- Hello. I realise that my article doesn't have a great deal of content at this point, but I think that your rejection was rather hasty. The reason why I created this page was precisely because I was reading about Jânio Quadros, president of Brazil in 1961, and when I tapped on the link for the PTN, the party that he was affiliated to at the time, I was redirected to the current party known as Podemos, which I heard described on a recent visit to Brazil as being "far-right". This is extremely misleading, and it was my immediate confusion that caused me to create this article (I'll admit that it's my first time, but I guess I need a bit of encouragement here, not such hasty rejection!)
- Brazilian politics is notorious for its ever-shifting tectonic plates, and the name of a party often means very little. Many parties are considered to be "rental" parties, i.e. vehicles to rent for people who are seeking to boost their political profile, and thus it is normal for some politicians to have several political homes in their careers. It is also important to bear in mind that there was a twenty year interregnum of military rule in Brazil from 1964 to 1984, during which all but two officially condoned political parties were banned (as of the Institutional Act of 27/10/1965). The party currently known as "Podemos", and previously also known as the PTN, may claim historical lineage from the original party, but this is pretty dubious, to say the very least. During the 30 years between the dissolution of the former and the formation of the latter, many things happened. It is certainly hard to argue that the current party has a great deal in common ideologically with the original.
- As further evidence I'll point out that the two parties have distinct and disambiguated pages in Portuguese:
- https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podemos_(Brasil)
- ...and I also want to draw your attention to the following three links about a very similar case, in English!
- The second of those three is very illustrative, in fact, of how deceptive names can be in Brazilian politics. The party currently known as the Brazilian Labour Party bears little historical resemblance to the original, and is merely one of the multiplicity of "vehicles" for personalities (and let's face it, money!!!). The story of that party's creation is very interesting. In the years leading up to the restoration of democracy, the military regime allowed the formation of a party with that name, in 1981, precisely in order to prevent the legitimate successors from reforming under that name. Therefore the only choice for the successors of the original party, led by Leonel Brizola, was to found a party with a different name (the third link)! The party going by the name of "Brazilian Labour Party" is nothing of the sort, and is essentially a right-wing party which has rarely if ever given full-blooded support to presidential candidate from the left, and which in recent years has been flirting with the populist far right.
- Look, I do realise that my article isn't so long, and that's because I'm not a big expert on that very specific subject. Also, it's my first attempt to create an article on here so I'm still learning, but I do have Brazilian friends who have explained some of these matters to me, and I think it's normal to expect that there should be a similar degree of disambiguation in the international language as there is in Portuguese. Of course I'll do a bit more research, in order to fill it in a bit, but in the meantime (if I've understood correctly the meaning of the term) it could just be a "stub", inviting further contributions, couldn't it? - @Eastofeast: Expand the draft and it would stand a better chance at working as a standalone article. Happy editing! 〜 Festucalex • talk 15:32, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
- OK, just don't delete it please! I'll need to ask my Brazilian friends a few questions. Also, I should point out that the English version of the article about Podemos looks rather partisan to me, and that doesn't surprise me since their whole shtick is about internet direct democracy, similar to Five Star in Italy. It would hardly be surprising if they were using Wikipedia to boost their profile. Eastofeast (talk) 15:37, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Eastofeast: Don't worry, it's not getting deleted any time soon. Just be sure to do a little edit every 6 months (if it takes you that long) so that the draft won't get stale and get WP:G13'd. Otherwise, you're fine. Be sure to include reliable sources (see WP:RS). 〜 Festucalex • talk 17:16, 31 July 2023 (UTC)

- Also, sorry, one more question. I could, for the time being, just take the Portuguese article, which is of course more substantial, translate it, and then edit a bit. How about that? Eastofeast (talk) 16:00, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Eastofeast: Perfectly fine. Just be sure to include reliable sources (WP:RS). 〜 Festucalex • talk 17:17, 31 July 2023 (UTC)

Devonian Wombat (talk) 02:05, 5 August 2023 (UTC)- Hi, thanks for accepting my article so quickly! I don't really know how I can get it better than C class for the time being, as I was just using limited information that I could find online. My Portuguese isn't good enough to dig much deeper than I did! I just took the Portuguese article and ended up having to improve it a bit. I looked at the pages referenced there (half of them were dead links in fact), and found a few more bits and pieces in Portuguese and English. That'll have to do :~)
- Anyway, I'm happy enough with a C for a first attempt. Thanks! Eastofeast (talk) 19:14, 5 August 2023 (UTC)
