Concerning the copyright of Beirut Coat of Arms

Well I don't think there's a copyright problem, it is taken from the official website of the beirut municipality, which in turn is a public sector. The coat of arms is not a private property but is in public domain, such as the flag. But I suppose adding the source of the coat of arms [the website] won't do any harm. Oh, it looks like it got deleted, which is sad, because previously the flag of beirut was deleted as well. I don't have a very strong expertise to draw them myself. But I do still believe that they are in fair use, since it's a journalistic article. I mean, if a newspaper put the image of the coat of arms taken from the municipality in an article, the municipality can't claim it removed, because it is a public property. I don't know more of the procedures in wikipedia, that is why I put my trust in you. If you need the images, I still have them, please do contact me. Ad vitam aeternam (talk) 02:42, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Top importance articles

You need to review the WikiProject's policies. From the Wikiproject Lebanon Assessment page, a "top" importance article is one for which: "A reader who is not involved in Lebanon will have high familiarity with the subject matter and should be able to relate to the topic easily."

Will a reader "not involved in Lebanon" have a high familiarity with the subject of the "National Museum of Beirut"? No. Will they have any idea what "Koullouna Lilouataan Lil Oula Lil Alam" even means? No. Hence, these are not proper top importance articles. ← George ^[talk] 09:00, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Beirut GA nomination suggestions

Greetings Elie! I'm excited to see Beirut on the GA nominations list and thought I might make some suggestions regarding it broadness. The article is missing the much needed sections of "Demographics" (especially crucial for a religiously mixed city and it should also mention gender ratios, age distribution and its population in other years from the 1400s to 2000), the "Government" (should include info on its municipal council, a list of its mayors throughout its history, maybe some laws like a Christian, Sunni or Shia must be mayor, when municipal elections are held) and finally an economy section (shopping, industry, tourism, etc.) I hope you could find sources for this information, since without these extremely important sections I don't see how the article could pass. Samir Geagea

There is another editor who is new and has created an account only to edit samir geagea's page. I am not aware of these criminal proceedings and I am pretty sure what was posted on there is propaganda against Samir Geagea. I undid his edit since it was not properly sourced. Best regards to you.

What do you need help on reverting? I didn't log in for a couple days. There is a case against Samir Geagea pending in court but I do not have much information about it. I am pretty sure that it is not credible.

Hi. Please don't add 10+ tags to an article. Tags are meant to be reminders that an article needs help. Some tags are very broad (cleanup, totally-disputed) and make it unnecessary to add more specific tags. I saw you created the AfD and were obviously annoyed by the article but doing that won't help. Thanks, i appreciate your good words. I'm not solely into Greek culture, so the Phoenicia article will definitely be on my A list of edits. That was the case with the Lebanese Independence Day article, it was made of only 3 sentences and i rapidly went through its expansion. Suggestion

I was looking at the Phoenicia article and i think that some of the info's are solely related to the Phoenician people and not to Phoenicia as a region (e.g. Ionia and Ionians). So i believe that it's better if we make a separate article called Phoenician that is dedicated for this particular people. As for Phoenicia i think that the website http://phoenicia[dot]org/ could be helpful for some references.

BTW i saw the History of Lebanon series and it also needs a lot of work from Persian to Ottoman rule and the topical series.Alain08 (talk) 18:45, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Tourism in Lebanon

Shouldn't we delete the rural tourism part in the article and replace it with let's say Lebanese nightlife? I think it's better and have more issues to talk about. Rural tourism is a very detailed part that has little info. IMHO

BTW isn't this pic better if it was posted on top of the History of Lebanon template? At least this is a Phoenician national symbol instead of putting roman columns.Alain08 (talk) 16:27, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Invention of Phoenician alphabet

While I was working on Timeline of Lebanese history, I was confused regarding the time in which the Phoenician alphabet was invented. Actually I found 3 versions to this:

1. 1500s BC — The Phoenicians develop an alphabet — see Timeline of communication technology.
2. 1000s BC — Phoenician alphabet invented.
3. In article Cadmus: "Cadmus was credited by the Hellenes with the introduction of the Phoenician alphabet, phoinikeia grammata. Herodotus who gives this account estimates that Cadmus lived sixteen hundred years before his time, or around 2000 BC."
