Question. If I understand right (and that's always a question) I think the person in question would be allowed to develop user subpages for article creation, even if s/he were still not allowed on main wikipedia space. The record will show that this party is not really good at citing sources or developing consensus before making changes, those being the two things which most directly led to the current situation. If s/he wanted to do so, would the rules permit this person to try to develop a few articles in userspace during probation, and then shift them into regular space on the conclusion of the period. If they would, I would personally love to see this editor's name appear in the User:Durova/Triple crown winner's circle#Valiant return triple crown winners, and think that there is a reasonable chance that s/he might be able to create two articles which would at least be contenders for FA status during that time. It would also give them a chance to familiarize themselves with referencing and the like. And, again, my thanks for going the extra step in this case. John Carter 14:15, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

As the original author of most of the material included in Bradman's article, I must say I am puzzled by, and not in favour of, the editing and restructure that you have done. It has effected the continuity of the article as originally conceived, why change the section headings? Btw, the regular silly season at Talk:Cricket is open once again, if you're bored and need some rage you can enjoy one person trying valiantly to overturn well-established, tried and (too often) tested consensus without paying any heed to policies or indeed other peoples' arguments. Added a citation for Sir Hack Jobs. For only runout, 12 runs, 636 runs etc, if we give a stats guru link at the end, it will cover all these, and I wonder citing each one separately may be unnecessary and make the whole thing less readable. Btw, the very first citation is very shaky - an article which has nothing to do with cricket, just mentions it in passing, while talking about an individual who died sixty years ago..... Is "universally acknowledged" true anyway ? - while it is pretty much so at the moment (since all we have for comparison with the oldies are the stats), I suspect that he had many detractors in his time, but this is probably more for the three Johns (Lp, Hall and Blackjack) to comment on. Saw your comment on Raul's page

I just wanted to throw my two cents in on the matter. Pictures do not add appreciably to the size of an article in any way since they are actually linked to instead of being embedded within the file. The programmers of Wikipedia place images in another place and the images are pulled up in various articles as requested when pages are loaded. As an example, here is your talk page without a picture:

If you will look at your history page for your talk page, you will notice the difference in byte sizes (a difference of only 77 bytes) is only the number of characters in ":Here it is WITH a picture: [[Image:Wikipedesketch1.png|thumb|The Wikipede]]" and does not include the size of a picture. Hey, check out Image:BestTestAverages.png. Is that the sort of thing you were talking about? Depending on how it needs to be used, I can always make it a lot thinner (i.e. if it was going to sit down one edge of the article). Perhaps there's a good argument for a Cricketing statistics of Donald Bradman (or similar) sub-article?

Yes, well the URL for the source is provided, but it's cricinfo, and before I forget it's here. The only disclaimer needed is minimum 20 innings and stats correct up to and including 10 August 2007. If you only want completed careers then let me know and I'll do another, and if you want to set the innings higher then let me know that too, not a problem. I reckon I could knock another one in next to no time now I'm set up.

Well it would depend who reviewed it (!) but some reviewers who are more used to FA criteria will expect citations all over the place, I'd be happy with one citation per "contentious statement", which someone told me meant "something that may be disputed" - not very clear because you could, arguably, dispute anything! I'd focus on expanding the prose, keep in-line with the WP:MOS, ref where you can and you should end up with a good article. The Rambling Man 12:43, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Dweller - I've been attempting to get the RFC at Talk:Operation Entebbe to show up at the RFC page, copying and re-copying the template from other pages where it seems to work perfectly. I've still not got it to show up, but deleting the reference you'd added was part of my increasingly desperate attempts to fix it ..... do you know something that I don't? Yes, I have used 5 tildes. And I waited 2 hours before deciding it must be a spelling problem on my part, not a "slow system" issue. Could you look at Image:AswadStoning.jpg and the pertinent discussion at Du’a Khalil Aswad please? User: Cshay wants to have the image removed from the Du’a Khalil Aswad page because he feels it is too graphic for Wikipedia. After failing to find support on the talk page, he has tagged the image with “Possible Copyright Infringement.” The picture already has a clear fair use rationale, and is necessary to the article. Hi. i did post a message to User:Whitmorewolveyr's page but then I realised you blocked the user, so I'll direct the message to you instead. Recently I listed a requested move for Milan Central station to Milano Centrale station. Although I am not against the move which I proposed, User:Whitmorewolveyr moved the page with no discussion and by cutting and pasting, both of which I am sure violates Wikipedia policy and the GFDL lisence agreement. Flex Nibs article deleted

This article seems to have been deleted solely on the grounds that it was one of several articles I wrote that referenced Richard Binder's website. Binder is probably the greatest living authority on vintage fountain pens and one of only two living people who can actually make true flex nibs: referencing him in articles of some aspects of fountain pen construction is inevitable.

Yes, Binder does make his living from restoring pens, and his website also offers these services - but often such people are the only ones with the expertise and motivation to provide informative and authoritative references. As a general principle, would-be self-appointed anti-spambots should use the discussion mechanism rather than deleting just "because the link is used a lot of times". A good reference site will often be used a lot of times because it is good!

I'm rather concerned by this user: all his edits (except one trivial one) target companies owned by the Richemont Group and either add attention drawing stuff or remove unfavorable information and/or restored delete promotional material. RE: Caitlin Upton

Is Caitlin Upton notable? She won the South Carolina Miss Teen USA pageant apparently, she finished fourth in the nationally televised event, and she is an internet celebrity because of this video. How is that not notable? There are piles of other beauty pageant profiles who base their notability on things like "appeared in commerical". Why aren't you deleting these? Why are these pageants listed at all on the wikipedia, if their participants are completly unimportant? Is it important to continually update the list of winners, and then disallow users from adding context?

Second you said I didn't provide source material. I provided a link to the video. Is actual video of an event not considered source material? Should I wait for the AP to write an article about the video and then post that? Would that blessing be sufficient? Furthermore, the number of views of that video adds credence to my first point, that she is, in fact, notable.

Please repost the article, or address these questions I have raised.

Well, I've got another related issue Ill be posting about now. As to that specific case, the judge was impressed with my arguements and refused to enforce the provision in the constitution--I could have pressed the issue, but I could tell the judge was willing to go easier on me if I didn't... I got my fine cut by over 60%, so it was good I went to trial.

The prosecutor, however, seemed shocked and tried to argue the provision didn't apply. I could tell I caught him off gaurd but the judge told him not to worry about it. XM 19:27, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Spot of Sock-like bother

Hi. You're easily the kindest non-supporter I've had on my RfA (for which I thank you profusely), and so I wonder if I could request your assistance. I've been having a lot of problems with user Danielthesaint, over at the Docklands Light Railway article, as is very, very evident in the history and on the talk page. His IP (78.86.0.134) has been blocked for a gross violation of WP:3RR on that article, his username has now also been blocked. Problem is, he's created a sock, User: Serco dlr, which he has used a) to attack my talk page (see here), and b) to attack my RfA - first oppose on the list (he hasn't quite mastered putting responses at the bottom). As it's my own RfA, I'm not keen on removing the vote - I wonder if you could possibly take a look and remove the offending vote, if you feel it appropriate given the evidence. Having not dealt particularly with socks before, I'd also appreciate it if you point me in the right direction as to what to do about this situation - Danielthesaint is blocked, but is using Serco dlr to circumvent that. Thanks for the advice - never thought of that :P! Actually, there is something you could do for me. This user is just creating sock after sock after sock, and using a variety of IPs, and using the lot to attack me - take a look at the histories on my user and talk pages. I don't suppose you could semi-protect my user and talk pages for a short while? Say, 48 hours or something like that? I can keep reverting, as can others (I love RC patrollers), but it's getting kinda grating now - maybe a short stint where he can't do anything will make him give up. I don't see much of a consensus yet, but it is leaning towards either merge or delete. The difficulty is asserting genuine notability, as I said in my comment, I'm not sure if this would set a precedent for everyone to put in notable matches (e.g. Ipswich 4-2 Barnsley, last club game at Wembley, Ipswich's first playoff success in four attempts, promotion to the Premiership followed by UEFA qualification...) so don't be disheartened. Kits a pretty standard on match articles (see the Bayern Munich category that the article is in). I'd say they're about as encyclopaedic as much of the other content, it all adds background to the match details. Per the notice at the school ip talkpage, 1 year is the maximum tariff - thus I blocked at the maximum duration. I applied the max since the last block, that had just expired, was for six months and I escalated the duration accordingly. I hope this answers your concerns.
