Image copyright problem with Image:A boy with roses.1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:A boy with roses.1.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Can you please explain why you say there are no restrictions on this image (and also add a source)? The default state of any "creative work" (such as photos) is full copyright protection, so unless we can point to an explicit statement from the copyright holder that all rights have been released we can not claim that there are in fact no rights reserved. Having an image appear on a couple of websites without copyright notice does not change anyting. If you can not "prove" that an image is free then do not upload it as such, especialy not after if have previously been deleted for this very reason. If you have permission to release the image as "no rights reserved" as one of your edit summaries suggested please read Wikipedia:Confirmation of permission for the proper way to log this proof with the foundation. Also note that a simple "permission to use on Wikipedia" is unfortunately not sufficient. If we are to use the copyright tag you have been putting un the image we need to copyright holder of the image to explicitly say that it's ok for anyone to use the image for anyting, including making modifications and using it for commercial purposes, a simple "you may use it on Wikipedia" permission is just not free enough, we need our content to be re-usable by others under the terms of the GFDL license (or another compatable or more free license) and material that Wikipedia only have permission to use is simply not compatable with that. --Sherool (talk) 18:11, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Maverick-HS.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Maverick-HS.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
