Help
I just noticed this new user: User talk:Modernist 2000; [1]; it's awfully close to my name and this editor seems to be working on pages that I have edited on...please can you help this person to change their name? I added a request here: [2]; Thank you...Modernist (talk) 21:54, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
- Who was that longterm sockpuppeteer that used to mess with you and others? (Sorry, I'm forgetful.) (Also, I gotta start with dinner, but I'll pick this up again.) Drmies (talk) 23:08, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
- Appreciate the thought; I was thinking about one of those sockpuppeteers also. Any help will be useful. I gotta start dinner as well; thanks...Modernist (talk) 23:23, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
- Got this new recipe for fancy hummus, where you cook the chickpeas first and pull off their skins and all. The hummus is fluffy like chocolate mousse--amazing. Drmies (talk) 01:19, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
- Sounds great...Modernist (talk) 02:56, 7 January 2020 (UTC)

Disruption at World War I-related articles
Hi Drmies, in relation to this discussion here, where you very kindly blocked a person using multiple IPs to long-term disruption at List of combat vehicles of World War I, would you mind blocking 202.168.153.76 and 185.65.206.148? Same person with the same style of editing causing the same type of disruption in the same topic area. Thank you, Aoi (青い) (talk) 19:35, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- Absolutely. And happy new year to you! Drmies (talk) 20:48, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you! And happy new year to you as well! (Also, I feel like an idiot, I somehow forgot to finish writing out the header when I opened this request – I'm now not-so-quietly fixing the header after the fact!) Aoi (青い) (talk) 00:27, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
Twitch user causing vandalism
The vandalism edit at All That seems to be the result of users from Twitch, coming from twitch.tv/Ludwig as edited into that vandalism before I reverted it. The streamer has a current vandalizing pages here as I type this message. Wanted to notify you about this, and I’ll revert all the edits this causes, thanks. HurricaneGeek2002 talk 04:03, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
I saw that you just indefinitely blocked this user. Might want to look into 50.70.217.15 too, as it seems to be Kremit's IP based on the two edits on there. Magitroopa (talk) 04:04, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

Blocked for No Reason
Ummm, apparently my IP address and Wikipedia account was blocked for "edit warring and vandalism" and 1) I've never actually engaged in edit warring or vandalism on Wikipedia before, and 2) NONE of the edits that the AutoBlock says I made were actually made by me at all, Idek how it's possible cuz I've never even seen any of those pages or articles before. IntellectualChristianWikiUser (talk) 18:34, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
- You are (obviously) not blocked. Drmies (talk) 18:38, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
DYK for The equatorie of the planetis
On 9 January 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article The equatorie of the planetis, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the 14th-century manuscript The equatorie of the planetis, sometimes ascribed to Chaucer, describes an equatorium (example pictured)? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/The equatorie of the planetis. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, The equatorie of the planetis), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

- D'oh! The original hook was used. The one I proposed (the hook that was actually approved) avoided linking to equatorium, so it wouldn't steal clicks from your article. Equatorium got 2629, while yours got 2149. Oh, well..... MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 21:02, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
- Oh, you're right, I see that now--Epicgenius signed off on your hook, but maybe Cwmhiraeth didn't notice that. Well, now lots of people know what an equatorium is in somewhat greater detail? ... Thanks Mandarax, Drmies (talk) 22:09, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
Block tweak
I tightened your CU block of Hutcher Huntins. Don't want to step on CUs' toes and it's not one of my usual sock-drawers, but I felt I couldn't let what they were doing on their talkpage remain (no idea if it needs a revdel or something more). DMacks (talk) 22:53, 11 January 2020 (UTC)
- Holy shit DMacks, thank you for notifying me. Yes, I revdeleted it. I blocked them for total douchebaggery, before all the socking, and sheesh I didn't think it'd get worse than it already was. I don't know if you saw the SPI (Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/BSanders46), but ST47 did some heavy lifting as well and I'm very grateful to them also. Ip blocked
Hello it shows you have blocked me from editing. What is the reason for this Jbschev (talk) 17:37, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hello Jbschev and Drmies. Happy new year to all! Jbschev, since you are still editing as of January 1, your account must not be blocked. If you are getting an error message, can you say what it is? EdJohnston (talk) 17:51, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
- Happy New Year to you too, Ed. Yes, this is not the first time I get such a message; it always puzzles me. Drmies (talk) 19:53, 1 January 2020 (UTC)

You blocked a huge swath of users, many of which were perfectly fine, via IP range. They can stil edit from different terminals (blocked via phone browser, say, but not via desktop, say) Blanket blocking removes a lot of perfectly innocent users just to inconvenience the one problem user. UniNoUta (talk) 00:19, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- I don't know which range you're talking about, and until you do there is nothing useful that I can say. No, I have not blocked users unless those users were vandals who needed to be blocked. Drmies (talk) 01:27, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
Unpleasant comments
Hi Drmies, do you have a moment to look at a couple of comments: Talk:Lahmacun#Another Nonsense Turkish Propaganda Incompatible With English? I also left a note on Oshwah's talk page, but I think he's rather busy irl at the moment. The first comment seemed more like a racist diatribe than anything constructive, so I reverted it, but they put it back and then some. Was it ok for me to revert it, or should I have asked an admin? I know in general you shouldn't delete others' comments, but it seemed like it crossed a line - do we really have to put up with this? Thanks... --IamNotU (talk) 03:06, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hey, thanks--I removed and blocked the last IP. If it continues, please let me know. It would be great if this thing started working properly again. Drmies (talk) 03:11, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

Vandal has reappeared and been blocked
Poopsexfunny seems to have reappeared as Iwillshitonyou. I reported after first instance and Mz7 blocked on basis of vandalism and profane user name. Just to let you know, if you did not see it, that this did not need four warnings and to thank you for your reminder. It worked! Donner60 (talk) 04:51, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Donner60, I think most administrators would indefinitely block such a username on sight, since the odds that such an editor will be productive are essentially zero. WP:UAA is a venue that will usually lead to a rapid block of such trolls. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:00, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Cullen328 To record for Drmies that I thanked you for this comment. I also note that I did report the second vandal at both AIV and UAA. As background, our discussion on an edit from last week had to do with the need for four warnings in an egregious case (BLP at that) but a username policy violation was not involved that time. So this was something of a followup on that - with the UAA issue in addition. FWIW. Donner60 (talk) 05:14, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you as well, Donner60. It will be interesting to hear what Drmies has to say, but I am inclined to rapidly block any account that is here to only add egregious BLP violations. If the violation is defamatory, racist or sexist, my block will be indefinite. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:26, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Cullen328 Yes, that was Drmies point in our previous discussion. I noted that I would report racist and similar comments at the first instance. Drmies noted that with respect to the BLP article last week, for which I had give four warnings, the vandalism was rather vile and actually could have been viewed as defamatory. I agreed I should have reported that vandal earlier. I had mentioned during the earlier comments to Drmies that I had a few reports rejected for not enough warnings some years ago and I suppose I was conditioned by that experience. Under the circumstances today, however, the second presumed appearance by the vandal with a different username seemed to justify an immediate report. So it was quite similar to last week, although still something of a variation on the previous theme. Unless a further comment as information really seems helpful to me, I will now try to dodge a yellow card for time wasting. Donner60 (talk) 05:48, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Such discussions are never time wasting. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:31, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Donner60, I'll support you on appeal if your claim gets thrown out of court, and Cullen will too, I'm sure. Thanks. Drmies (talk) 00:30, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

Similarities between User:Super Typhoon Mercedes-Benz and User:Hurricane Noah
Hi Drmies. I've never spoken to you before, I'm just an ANI lurker (scum of the earth, I know), but I thought that something about this section was rather curious
Two users. Never seen either of them on ANI before, and they pop up in the same thread. They both have disruptive glow-font signatures with superscript red talk page links. They both have usernames based off severe weather patterns. And they both presented their evidence in the exact same way on ANI, as a bullet point list with the commentary in the links, which isn't completely unheard of but rare for ANI.
I don't know that that's strong enough evidence to file an SPI over, but I did think it worth bringing to your attention, privately, as you're the admin who's actually bothered reading the thread and I don't want to disrupt ANI. Seth Kellerman (talk) 05:06, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- No, I wouldn't ever say "scum of the earth" to denote ANI watchers; really. But I don't see how they could really be related (nor, haha, is this note here "private"). One does wonder, after looking at STMB's user page, how an English person starts editing Wikipedia at age 9 and then ends up in the US six years later. Drmies (talk) 00:36, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
puzzlement
Hi, Drmies. It appears that you believe that I violated some norm/rule in a post I wrote on the Lou Dobbs talk page. It is certainly possible, though I assure you that it was unintentional. Would you be so kind as to explain what it is that you believe that I did wrong? Thanks. Sbelknap (talk) 05:07, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- I'm sorry but I'm not sure what you're asking. You're
yellinggetting angry at people for not answering your question, but there is nothing that obligates them to do so. And admins, when they close RfCs, don't always look kindly on such behavior because it detracts from the argument you are trying to make. Drmies (talk) 23:51, 12 January 2020 (UTC)- I don't feel angry at all.
- You wrote
what bothers me is that you seem to think that this RfC is some way in which you can force other editors to answer you question.
Asking for the single best example is a useful way to clarify the argument of somebody who disagrees with you. This is a standard way to resolve disagreements and achieve consensus. Else, there is the illusion that multiple bad examples somehow win the day. - AFAICT, the RfC had not yet begun. Other than initiation, none of the routine steps had been taken to open or maintain an RfC.
- If there is something that I did that was not in keeping with the rules and spirit of wikipedia, I would be glad to know it and would apologize and try to avoid such actions in the future.
- I appreciate your efforts to mediate this dispute. Stay well. Sbelknap (talk) 04:12, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

Replacement pic
I reported it because the source was missing but forgot to inform you. No worries, Commons has a lot of ostrich head pics. ミラP 15:36, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hmm maybe I should look into getting another pet anyway. I used to have a user page full of "accomplishments", but that seems overdone too. Drmies (talk) 23:52, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- That pic had no source for twelve straight years and I saw no choice but to tag it per c:COM:PCP, so it was deleted. But you can still get one, provided it's free of copyright issues that prevent it from staying in Wikimedia Commons. Go ahead, try. Wikimedia Commons is very plentiful, why else did it get its name. For starters, try this one. ミラP 23:59, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

- Not a democracy but I like mountains, yes. De, that is a very nicely looking mule. But what y'all don't know, I think, is that the ostrich was an allegorically loaded bird--at the time I placed it I felt like the WMF was sticking its head in the sand when it came to abuse suffered by Wikipedians, that it was not active enough in dealing with long-term harassment. A peaceful animal like the mule (donkey?) can't really carry that weight. Drmies (talk) 21:16, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

Two accounts
Hi Drmies. Thanks for your help. I just happened on this case where a user changed account names, but I am convinced it was done innocently/ in good faith. What does one do is such a case? Regards, Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 23:56, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
- Well the easiest thing to do is to ask them if they are indeed the same. Much depends on their answer. Drmies (talk) 00:10, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
- My apologies, should have pointed out that the second editor himself refers to an earlier edit made by earlier account. Hamish Alexander says in his very first edit "corrected a few mistakes I made earlier such as referring to Dangerous Hero: Corbyn's Ruthless Plot for Power as Jeremy Corbyn: Dangerous Hero". The mistake referrd to was made two days earlier by the other account, Alexander Brothers, in the section === Economics ===. Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 00:28, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
Unblock thoughts
Hi Drmies,
Apologies for any errors in my thinking - I've not looked at unblock requests before.
Mysteryguy360 has made a request for an unblock against an vandal-only account block you made when the Twitch stream issue was occurring 4 days ago.
I'm actually inclined to agree with their unblock reasoning, as they only made a single relevant edit, it was at least a partial improvement (vandals do obviously play around with their edits and remove some and retain bits they like more, but as it was their only relevant edit I'm applying AGF) and they do have a number of both neutral and helpful edits in the past, plus a couple of less so ones last year.
I was wondering whether there was anything else you knew about this case that I'd missed?
Cheers, Nosebagbear (talk) 09:51, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
- No, no error on your part: entirely wrong on my part. I just unblocked the editor--thank you so much for taking up for them. If you look at my log, you can see the blocks; the first one I think was 03:34, 10 January 2020, and it went on until 04:07, when I blocked this one. So yeah, it was pretty bad, and I just totally failed to practice due diligence when I blocked Mysteryguy360. Thanks again. Drmies (talk) 17:26, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
No apologies needed
Butt in any time you want... my user talk page is open for anyone to comment and contribute to. ;-) Funny story, I saw that there were messages on my user talk page, and the IP user didn't sign their edit, and I didn't check the history before reading the discussion... and I thought for a moment that you were the one asking me to explain why I removed the link. Made me scratch my head until I realized that two people had edited that discussion. :-P Cheers, and as always... great to see you! - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs)

IP Vandalism at Abby Phillip
Hello Drmies. I was hoping that you could provide some assistance at Abby Phillip. The page has been receiving high levels of IP vandalism since she co-moderated a CNN debate yesterday. You can probably guess how it's going. I will also add that the block of User:Sookmballs is likely necessary for his persistent edit-warring, vandalism, and attack1 + attack2 directed at me. Thank you, KidAd (talk) 17:59, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
- NawlinWiki has already blocked, for username violation (obvious) and vandalism-only. Thanks NawlinWiki--I am happy to see you again. For the record, KidAd, everything in its right place: I do not believe that "criticism", which is minor and came only from reporting on a couple of tweets, should be in there in the first place: it's very undue. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 21:16, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
- One more thing, KidAd. Those edits were partially vandalism, partially BLP violations, partially examples of edit warring--but you have to be careful with your reverts. Please see WP:NOT3RR, and make absolutely clear, in your edits, whether (in this case) you consider the edits vandalism or BLP violations; in this case I think the latter is the best option. Better yet, call in an admin and stay on the safe side of 3R, OK? Thanks, Drmies (talk) 21:18, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Drmies: I hear you loud and clear. Thank you for your help. Also, thank you @NawlinWiki:. KidAd (talk) 23:29, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
- NawlinWiki (who dat?) is the best. I just left a long-ish note on the talk page. Take it easy, Drmies (talk) 00:35, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

On 17 January 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Julius Bien, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Removal of essential info on I've Sound article
Hello Drmies. I just noticed that you deleted an extensive list of singers who worked with I've Sound and I would like to know why. If it is for lack of references, I can provide them, but I need to at least retrieve the list you deleted. By the way, the deleted information had been on the page for at least a decade. I'm trying to rebuild the articles about I've Sound, because they're really outdated and lacking in sources, but actions like this are discouraging. I wouldn't like to have to rebuild the listing to insert the references, it is an unnecessary rework ... Could you help with this? Also, it looks like you removed some info and commented it was sexist and I wondered why. Could you explain, please? Thanks, ERIKnoUniverso (talk) 03:56, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
Oh, I found the edit you tagged as sexist. I see your point, however, the following "known as utahime (歌姫) to their fans" should be avoided too? I think that the word "utahime" is used only for female people, so doesn't make sense if you don't make it clear that are about "female vocalists" and also, I don't know, I'm not sure about the sexist standpoint... I mean, while I think I understand it, I also have in my mind that I've Sound barely makes music for male vocalists and even one of their flagship albums are entitled "I've GIRLS Compilation", that always has been the focus of the group: female vocals. A man sang an I've song in 2000. Then another in 2018. And that's all. And there is C.G mix, who produces all by himself his songs (Kazuya and the others composers never made a song for him). Perhaps we could keep the term "female vocalists" preceded by the word "mainly", so it is understood that the group works mostly with female vocals and exceptionally with male vocals, and the next sentence "known as utahime" doesn't lose its meaning. What do you think? ERIKnoUniverso (talk) 04:18, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

Other page they are running with different name, because they are not well aware of the subject and moderator Flyind... Is misleading that page with wrong names. SylhetiEditor (talk) 03:55, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
- I don't know what you mean with "activate". What you were doing was creating a second page on the topic that was already covered. What you can do is start a renaming/move discussion on that article's talk page. Of course the others are wrong and you are right, but right now I don't care and I'm not going to judge on that: you need to follow the protocol here so a proper decision can be reached. Talk:NikkieTutorials
Hi, I noticed you redacted and revdeleted Nikkie's alleged previous name. I don't know if this was a conscious decision from you or an oversight, but you did not redact the source link along with it. IMO it would've made more sense to redact that link as well, since the alleged previous name can also be read on there. cave (talk) 14:11, 19 January 2020 (UTC)
- I don't think there's much of a purpose to scrubbing that. Drmies (talk) 15:38, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. - Well, I wish you wouldn't be doing this. Empty categories take up no space, and I gotta go figure out through which machinations the above category, Jewish engravers, was emptied. Drmies (talk) 02:26, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
