Smith of the Giants

Are you sure Smith was born in Woodland Hills, because I thought that was his hometown and that he was born in Alsaska, but never have had a source that specifically says Anchorage? There is a difference between hometown and birthplace, but Smith is a non talker and never really differenated between the two places. Ositadinma 22:29, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Okay, now I'm confused. On his Giants bio, it says he was born in Woodland Hills at his quickstats box in the top right, but if you click the Personal section, it says he was born in Alaska. I would assume he was born in Alaska and raised in Woodland Hills, but there really isn't anything saying he was born in Anchorage. Eagles 24/7 (C) 23:41, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
That is exactly what I am saying. When you google his name and birthplace most will say Alaska, a couple will say Anchorage, Alaska and one even says Canoga Park, California. The reason why I think I know that he was raised in Woodland Hills is because of the Madden football series were players are listed by hometown instead of birthplace; like Umenyiora's hometown of Auburn (born in London). So I would say he was probably born in Alaska. As for the city it could be, 1) Anchorage was the nearest city were he was born, 2) He was born in an unincoparted part of Alaska and deemed it apporpiate to list Anchorage because that is one of two cities in Alaska which most people know of or, 3) He has no idea what city he was born in I've seen that before. ;) Ositadinma 23:57, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you those quickstats boxes are wrong. They are suppose to say hometown instead of birthplace. Umenyiora's says Auburn when he was born in London. They just got things mixed up. Ositadinma 00:03, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
Well I put on his page that he was born in Alaska (until the official city is confirmed) and his hometowns are Canoga Park, California and Woodland Hills, California, just in case there is confusion. Not sure about where he resides currently though (see Personal section). Eagles 24/7 (C) 01:46, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Probably Jersey (that's also where he was robed at gunpoint; forcing Plax to carry a gun), were most Giants players reside in the season. Also we may never know were he was born. Maybe he just doesn't like Wiki editors and wants to make are jobs harder. :-) Ositadinma 02:53, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

That's exactly what I think. Eagles 24/7 (C) 19:04, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
Lots of websites end up putting the birth place as the place where the guy grew up and/or played high school ball, because it's prominently listed in their college bio. If you have two possible options, the birth place is pretty much always the place where he didn't play high school. In Smith's case, we know where he played college ball, and we know it wasn't Alaska, but we do know he has at times been listed as having been born in Alaska. That means Alaska is the correct birth place, and any ones that say differently are merely listing his "hometown."►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:18, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Kafka picture

There's some good ones on Flickr, but they're all copyrighted. However, all of them are taken by Kevin Pivoli (an AP photographer) who has his own website which if you wish you can contact him through. WP:OTRS should have more info on this sinc he'd have to e-mail Wikipedia verifying he's releasing it for use here.--Giants27(c|s) 02:27, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

I have seen those pictures but there are two users that have good pictures uploaded: ZROPhotography and CollegeFootballPics. Which one is Kevin Rivoli? Eagles 24/7 (C) 20:33, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
If you click on one of CollegeFootballPics's images, they say (AP Photo/Kevin Rivoli) so realistically he probably shouldn't be uploading them to Flickr since they're copyrighted from use.--Giants27(c|s) 21:14, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
...Or maybe CollegeFootballPics uploaded them without his permission? Eagles 24/7 (C) 21:26, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
Nah Eagles 24/7 (C) 21:27, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
I e-mailed the person who handles his licensing permissions using one of the example letters. Eagles 24/7 (C) 21:57, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
If he accepts, make sure he e-mails the OTRS team at info-en@wikimedia.org--Giants27(c|s) 22:12, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
Got it. Eagles 24/7 (C) 22:14, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
He e-mailed back and said that the images are copyright of the Associated Press and that I'd have to call them to obtain the usage rights. Eagles 24/7 (C) 22:42, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
Thinking about it, not only should I have gone to the SU-Northwestern game, but WP:CHICAGO could help take a picture or upload one if they already took but didn't upload it.--Giants27(c|s) 22:46, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
Yea, good idea. Eagles 24/7 (C) 22:53, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the barnstar. – Zntrip 19:46, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Y?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Why are you using NFLActive boxes? Is a team going to lure Steve Young, Terry Bradshaw, Joe Montana, or John Elway out of retirement? There's no purpose for this! It's like every contribution I do for this site is all middle fingers for everyone. Why can't one of MY edits be right?

Alakazam 15:48, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

(TPS) Because it's the new way of doing things, the NFLactive infobox has been made compatible for use on articles for retired players, thus the process of removing NFLretired from pages has started. Hopefully by next season, that damn thing can be redirected.--Giants27(c|s) 19:55, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
(ec) No team is going to lure these players out of retirement, but it's not like the infobox has them all listed as free agents. I understand that you are frustrated that all of your hard work has been reverted, but this will make switching over the infoboxes when players retire easier for everyone. If you want to help switch over all the NFLretired infoboxes to NFLactive, you can do so by checking out the list of pages that have NFLretired infoboxes transcluded in them. It would be a big help and no one would think your contributions were like "all middle fingers". Eagles 24/7 (C) 19:58, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Jason Avant

I admit he is not prominent in the image. However, in the context of an offense with future NFL-ers all around isn't it better than nothing.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 04:24, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Re: User:68.50.106.25, I have noted that the recent edits may well have been in good faith. The talk page message is a little concerning but over a month old and I see no immediate concerns. As an admin I'm fairly inexperienced at AIV but we all have to start somewhere, so please let me know if I did something strange/or if you really disagree. NFLretired vs. NFLactive

Eagles247, with NFLactive yoou don't have the links to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and/or the College Football Hall of Fame that many former `players had in their infobox. Please fix that inbox. 201.134.255.253 (talk) 20:19, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Eagles, not sure if you know this, but I rock. :P I've added the hall of fame links to the infobox.--Giants27(c|s) 20:51, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Well I guess that clears it up, thanks Giants27. Eagles 24/7 (C) 20:59, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

User talk: Warning #1

Hello Eagles247. I was issued a warning that my contribution to the wiki article on "Twister(game)" was removed. I was reading the reference / citation area, and a random sentence said "Emily Hughes LOVES the cock." So I decided to get a Wikipedia account and remove it, because it kinda bugged me that much. So why was it not a contribution?

Thank you

I've declined your speedy request on this. Since it's ineligible for A3 because it's an article. If you want to re-tag, R2 would make most sense.--Giants27(c|s) 00:57, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

My bad, I meant R3.--Giants27(c|s) 01:01, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I think. =) Eagles 24/7 (C) 01:04, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Kevin Newsome

Hello! Your submission of Kevin Newsome at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Geraldk (talk) 02:37, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

I changed the hook to make it more "astounding". Eagles 24/7 (C) 02:53, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Why are you requesting speedy deletion. I'm an big Eagles fan too, with a story of a man that I need to tell. Why can't someone who has survived the devastation of years of NFC championships and now only wants to tell a great man's story do just that? If you are truly Eagles 24/7 you'd be watching comcast sports night and listing kyw and not busting some poor currently out of town fan's balls. Very inapporpiate. Things like these get you blocked. Be curtious. There is a reason why he did it. Ositadinma 05:45, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Chaz Ramirez

You've deleted my article without giving me a chance to defend it. Chaz Ramirez is notable in that he was the owner of the most important recording studio in the history of American punk rock music and he was a producer and sometimes-member of Social Distortion which is a world famous band. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MortyForty (talkcontribs) 00:30, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Done and done.

One more bad edit and our little friend is going to join the Pantheon of Permanently Blocked Users.  :) Thanks for the alert. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 03:12, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

  • Ditto, bro. I can't always think of new content, so it's during those times I get to dodge and parry the onslaught of, well, nonsense. We persist. Logging out for awhile; I don't have internet at my new place yet and probably won't for a few days or so. Regards, --PMDrive1061 (talk) 03:17, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

It can be. Once I get back on line at home, I plan on fixing up some of my originals which have been languishing for too long. I also promised myself to bring a certain article up to FA status since I haven't had an FA in years. The vandalism can lead to burnout, believe me. However, anyone who's willing to roll up the proverbial sleeves and get dirty is A-OK in my book. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 03:22, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Hello could you please stop deleting facts that i added because the page about him is not complete. So stop deleting facts.—Preceding unsigned comment added by DonFredek (talkcontribs) 02:43, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

If you dont know anything about ethnic and regional history or whether you are just taking yourself to seriously remains to be seen.If you dont stop deleting my changes that help to make the page morte complete and are not based on opinions rather facts i will have to take other measures—Preceding unsigned comment added by DonFredek (talkcontribs) 02:49, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

This region is one of the most multiethnical regions in the world.Just because borders changed over centuries it does not mean someone is strictly ukrainian, polish, lithuanian or belarussian.it was and is impossible in this part of the world. And the fact is(that you deletd so there goes your argument that you only delete things that are not facts)that he is in the polish american sports hall of fame.So he is polish and ukrainian.BOTH and propably jewish or armenian, lithuanian, belarussian in too.So how can you write that you are russian, romanian, lithuanian and polish?why are you not choosing one then? You are illogical and uneducted.GET YOUR FACTS RRIGHT AND LEARN SOMETHING ABOUT HISTORY FIRST—Preceding unsigned comment added by DonFredek (talkcontribs) 02:56, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

DYK for Kevin Newsome

On October 21, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Kevin Newsome, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.
