Hello
editI'm the administrator User:Dweller on the English language wikipedia. Using the new unified accounts, I have the same username on nearly all Wikipedias. But not this one! I see that there is a user registered with that name, but the account has just one edit ever, in 2006. I wondered if you could rename it so that I can take over the name, and avoid people pretending to be me? Please respond to Please respond to my English language Wikipedia talk page Many thanks. --194.176.105.39 09:37, 1 Mayıs 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Dweller. I've just renamed that username@trwiki, now tr:Kullanıcı:Dweller is free. You can proceed by SUL. If you have any problems just leave me a message. Bye. --Mskyrider (talk) 13:56, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

editI'm very sorry, but your request cannot be granted right now. The user whose nickname is dweller has made contributions in the article namespace and according to our current policy usernames with edits cannot be usurped. The policy is expected to be changed so as to fit the current circumstances, but at the moment there is nothing that could be done. Sir Wolf (talk) 19:01, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

- "Essex 36 year-old off-spinner John Childs made his debut, the oldest England debutant for 40 years" - If I were reading it, I would be curious to know who the other guy was. Would be good to add it among the references. I think it is Dick Howorth in http://cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Scorecards/18/18238.html but please confirm.

From http://stats.cricinfo.com/statsguru/engine/stats/index.html?agemin1=36;ageval1=age;class=1;debut_or_last=1;filter=advanced;orderby=runs;spanmax2=15+Mar+1989;spanmin2=01+Aug+1947;spanval2=span;team=1;template=results;type=batting;view=match it is quite clear that Howorth was the previous 36+ debutant, and a simple lookup will tell you that he was older than Childs. I don't know if someone will raise the OR flag against it !! Tintin 12:23, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

New Project
editMyself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.
If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 04:47, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Dweller, I don't suppose you could restore this article, as I was in the middle of taking it to AfD (the article at least indicate's some importance, but I want to query the references provided through AfD; also I don't think Speedy G2 was the right criteria to delete it under.) Thanks, Marasmusine (talk) 13:06, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm confused. I've not speedied the article, and I don't think anyone else has, either. I've speedied two vandalisms of the prospective AfD page - I don't think I should recreate them. You can create a good version for yourself! --Dweller (talk) 13:07, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

I was wondering if you would be interested in running WP:FLRC. I am also asking Matthewedwards and if you are both interested, you could co-run it. It really doesn't require two people, but you could also comment and look for unworthy lists (especially amond the early promotions). If you do want to do it, let me know. -- Scorpion0422 02:59, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

editThank you. I'm limited to 30 minutes per day as part of my rehab. program. Nope --- it was self-induced obsession which lead to the melt down. No one but myself to blame for the addiction and the 3:00 am battle of wills. It's amazing how Wikipedia can impact your "real life". I think it was a good idea to back away ... for some reason the gasoline I was pouring on the fire only seemed to make it blaze higher?! --- go figure. Perhaps we all should have heeded your advice. I noticed that a few others closed shop about the same time that I hit the delete key. However, the FA star was priceless and I think the article itself represents an incredible amount of collaboration despite the bloodstains on the discussion tab. No small task considering the topic and the general opposition to Introductory articles. For now I think I will focus on obscure freshwater minnows that absolutely no one gives a shit about! There is a million stubs out there that rookies like myself can improve on. Cheers! --JimmyButler (talk) 03:42, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

editI'm trying to get a 3rd opinion on my almost-sure-to-fail FA for National Ignition Facility. In the first FA back in '06 the comments on the prose were generally positive. Since then I've made vast improvements (IMHO). Yet this FA is dominated by complaints about the prose. Seeing your comments in another FA make me think you're the go-to guy for this? Maury (talk) 17:02, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- Can you suggest a way that I can get this fixed? Every reviewer commented about the prose, but simply put, I don't see it. So someone else needs to take a look at it. Where can I go to have this addressed in a timely fashion that might make it in time for the FA close? This is assuming the copyright issue is solved, which appears extremely unlikely. Rfb participation thanks
editHello, Dweller.
I wanted to personally thank you for taking part in the project-wide discussions regarding my candidacy for bureaucratship. After bureaucratic discussion, the bureaucrats decided that there was sufficient significant and varied opposition to my candidacy, and thus no consensus to promote. Although personally disappointed, I both understand and respect their decision, especially in light of historical conservatism the project has had when selecting its bureaucrats. I especially wanted to thank you for participating in the post-closure 'crat chat discussions. If you have any further suggestions or comments as to how you think I could help the project, please let me know. As you felt the need to remain neutral, I would appreciate any particular thoughts advice you may have as to what flaws in my candidacy you perceived and how you feel they may be addressed. Once again, thank you for your participation. -- Avi (talk) 19:32, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

editEver reached the stage where you've read through an article so many times that you can no longer recognise the most elementary of mistakes? That's the state I've reached with Georgi Kinkladze. From comments at its FAC it is clear that there are still prose issues, so I'm looking for somebody familiar with football to have a quick run through the text. Upcoming collaboration will need admin oversight
editI'm going to attempt to run the largest collaboration I've coordinated (or co-coordinated) to date, in about 2 months. It will be bigger than the WP:TOTD, the Help page redesign, or even the Main page redesign.
It will need an admin or three on hand to help make sure things remain civil, to monitor the 200+ drafts involved, etc.
Are you game?

editHi, Dweller, I saw your message. Some way above it, at The Elven Queen Sails into the West, Clio says farewell, but she also says "I may come back from time to time to see how things are, but I can't be certain". A whole host of people (foolishly, if you ask me) have said tragic farewells as if it's goodbye forever. Bibliomaniac15, the ass, even says "...I find it fitting to give you (hopefully) your last message in this talk page". All of this seems to me to make it bloody hard for poor Clio to put her head around the door, and I strongly suspect she's missing the place already. Would you mind (please) not joining in the chorus and instead look forward to the return? Greetings from Xn4 14:25, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Due to popular demand, HAU has a new look. Since the changes are so dramatic, I may have made some mistakes when translating the data. Please take a look at WP:HAU/EU and make sure your checkmarks are in the right place and feel free to add or remove some. There is a new feature, SoxBot V, a recently approved bot, automatically updates your online/offline status based on the length of time since your last edit. To allow SoxBot V to do this, you'll need to copy [[Category:Wikipedians who use StatusBot]] to your userpage. Obviously you are not required to add this to your userpage, however, without this, your status will always be "offline" at HAU. Thanks. Useight (talk) 17:16, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

editJust a copyedit I think. The FAC failed earlier today. It didn't get many comments, but the outstanding oppose was in relation to prose. Normally I manage OK with copyediting and prose issues, but the number of examples raised took me by surprise, making me realise that I'd become far too familiar with the text to copyedit it with any objectivity. I'll have to explore further avenues for feedback before renominating it. Oldelpaso (talk) 14:12, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Bradman & Stats
editYou can work these out by number how many standard deviations you are from the mean
For example
Move than 2 [actually 1.96] standard deviations above mean is about 2.5% (1/40)
http://davidmlane.com/hyperstat/z_table.html Type 1.96 into the 'above' box
Or look at the x-numbers here:
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4850/1908/1600/sd%20table1.jpg
So Pele is
3.7 ---> 0.000108 ----> 1/9259 (about 1/9300)
The Bradman one is so far out you need to find special website that doesn't have rounding errors, but I calculated it to be as 1/184,000
This is not 'original' research. This is a straight correspondence to the statistical meaning of Standard Deviation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Macgruder (talk • contribs) 13:28, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
