edit

Please do not add or change content without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. That is the reason for the edit that you asked me about. Breaking sticks (talk) 21:39, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Breaking sticks As a matter of fact, the information that I added was also in the source that was already cited on the page. That is why I added the information there and not somewhere else. So please don't remove information before you asked people why they put it there. You ruin the purpose of Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elisabethruemke (talkcontribs) 22:14, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

There are several reasons why it would not be helpful if we made it standard practice to ask the editor who made unsourced additions to articles before reverting the edits, such as the fact that it would add considerable time lags in editing, and problems that would occur in the case of seriously misleading edits, especially if the editor never came back and answered the question. Instead, we have a policy that it is the duty of the editor adding content to provide a source, and the content may be removed until that is done. You are perfectly free to suggest a change to that policy if you think it is mistaken, but it has been well-established for many years. Since you say that the statement you wrote is supported by one of the existing references in the article, you should have no difficulty in saying which reference it is.
I would be very interested to learn what you think the purpose of Wikipedia is, and how you think I have ruined it. Breaking sticks (talk) 23:05, 5 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
