photo for the world/inferno page

hello, how are you? Your 'will get grumpy' line made me laugh very happily. I am just trying to get a more recent photo of the group up but am clearly out of my depth. Perhaps i'll ask some young person to do it. Hope you are well. The Super Bowl is irking me so i need to get out of this free internet bar.

I'm not sure what occured when I did the "Upload File" and the copyright info did transfer over, but I returned and entered the information in the edit for File:Lin Brehmer.jpg. Could you please check for accuracy? If information is missing or still incorrect, I would be happy to re-load and/or correct? Thanks.Docob5 (talk) 00:36, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Martin Villafana

Martin Villafana should not be deleted. He is an actual actor from Canada that provided voice work. He did play Myron, Quincy and Sumilidon. Check the credits for all of the shows for yourself. I respect all voice actors from United States and Canada and just because actors such as himself do not receive publicity due to working in the background does not mean they are of no importance. So, please, do not delete Martin Villafana, instead help me improve the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PeanutButterMarshallowTime (talkcontribs) 01:11, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Have you actually read the notice and do you understand why the article is up for deletion? Eeekster (talk) 02:15, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Lemaitre Picture which was Deleted

Hello,

I have explicit permission from the group Lemaitre to use this image for their Wikipedia page I am creating and permission by the author, Johannes Greve Muskat, to use, change, and attribute this to him (Creative Commons License 3.0). I have the message they have sent me for verification if the need to provide it is required. Please let me know what the problem was.

I downloaded it directly from Lemaitre's Facebook page as they themselves linked it to me. I can find it on a different website if that is the problem. Please let me know what I can do to fix this issue and prevent this or any other issue to happen again.

Here are the steps I took when uploading the picture:

1. Name

2. Provided Author's name and link to Author's work

3. Provided Source and Source link

4. Provided License Information

Let me know if the above is insufficient to satisfy the copyright criteria. I would like to avoid this issue again. I hope also that I can be recognized as a contributor who does not intend to infringe copyrights but has a history of doing many edits.

Thank you so much!

Benjips (talk) 03:22, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

We can't just take your word for the permission. It'll have to come from the copyright owner. Eeekster (talk) 04:45, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the response, Eeekster! So moving forward, I'd like to know how I can get the image from the copyright owner. Suppose the owner has poor knowledge of Wikipedia and cannot upload the picture? How are they to do this? How can I make sure it comes from the copyright owner? Benjips (talk) 04:52, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
Please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Eeekster (talk) 21:57, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

NXT Divas Pictures.

Im not sure what I did wrong? Could you tell because I got them from Google & I thought that was free to everyone.

When did getting photos from Google make them public domain? Eeekster (talk) 08:30, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Uhm hello, I said Im not sure what I did wrong. Obviously I didn't know that they were not public domain. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DJ8946 (talkcontribs) 08:38, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

File:LynnHillNoseFinalPitch.jpg

Why do you think this doesn't meet fair use requirements? I'm pretty good with fair use rationales, so let's talk it through. Thanks! Wadewitz (talk) 22:21, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

She's not dead so a picture can be taken. Eeekster (talk) 22:24, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Um, there are many fair use pictures on Wikipedia of alive people. Also, this picture can never be retaken, because it is of her most famous climb, which is never going to happen again. It is a once-in-a-lifetime type of thing. Wadewitz (talk) 22:37, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Please see WP:OTHERSTUFF. Eeekster (talk) 22:40, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Please see WP:NFC#UUI: "However, for some retired or disbanded groups, or retired individuals whose notability rests in large part on their earlier visual appearance, a new picture may not serve the same purpose as an image taken during their career, in which case the use would be acceptable." - This is the crucial point. This was taken during a specific point in her career and cannot be retaken. It serves to illustrate her most famous climb and her climbing in general. It cannot be retaken. Also, see WP:NFCI: "Iconic or historical images that are themselves the subject of sourced commentary in the article are generally appropriate. Iconic and historical images which are not subject of commentary themselves but significantly aid in illustrating historical events may be used judiciously, but they must meet all aspects of the non-free content criteria, particularly no free alternatives, respect for commercial opportunity, and contextual significance." Wadewitz (talk) 22:52, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
I'm going to have to agree with Wadewitz here. This photo represents an incredible feat in their lifetime, and to say that it can be retaken is an incredibly poor argument to delete it. This image was taken over twenty years ago, so it is possible that she wouldn't even be able to make the climb again. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 22:57, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Schools

Hi there. Please consider not PRODing or not AfDing non notable primary (elementary) and middle schools. Instead, in order to save time and user resources, please consider redirecting them yourself according to the long standing precedent documented at WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES. To do this, please ensure that the school is at least listed on the target page which should generally be the article about the school district (in the USA) or the article about the school's location. Please remember to include the {{R from school}} on the redirect page as it automatically populates an important category, and if you need any help, don't hesitate to ask me on my talk page. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 23:40, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Please check it if you can, it is useful since there is no link to the book, which is in the public domain. Thanks mate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NikeGoddess (talkcontribs) 22:59, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

What makes you think Lainey Keogh is not notable?

Just curious... she seems pretty much notable to me. Certainly well known enough to have her designs namechecked in a lot of women's novels from the last 10 years, but I didn't use any of those as sources. I won't remove it as I am the article creator so there would be a COI, but I'm questioning your call. Mabalu (talk) 21:44, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

If you think she's notable, discuss it on the article's talk page. Eeekster (talk) 22:04, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

File:Yahoo.com Main Page 2-20-2013 reduced.jpg

I'm confused as to what else I need to do. I had reduced the quality of my original image and re-uploaded it as File:Yahoo.com Main Page 2-20-2013 reduced.jpg. Do I need to do anything else or is everything OK? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Y2j420 (talkcontribs) 15:29, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

You didn't need to upload to a new name. Eeekster (talk) 20:48, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Notability Guidelines for Daehyun Elementary School

Hi Eeekster,

Just wondering why the warning about notability was added to the top of this article I created: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daehyun_Elementary_School

The article contains many 3rd party sources and was approved by other Wikipedia editors. Can you please tell me what else I can do to demonstrate notability? If the issue is about the majority of references being in Korean, I can assure you that it is very difficult to find English sources for elementary schools in Korea. The Korean sources I've cited are from reliable, local news agencies. To quote the "Wikipedia:Verifiability" article for citing sources:

"Because this is the English Wikipedia, English-language sources are preferred over non-English ones, assuming English sources of equal quality and relevance are available."

Since non-English sources are the only sources available, it seems as though the ones I've provided should be sufficient. Additionally, the "Wikipedia:Reliable sources" states:

"Verifiable sources may have technical or personal restrictions (written in languages other than English, on websites that require a certain software, available on a type of media that requires the reader to have a certain type of technological appliance to access it)

The costs or difficulties of verifying a source do not impact on its reliability, as long as it can be verified in a reasonable time frame by someone.

Where a source is difficult to verify, or in a language other than English, many editors appreciate the courtesy of supplying the relevant paragraph and ensuring it can be read by English language readers. When sources of equal quality are available the ease of access may be preferred, but if sources of higher quality are difficult to verify, that difficulty alone is not a reason to disregard such sources or replace them with lower-quality ones."

I did a quick search to find other articles about elementary schools to see how they were cited, and ended up with countless examples that had exactly zero references for their Wikipedia articles and these pages have been around for years. Most of these pages just listed their school's official website (which I have also done with the page for Daehyun).

I appreciate your help with this. I would hate to see the article get deleted. My students worked very hard to research their school and translate the information to English. Thank you for your time.

Hi Rystheguy!
This essay discusses some "common outcomes" for elementary schools when they are nominated for deletion. Generally elementary schools do not pass Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for "notability", and are often "re-directed" to the place they are located in or their school district.
There are exceptions. Some elementary schools are notable in their own right. For example:
Hope this helps!
Peter aka --Shirt58 (talk) 09:09, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for your quick response, Peter.
I'm curious about what defines a school as primary or secondary. Daehyun Elementary School is also used as a high-school academy after regular classes are finished. Additionally, high school students receive credit by being involved in a mentoring program at our school where they work with young students during regular school hours. Would including this information in the article help to establish sufficient notability? The Rochelle School of the Arts that you mentioned, seems only minorly notable, but because it teaches students until the 8th grade, that minor notability is sufficient? Because the Wikipedia:Notability (high schools) article seems to say that age range or grades taught are not enough to establish the school as a secondary school. If I understand correctly, the criteria for being considered a secondary school is that the school must provide certification that education at the secondary level has been acquired. If that's the case, I believe that Daehyun could be considered a secondary institution, even if it's not the primary use of the school.
