I replaced it with a link to all the photos in commons, as I said. The gallery distracted too much from the rest of the article - and didn't really add any interest. I had also read one of the WP guideline things, which I can't lay my hands on just now, that had suggested that galleries were only appropriate if they were needed to to convey something that could not be conveyed with just one or two images combined with good text. It is regarded as poor etiquette to edit somebody else's User Page without being invited to do so. It is like me walking onto your sitting room without knocking. Please don't do it again. Oops, my prolific and humble apologies. I still don't know how I did that, I thought I was in the actual article (it certainly looked like it!). I didn't even know there were places like that with private copies. And I thought I was being all cool too, editing a grown-up looking article - but was actually making myself look like an incompetent idiot! Apologies accepted. If am busy making a change in respect of the use of French and English for international use as opposed to French domestic use. I knew that it would take a number of edits so rather than edit the original (and annoy any readers0, I made a copy, I am working on that and plan to return it once I have made my updates.
