OK perfect. The next step is what we call peer review (see WP:PR). I have already asked the community to peer review the article at Wikipedia:Peer review/Almon Harris Thompson/archive1 but for some reason our automated system has not picked it up yet. Don't worry, it will in a couple of hours.

In addition to that I would like you to visit WP:ADOPT so that you can receive one-on-one mentorship while you get accustomed to Wikipedia. I myself I'm not a member of that initiative and, as such, cannot adopt you, but I highly recommend you request so.

I'm also interested in your history group contributing to Wikipedia. I'm trying to figure out if we have something like that. I believe the closest to that is what we call Wikipedia:Online Ambassadors. Is your history group just a group of friends or a formal group/institution? If it's the latter I'm pretty sure that we can arrange something.

Finally, I would like you to get familiarized with something that we call WikiProjects. They are groups of people that share similar interests and work together in specific subject areas within Wikipedia. There is one for American history at Wikipedia:WikiProject United States. Go join them and say hi at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject United States.

In the meantime, as you get accustomed to Wikipedia, feel free to ask technical questions at the WP:TEAHOUSE, as well as for any questions related to political matters (remember, Wikipedia is edited by people so you will get into some sort of political quarrel at some point). If you can't find the answer to what you are looking for, you can always drop me a line at my talk page and I will try my best to help you out.

Thanks for the wonderful help in walking me through my first page. I'll be sure to check out all the activities and groups you recommend. Although our history group is pretty informal, we do operate under non-profit status as the Wayne County (Utah) Historical Society. Our group meets once per week. A local historian provides a lecture related to theme, then we share our knowledge and resources related to the topic. For 2013, we've decided to specifically cross check our activities with Wikipedia and identify areas of need. I'm guessing many of these will be edits to existing pages. My doctoral minor was computer science, so I'm enjoying the techie aspects of the challenge as well as the content elements.

Have you met User:Etlib? She's a technology librarian at IU Bloomington and a campus ambassador; I've worked with her face-to-face somewhat and benefited from it. I'm in my final semester at SLIS Bloomington and a longtime Wikipedian; I'd be happy to try to help with any questions you may have.
