WikiCup 2010 January newsletter

We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. We've had some shakeups regarding late entries, flag changes and early dropouts, but the competition is now established- there will be no more flag changes or new competitors. Congratulations to   Sasata (submissions), our current leader, who, at the time of writing, has more listed points than   Hunter Kahn (submissions) and   TonyTheTiger (submissions) (second and third place respectively) combined. A special well done also goes to   Fetchcomms (submissions)- his artcle Jewel Box (St. Louis, Missouri) was the first content to score points in the competition.

Around half of competitors are yet to score. Please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. 64 of the 149 current competitors will advance to round 2- if you currently have no points, do not worry, as over half of the current top 64 have under 50 points. Everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places in round 2! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, by email or on IRC. Good luck! Nonsense Article

Hi Again,

I need help figuring out what to do with the following article; Helen Razer. I'm still pretty much a Wikipedia novice, and I want to ensure that I am taking the right steps. The article, in all its forms (past and present), appears to be complete nonsense. I have nominated it for speedy deletion on the grounds that it is pure vandalism or what Wikipedia terms a "hoax." I hope this was the proper course of action. Advice or assistace would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help!

I should add that one of my biggest concerns is whether or not I nominated the article for deletion under the correct category. The article's "editors" (most of which are unregistered IP addresses) change / edit the article on such a frequent basis that is difficult to keep up with all the issues (check the article history if you have any questions as to what I mean.) Thanks again!

Semi-retirement

I'll miss having you around ... in fact, I already do, because I've noticed you've not been editing as much lately. I think, though, that it's good to take a break once in a while, and if you find a hobby that fits you better then it's good to retire too. But if you should ever decide to return, I'll be one of the first to welcome you back. Soap 22:32, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Dito, you were probably the first Wikipedian who knew the situation that I was in when I first joined. (Myspacing and all) I'll miss you.--Coldplay Expért Let's talk 22:46, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks guys, but I have changed my mind. If I'm becoming active at other sites, then that doesn't mean I have to leave this one – I've cherished Wikipedia ever since I became active here back in August 2008. Who knows? Maybe I'll finally muster the focus to become the featured list mogul I've always wanted to be. But first, allow me to go on a spree of Family Guy-related general fixes. Ta! (P.S.: For some reason, when I announced my semi-retirement, I became enticed to return. I guess that was an omen.) --Dylan620 (contribs, logs) 18:13, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Hello!

Hi! I saw your name on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User and was wondering if you were still taking new adoptees. I see in the above conversation that you may be taking a break; if so, that's fine. If not, you look very experienced and I'd love to learn the ropes from you. Sheeana (talk) 09:20, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Actually, I called that break off, so I'll be more than happy to adopt you. What would you like to learn about? --Dylan620 (contribs, logs) 17:46, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
Brilliant, thanks! And welcome back. :-) I'm not entirely sure what I'd like to contribute to. I was looking yesterday at things like the recent changes button and article cleanup. Is there any area you'd particularly recommend a beginner start at? Sheeana (talk) 21:12, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Odd?

Is'nt it odd that your adoptee, (aka:me) passed on to round 2 in the wikicup and you did'nt even score! What happened?--Coldplay Expért Let's talk 17:48, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Congrats! Most of my time was spent away from the computer. Didn't really have a tremendous chance to get many points... --Dylan620 (contribs, logs) 18:25, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
Well thanks. Going into round 2, I've already got 2 (maybe 3) DYK's and I'm working on number 4 right now.--Coldplay Expért Let's talk 18:29, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
