Hello.
Plaease notice that in this edit I changed two hyphens to en-dashes. WP:MOS requires an en-dash rather than a hyphen for a range of years or pages or the like. Michael Hardy (talk) 18:27, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

old dnb
I don't think it is useful copying material from the old dnb without indicated the exact part of the material that is taken from it--in the case of what you are doing, that's probably all the article, but it has to be mentioned, probably best by the ordinary device of quotation marks, so that when people add additional material the sourcing will be clear.
Actually, I don;t think it is useful at all to simply add such material, without yourself looking for modern sources--such as the current dnb, which is very widely available in libraries, or other sources on the subject. interpretations can change, and the material that would be said a century ago in summarizing the careers of 19th and 18th century notables is probably not a good representation of the current approach to the subject.
I know this has been discussed in the past, and I know that what you are doing has been discouraged, so it disappoints me that you are still doing it. I think it;'s time to carry this discussion further, and intend to propose two suggestions: 1. That not indicating the exact part copied is bad practice amounting to plagiarism and cause for deletion. 2. That all such material be tagged by a much more explicit warning at the head of the article and possibly, that adding multiple articles in the fashion is not to the interests of WP. DGG ( talk ) 08:56, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
- well, the parts copied, i have footnoted at the end of each paragraph. where it is existing not copied, i have not. when it is copied i have used "DNB", where rewritten i have used "cite DNB"; to the extent that this is a new article, i don't see the problem. however, i will refrain from creating new articles verbatum from DNB.
- a related problem is an existing article, copy pasted from ODNB, which is in reality an old DNB text except for a sentence or two. there are a couple thousand existing articles like this.
- if you could point me to a consensus, style guide, or process for disentangling the mess, that would be greatly appreciated. Duckduckgo (talk) 21:49, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
- for example, this article here: Sir David Dale, 1st Baronet. this is a cut and paste with close paraphrasing. better to source to public domain work, and rewrite the ondb parts (if any) surely? Duckduckgo (talk) 15:32, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Commander of the Order of the British Empire
I found on Harry Smith entry the CBE appointment was linked to Commander of the British Empire. This should be linked to either Commander of the Order of the British Empire or using the full name Commander of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (and both links are case sensitive). The post-nominal template is also useful to manage post nominal letters either with or without categories.

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Head shot of deceased journalist.jpg
A tag has been placed on File:Head shot of deceased journalist.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Speedy deletion nomination of Nadia Bolz-Weber
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Nadia Bolz-Weber requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
Thank you for your recent contributions, such as Nadia Bolz-Weber. Getting started creating new articles on Wikipedia can be tricky, and you might like to try creating a draft version first, which you can then ask for feedback on if necessary, with less risk of deletion. Do make sure you also read help available to you, including Your First Article and the Tutorial. You might also like to try the Article Wizard, which has an option to create a draft version. This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Jane Vezin, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.oxforddnb.com/templates/article.jsp?articleid=36649&back=.
It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

Thanks for linking to the new PROD proposals on your userpage. I've responded. I'm a strong-source-inclusionist and near-term eventualist, so I tend to oppose what seem like overbroad and too-precipitous deletionist proposals whenever possible. --Lexein (talk) 03:31, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- I kinda agree, but this is beyond the inclusionist or deletionist divide: it goes to admin competence. the only solution to problems is management by drama, management by crisis, management by turning blue. the pointed challenge stands: we have admins who have all kinds of time to tag spam articles, hound people's talk pages, prod for deletion, but not one second to actually reference an article. leadership is not telling people what to do, leadership is building teams to get things done.
- there is a fundamental lack of lessons learned: they forget nothing and they learn nothing. the BLP mass deleter referenced no articles, and got a pass. all the BLP hysteria accomplished little, but they think it's the way forward. count me out: delete 200,000 articles; see if I care; I have my own agenda of Wikimedia improvement. I collaborate with good faith people, which leaves out a lot of wikipedians. Duckduckstop (talk) 16:45, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

2014 Elk River chemical spill
Hey Duckduckstop, thank you so incredibly much for beginning the article for the 2014 Elk River chemical spill. I've made some additions, and would like you to take a look and add any additional content that I've omitted. Thanks again for taking the initiative to get this article off the ground! -- Caponer (talk) 17:08, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
- not at all, i left a stub mess, and you made a good article out of it. this may be one event, but it will have far reaching consequences for WV politics. Duckduckstop (talk) 21:05, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Duckduckstop, you took the initiative to create this article during the height of the leak and its breaking coverage and you did so in a very timely fashion! Thank you for the thoughtful barnstar! I look forward to working with you again in the future, and I will definitely try and make it to that Edit-a-thon here in D.C.! -- Caponer (talk) 01:27, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we would ask that you assume good faith while interacting with other editors, which you did not on Talk:Darren Cullen. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. VQuakr (talk) 19:26, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
- i do assume that, a reasonable person might well conclude that biting newbies is not in good faith. Duckduckstop (talk) 19:59, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
- Actually no; biting newbies is generally not an example of bad faith. See the essay WP:AAGF for a review if you wish. VQuakr (talk) 20:03, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
- i think it is, i wonder if there are any admins who will collaborate with a newbie? i know a couple, but the conduct in that article history is shameful, and everyone there should get a trout. wp:bite applies. when you persist in biting newbies contrary to guideline, that is bad faith. Duckduckstop (talk) 20:14, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
- Bad faith: "(Latin: mala fides) is double mindedness or double heartedness in duplicity, fraud, or deception. It may involve intentional deceit of others, or self-deception." is there anything more duplicitous than "Welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit." i see you have welcomed a newbie, maybe there is hope for you after all. Duckduckstop (talk) 16:38, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- Severely biting a newbie, for example by coming down hard on them for some trivial formatting error, should get any experienced editor a reprimand on their talk page. That does not mean that the experienced editor was acting in bad faith (my opinion here, BTW, is entirely consistent with the definition you posted above). Your passion is admirable, but your lack of civility is not. VQuakr (talk) 19:00, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- yeah right, any reprimands you can remember? betacommand? that's ancient history. and "severe"? how about the continuing biting over a period of years, creating a hostile work environment. you can continue in the blithe self-deception if you will. the hypocracy wouldn't be so bad, except for the sanctimony; the editor decline is the direct result. tit for tat, honi soi qui mal y pense it's not passion; it's resolution. Duckduckstop (talk) 16:24, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
