Wikipedia is not for writing about yourself

Welcome to Wikipedia, but it is not a place like Facebook or LinkedIn for people to write about themselves. It is a quite different sort of site, a project to build an encyclopedia, so it is selective about subjects for articles, and writing about oneself is strongly discouraged, for reasons explained at Wikipedia is not about YOU and Wikipedia:Autobiography.

Wikipedia user pages are not like those at social-networking sites. Their use is explained at WP:NOTWEBHOST:

"Wikipedians have their own user pages, but they should be used primarily to present information relevant to working on the encyclopedia. Limited biographical information is allowed, but user pages should not function as personal webpages or be repositories for large amounts of material that is irrelevant to collaborating on Wikipedia. If you are looking to make a personal webpage or blog or to post your résumé, please make use of one of the many free providers on the Internet or any hosting included with your Internet account."

While your policy is evident, the information is the same and is verified on IMDB and YouTube.

If you look at the history of that page, you will see that it was not started by Carlo Marino, it was started on 11 Jan 2014 by another user, based on Marino's notabilty as an actor, backed up by indepndent references. Marino himself edited it only on one day in September 2014, but his edits were reverted, he was asked not to repeat them without giving sources, and did not. I understand your policy. Nevertheless, the information presented is similar or the same as the information presented on the Carl Marino page. Both Carl Marino and myself are actors that are verified on IMDB and YouTube. Both Carl Marino and myself were involved in newsworthy events. Both Carl Marino and I were involved in viral legal cases, mine reverberating across the entire world. I guess what you are suggesting is that I ask a friend, a family member, or pay someone to write the article. I am only trying to present facts.

Hi Dvdgzzrll. There are over 5,000,000 articles on Wikipedia, and many have been added directly to Wikipedia without being vetted first via Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Wikipedia editors are all volunteers and there are only so many editors regularly checking articles, etc. for problems. This, unfortunately, means that many articles exist which probably do not satisfy relevant notability guidelines for inclusion simply because nobody has gotten around to fixing/deleting them yet. That is why it's better to try and establish how you satisfy Wikipedia's notability guidelines, then simply stating that you should have an article because another similar article exists. It's quite possible that this other article shouldn't be on Wikipedia and will eventually be deleted. What you need to do is establish that you have received the significant coverage required in independent reliable sources to satisfy WP:BIO or WP:NACTOR. If you can do that, then you can request that someone write an article about you. If you are able to provide information about sources which shows that you clearly satisfy Wikipedia's notability guidelines, then there is a good chance that someone at "Requested articles" will be able to help you out. However, without being able to establish that you satisfy Wikipedia's notability guidelines for inclusion, any article about you added to Wikipedia is going to be at risk of deletion regardless of who writes it since any article can be nominated for deletion at any time by any editor and only those topics which clearly are Wikipedia notable tend to be kept. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:33, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

Adding links to YouTube or other videos

Hi Dvdgzzrll. I removed some links to YouTube that you had added what looks like a draft for an article on your to your userpage per WP:COPYLINK and WP:YOUTUBE. Although Wikipedia does not prohibit linking to media found on external websites such as YouTube, you have to be careful to make sure that the site hosting the video, etc. holds the copyright on it. Lots of people upload videos to YouTube that they get from other places and did not create themselves, which is almost surely a violation of YouTube's own Terms of Service. Therefore, linking to such content is expressly forbidden by Wikipedia unless it can be clearly shown to be freely licensed content or content uploaded by the original copyright holder/creator. In general, its pretty safe to link to official YouTube channels of news organization, media companies, etc., but anything from an individual accounts needs to be carefully checked to make sure of it copyright status. Please note that per WP:UP#OWN, a Wikipedian's userpage is not a personal website "owned" by the user in question. Userpages, like pretty much every other page on Wikipedia, can be edited by anyone at anytime; normally, however, experienced editors will refrain from doing so as a courtesy unless there is a serious policy/guideline matter which requires attention, which was the case here. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:54, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

The information or video(s) have not been removed or contested. I have no strikes against me in regards to the YouTube video(s) or my account.

That may be true Dvgzzrll, but Wikipedia policy does not really permit such content to be linked to unless it has been it has clearly been uploaded to YouTube by it's creator/original copyright holder, and simply uploading copyrighted content created by others to YouTube is not really considered to be a transfer of copyright ownership.-- Marchjuly (talk) 02:14, 27 September 2016 (UTC)
