Hi Egolub. I saw that you're this file you uploaded has been deleted. I also saw from this edit sum that this has sort of left you a bit PO'd. Please try and understand that lots of files are uploaded to Wikipedia daily and that there are only some many editors willing to try and sort through them all to figure out which ones are OK and which ones aren't. This means that mistakes made in good-faith are bound to happen. Any mistake made, however, can usually be fixed. Image files which are deleted aren't really gone forever; they are only hidden from public view and can be easily undeleted once whatever issues they have are sorted out.

In this particular case, the same photo had been previously uploaded by another person to Wikimedia Commons as c:File:Bill Gasarch.jpg, but was subsequently deleted by a Commons adminstrator for lacking proper permission. It's possible that the editor who tagged your upload for speedy deletion, saw this and just assumed this was another copyvio. To be fair, images deleted from Commons being subsequently re-uploaded to Wikipedia does happen quite a bit by people claiming to be the original copyright holder, so it's not a totally unrealistic assumption to make. Another issue is that the same photo can also be seen online here under a different license well before you uploaded the file to Wikipedia, which usually means that OTRS verification is required, so that might have also been a reason why the file was tagged as a copyvio.

Anyway, if a mistake was made, it can be rectified by discussing things with RHaworth, the administrator who deleted the file, at User talk:RHaworth#File:WilliamGasarch-OfficePortrait-Sept2009.jpg. As long as you keep your comments WP:CIVIL, RHaworth will advise you on what you need to do to have the file undeleted. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:59, 13 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
