingly and there are guidelines that cover that. However, it should have been obvious that this doesn't qualify - we should always err on the side of caution after all (as I'm sure there are always people ready to start pointing fingers about abusing admin powers). Hi, I have only now noticed that you deleted Plurk on July 17 (or 16, depending on your time zone), which I created. The article has been created twice after that, and was speedied after the first subsequent creation. I note that your reason for deletion was "not notable yet" but it already has a couple or so reliable source references before your deletion. Please, if there is any reasonable doubt about an article's subject's notability, you should have taken the article to AfD instead of unilaterally deleting it without warning. Notability of a subject should be determined by consensus and it's not up to you alone.

List of films depicting the future deleted?

Hi, you deleted the page I created "List of films depicting the future," and I had a few questions. I assume based on Wikipedia:Why was my page deleted? and your brief explanation that my article was a "speedy deletion." The same page provides the guidelines for speedy deletion: "pages that contain nonsense, copyright violations and articles that do not satisfy notability guidelines." The article clearly wasn't nonsense as it had a coherent theme and was scrupulously researched, and no copyrighted material was reproduced in the article. I assume therefore you based the deletion on failure to meet notability requirements. The Notability requires objective evidence lists the general guideline for notability: "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be notable." I would argue that "future noir" and films depicting the future are a major theme in science fiction, which is itself a very notable topic. Additionally, "films depicting the future" fits in nicely with several other similar lists that have been made and maintained on Wikipedia including List of films featuring extraterrestrials, List of films about outer space, List of comedy science fiction films, etc. Movies taking place in the future is as venerable a sub genre as alien movies or space operas and equally notable and deserving of recordation. Given the preceding I fail to see your grounds for speedy deletion.

Your summary did indicate two other arguments, subjective and unmaintainable. I assume that if this article had been deleted in a manner other than "speedy" these arguments would be relevant. In the interest of addressing those claims however I submit the following. One, that there is a clear and objective standard for determining whether a film depicts the future or not; namely, it must be set in a time period either stated to occur in the future (e.g. 2001: A Space Odyssey is set in 2001, and X-Men is set in "the near future") or must bear the indicia of same. Such indicia include technology far beyond he capabilities of those available when the film was produced (e.g. human-like artificial intelligence, interstellar spaceflight, ubiquitous robotics, etc.). Certainly there is a degree of subjectivity in determining what qualifies as indicia of advanced technology, and if deemed too subjective the list could be culled to include only films with stated settings, but I believe doing so would unnecessarily narrow the scope of applicable films. Movies like Star Wars for example which is stated to be set "a long time ago" would needlessly be excluded when it is among the hallmarks of what a film about the future is and has shaped the idea of what the future will look like for millions.

Your second summary statement of unmaintainable is unclear to me and I would welcome the opportunity to respond to it if you would provide further information. In sum this is an article I put a lot of thought into and believe is a good addition to Wikipedia and is within all relevant guidelines. I have run the site for the band for almost 10 years, and they constantly keep in communication with updates, journals, and family pictures.. I had posted a link to our site on EXTERNAL LINKS in the past, but some jokesters repeatedly took it down saying "no fan sites."

GreenDay dot net is the OFFICIAL FAN SITE, with constant updates from the 3 band members themselves and their familys, to ban the site is ridiculous. Now I find out the entire URL is blacklisted and I can't even type it in this letter. Can someone help?

Deletion of Nouvelle Chanson

This is a response to your deletion of my page on Nouvelle Chanson.

Although you may not think the article has a real encyclopediac form - and in some ways I agree, although my views on what constitute an encyclopediac form are very liberal - I still think it should be there. (I think I have a right to my opinion - I am quite a respected scholar and editor in Australia, especially for my knowledge of Pali, Sanscrit and Buddhism). A Google on 'Nouveau Chanson' brings up over 8 million hits. A Google on Nouvelle Chanson brings up 33 million hits, although Nouvelle Chanson is not differentiated from Chanson. And yet there is almost nothing on this important topic in English. Whatever the deficiencies of my article, there should be something. This is the most important musical phenomenon of this century.

Someone also deleted the article on Cibelle, which was a stub and I think not created by me. A search on Cibelle brings up over 300, 000 hits for this important and respected, million-selling, award-winning singer. Once again, I think Wikipedia is a major information source, the first recourse for people seeking information. The article may have been a stub, but in my opinion, it is much, much better than nothing at all.

Thank you for your feedback. I take your point about personalisation and will clean up the article when I have time, which won't be for at least three weeks,because I am a very busy component of the Melbourne literary scene.

I have written to the President of France, French Cultural Affairs Ministry, and French Embassy, requesting research materials on Nouvelle Chanson, but have not had replies as yet. The Embassy did have a very valuable article on the subject on their website, but they have deleted it.

My research is not I think original in the sense of primary. It is a compilation of material from many sources, but no such compilation has been made available before, so it ends up being the most comprehensive resource available. I put the article up in the hope that someone who knew much more than me and was bilingual - at least, in French - would do some more with it, but this hasn't happened, at least not yet. I think I will go along to my local Alliance Francaise and seek a collaborator. I am working on some translations of the most important lyrics, so I need them checked by someone with much better French.

If you don't mind me saying so: Wikipedia has come to be the greatest - as well as, according to much research, the most accurate - information resource on the planet not by being exclusive, but by being inclusive. For example, if I were to look up 'Morrowind' in an Encyclopedia, I would no doubt find a dry-as-dust article telling me who created it and when and who sold it. If I look it up here, I find a comprehensive resource that includes information on how to play the game, links to mods, etc. That is why I come here. Or, in another example, I have requested an article on the group Hayzee Fantayzee, which was briefly popular in the '70s and whose members are still prominent in the arts industry. Now, it might be that the person who could write that article might be a former roadie for the group, and his English may not be the best, and certainly he may not have any idea of good encyclopediac presentation - but still, in my view, it is much better to have something than nothing. In this case, the person is not an original researcher, but he cannot cite sources because he is a primary source. It would be the same if I were to write articles on various aspects of Buddhism. My knowledge has been gained not from books, but from sitting at the feet of the most prominent masters on the planet for over thirty-five years. They are primary sources.

English has come to be the most prominent language on the planet because there is no prescriptive authority on English. There are only safeguards against abuse. I hope it remains so with Wikipedia. Indigocat (talk) 03:35, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

regarding the Lou Lancaster wiki article

Dear Sir - regarding the Lou Lancaster wiki article: Thanks for your help! BUT NOW - I hope you might be able to help me further!! Before I ask I want to state that I do not truly run the Lou Lancaster site, but the server the site is on is one of the machines that I admin. I did a small amount of work on the site because magicians and the owner of the server asked me to. Now to my question :) I was invited to the wake of Mr. Lou Lancaster, well they call it a Broken Wand ceremony which I filmed. In this meeting famous magicians attented and Lou turned out to be pretty much the best slight of hand close up magician in memory. That was agreed upon in general. However, specifically the famous Magician; Jeff McBride (of star trek and mind freak fame) stated some things about Lou that seem to me to be truly noteworthy such as Lou taught him and showed many techniques to him that he uses to this day. This was usual for Lou; he was really that good and everybody knew him but he never got the money or huge fame. He taught Mohammed Ali the ways of Magic. He created some set pieces of illusion such as the "Twister Illusion" and a version of "Dissapearing Cage" I uploaded the broken wand ceremony video to youtube, also a slide show I put together under direction of the executor of Lou's estate. Please could you tell me if this content and the statements Mr. McBride makes, for instance (in the Broken Wand video), would merit Lou's acticle becoming officially 'noteworthy'? I also have Lou's resume from the 1970's and permission to use any/all media on Lou/from Lou to use as I wish - the resume shows Lou being on TV several times would this help to establish noteworthyness?

Moved the redirect you put in

Hi. I've moved the redirect you put in for Kanawha valley's ancient people to Kanawha Valley culture and moved the whole page to Kanawha valley (prehistoric people) and revamped it a bit. I've asked for deletion of the first two pages and have undone the redirects. If you think they should stay then contest the deletion and let me know and I'll put the redirects back in the mean time. "Stub" article about a company in order to avoid confusion

Hello,

I'm quite new to creating articles in Wikipedia, but I understand the argument behind deleting the short article about TechnoSoft_(Adaptive_Modeling).

The reason for adding it was because I searched for information about AML, a computer language, developed by a company called Technosoft. However the link under the AML article erroneously pointed to a defunct gaming company called Technosoft, something which was wrong/confusing. This led me to create the, maybe not so interesting, article about the developer of AML.

If I agree that Technosoft (the AML company) might not warrant its own article, I would ideally see a "main" Technosoft page listing possible meanings of Technosoft, with a link to the current content in a renamed article, e.g. Technosoft_Gaming_Company, and maybe a brief explanation on the "main" page about the developer of the AML language. However, "moving" contents between articles would mess up the history, wouldn't it?

Because of the limitations of the Pywikipediabot framework. It is possible to operate scripts under more than one account, but it's very cumbersome. If this is going to be a problem, I suppose I can deal with the hassle. --Russ (talk) 19:07, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

• • • You don't seem to understand that when you redirect someone's article by merging it with another article the redirected article is totally lost. I spent two days researching and two hours writing an article to replace a pre-existing "stub" article that was small and wildly inaccurate (even the title was inaccurate). The article I had created was over two thousand words long. What you have done is redirect my article to the stub, and in the process deleted my article and left only the stub behind. Check out your discussion page. It's nothing to be proud of. You've done this to a lot of other people and you don't seem to get it.
