Years

edit

{{helpme}} Hello random editor. I have tried to find a place on wp to put forward an idea of mine but cant locate such a place. My idea is that someone would create a tool or a html or something that would automatically put any reference in an article to a year e.g 1567 to that years page. Most years pages are sparse even though that year might be mentioned many articles. I realise that you couldnt just send the sentence containing the year to the years page as the sentence mightnt provide enough context to make sense on the years page. But maybe we could do like we do with cat tags and have a year tag or something that would send the paragraph to the years page which would force some editing to be done on the years page but it would at least make the year pages much much better. Just a thought.I realise that the whole area of cat tags is compliacted but maybe theres something we could do.

Hi. Please take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:WhatLinksHere/1567 and http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Search&redirs=0&search=1567&fulltext=Search&ns0=1&title=Special:Search&advanced=1&fulltext=Advanced+search - perhaps those will help? If not, please place a {{helpme}} again. Thanks!   — Jeff G. ツ 15:51, 1 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Regarding categorisation of this article — please see WP:SUBCAT. When category A is a subcategory of category B, pages that belong in A shouldn't also be put in B, because this produces clutter. A simpler explanation, equally applicable, can be found in the Commons discussion of overcategorisation. ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. 2016 Cavan SHC

edit

Hi. You created the 2016 Cavan Senior Hurling Championship article in May 2017. It remained largely an empty template for some time, prompting an editor to tag it as "needing immediate attention" by someone from WikiProject Ireland. I spotted it in the "needing attention" pile recently. And have attempted to improve it. But am kinda struggling. Given the lack of available refs to support it. In particular I am struggling with the outcome of the competition. In this edit you noted that, despite losing in the final, Cootehill were awarded the title. I don't doubt that this was/is the case. And I appreciate that this was a while ago. But do you know what you based this text upon? I can find no sources which support this particular text. Which, in turn, is making me question why we have this article. IE: If nobody in the "real world" (outside Wikipedia) feels that the winner of this competition is worthy of recording, then why do we? (Wikipedia shouldn't be the only place that something "exists". Its probably the lowest bar we have for WP:GNG.) Anyway, if you have a source for that claim, that'd be great. Not least so we can remove the "needs attention" tag. Cheers. Guliolopez (talk) 10:22, 10 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

The article Warwickshire GAA has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

zero references no indication of notability

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. thanks to everybody for the feedback.
I will work on it.
In the mean time can the sections not touched upon be unblocked.
they were the campaign, ballot access, background ? Eleutherius (talk) 14:28, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Eleutherius. I'm pretty sure you can trying rewriting the content of those particular sections in your own words in your user sandbox or offline if you want. If you use your user sandbox, though, don't copy-and-paste the questionable content into it and then click "Publish changes" because that will only create another potential copyright version of a page that needs to be cleaned. If copyright violating content is found, it will be cleaned out and older revisions of the article may even need to be revision deleted. If that happens, the last thing you want to do is try to re-add it (even to another page like your user sandbox) because it just means more cleanup. If you do that too many times, an administrator might decide that stronger action is needed to stop you for continuing to do so.
In addition, to copyright related issues, content taken directly from a political candidates website (even content released under an acceptable free license) is almost always written in a style or tone than is not WP:NPOV. The candidate is, after all, trying to attract supporters and may use all kinds of WP:WTW and other stylistic techniques to make themselves more appealing; they might also be making claims about themselves or others that are more WP:OR than not. So, it would be better to look for reliable secondary sources covering the campaign, and base the article's content on that. You can MOS:QUOTE reliable sources or the candidate themselves if needed, but you will need to be careful of WP:PLAGIARISM and WP:CLOSEPARAPHRASE.
You should also understand that the Wikipedia article will still need to meet WP:N regardless so you should look for significant coverage in secondary reliable sources that clearly establishes that. You should also understand that the article is not a platform for the candidate to promote themselves, and that neither they nor their campaign have a claim of WP:OWNERSHIP over the article. In fact, anyone associated with the campaign (even a volunteer) almost certainly is going to be considered to have a WP:COI and possibly a WP:PAID connection, which means they really shouldn't directly be editing the article at all. For an example on what happens when a politician or their staff try to use Wikipedia in an inappropriate way, take a look at United States congressional staff edits to Wikipedia and Wikipedia:Congressional staffer edits. Wikipedia is in the WP:REALWORLD and an article about someone running for president is almost certainly going to end up monitored to make sure it's in compliance with relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines, in particular WP:BLP and WP:NOT. Please understand I'm not trying to imply you've already done or are going to do any anything inapproriate, but articles about political campaigns (particulary for major elections) do tend to attract lots of attention from both inside and outside of Wikipedia. They can also be targets for WP:VANDALISM and other inappropriate stuff. Furtrhermore,Wikipedia isn't really the news and isn't required to be updated to the minute. So, the best approach is to stick to WP:COPO and let the article develop naturally along those lines. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:05, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is Peter Sonski 2024 Presidential Campaign. Thank you. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 03:57, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Notifying you on behalf of Marchjuly, who had opened up the above thread but neglected to inform you. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 03:58, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
My apologies for not notifying you about this. Given that you've already moved the contents of the draft to the mainspace, there's probably no need for the draft anymore regardless of what happens with respect to the article. So, instead of just waiting for it to be deleted per WP:G13, you might want to nominate it for speedy deletion yourself per WP:G7. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:07, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

I have sent you a note about a page you started

edit

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:10, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
