Chinese folk religion

edit

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_folk_religion

Comment 1: I'd like to expand the definition of "Mazu" "Mazu" is a goddess originated from a folk story about "Lin Mo Niung". Lin Mo Niung was a very smart and thoughtful girl since she was young. The folk story said that a magician taught Lin Mo Niung magics to help other people. When Lin Mo Niung grew up, she often used her magic to go to the sea and guided the ships to drive in the right direction home from storms. Many captains claimed that they saw Lin Mo Niung's figure on the sea when they encountered big storms and that if they followed Lin Mo Niung's figure they would find the way home. Even after Lin Mo Niung died, many captains still claimed to see her figure wearing bright red clothes guided them to sail toward the right direction. The story about Lin Mo Niung has been very popular among coastal Chinese communities.

Comment 2: I will add 2-3 sources of Mazu's stories as footnotes
