NRHP infoboxes using NHL and NHLD fields
editHi. Only just now came across your note in User talk:Swampyank: "I found a way to automatically put the "nrhp_type=nhl" or "nrhp_type=nhld" fields in the infobox generator output if the property is a National Historic Landmark. There's a table in the database that indicates whether a structure is part of a National Historic Landmark survey, so I'm doing a query against that. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 19:32, 18 May 2008 (UTC)"
I had certainly noticed that your generator did start including nhl or nhld. It's been a help. Not sure if you know the NRIS field is apparently inaccurate fairly often, and/or it requires a lot of interpretation. The NHL list-tables were created from NRIS using that field, and about 5% or so are off. It misses some NHLs, particularly newer ones (data entry practices changed apparently). It includes some NRHPs that are not NHLs, often an NRHP in a NHLD or an HD that includes an NHL. The remaining ones in your database that have NHL or NHLD, but don't have an article with infobox, will largely be of these types.
Where i come across those, i have made a point to create a stub article, override the NHL or NHLD in the infobox, and mention in the article the specific NHLD or NHL that is related.
So, I wonder if your generator should be modified to not include NHL or NHLD, but rather to include a note in the text body, like where "Filler text here" appears, suggesting that the site may be an NHL or NHLD, or it may be included in an NHLD, or it may be an HD that includes an NHL.
It's not a big deal, as there are relatively few occurences remaining of all this.
Hey, just now i wonder, is there any way to cross-check the wikipedia articles vs. the NRIS-indicated NHLs or NHLDs? If you could generate a table of them all, like you did for Octagon mode houses or other special reports, I would be very happy to have that. I would go through and ensure there are articles (or appropriate redirects to articles), and to create stub articles with appropriate links for all those tricky non-NHL ones. It would be a great help.
Cheers, doncram (talk) 21:43, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry about the delayed reply -- I've been a bit busy lately. Are you looking for me to generate a table of everything in the NRIS that has the NHL or NHLD designation? I could do that fairly easily -- it's just a check of the "othdocd" table (the one that lists representation in other surveys). Since it's a list of other documentation, I can see where it isn't necessarily correct or up to date.
- I mainly put the flag into the infobox generator as an aid for creating articles, in case someone didn't notice or didn't realize that an NRHP is also an NHL. I'm a little more concerned about those cases where the infobox generator claims that something is an NHL when it really isn't, since that results in an erroneous infobox (as opposed to an incomplete infobox if NHL is missing). --Elkman (Elkspeak) 20:57, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply, and yes, exactly. I suppose the list, if in full table form, would be very large, as was the original set of tables for the NHL list-articles, when they were all in one sandbox. But I would be using it just to check the red-links, and it could be a brief table format, perhaps as little as Name and State and a blank Comment field, sorted by state and then by name, so I could match them up against the existing NHL list-tables. I could use separate lookups on any one of course. My goal would be to go through them and figure out whether a red-link should be a redirect to a slightly differently named NHL article, almost all of which have now been created. Or, if it is a red-link for an NRHP that is indicated erroneously to be an NHL or NHLD. In which case i would go ahead and create the stub, and override the NHL or NHLD indication. This is just in interest of protecting our data quality, to head off errors when others, unsuspecting, would create those articles and obtain misleading infoboxes. There is no rush on this report, i would not be able to get to this for awhile, myself. Have a nice CONference! doncram (talk) 21:22, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- i'm still interested in doing this, though. :) doncram (talk) 17:27, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- I've noticed that the NHL/NHLD designations are turned on in your NRHP infobox generator still, though i think it is turned off in the NRHP county-table-generator (which i prefer). Currently I think it would be best to turn it off in the infobox generator and/or to provide some other text note, as the information is wrong now in almost all new infoboxes created showing NHL/NHLD. Not sure how much it is happening, but it does happen some. There are articles for every NHL now, and infoboxes included in almost every one of those. So the only new infoboxes being created that show NHL are the ones for historic districts that have erroneous or misleading NRIS data. These include districts that are not NHLDs but include one, or for individual NRHPs that are within NHLD districts. Showing those as NHLD and NHL is not exactly correct. It would be more accurately helpful, i think, if you could provide a message where you have the draft text for the article, suggesting that the given site might be in a NHLD or the district might include an NHL. Not a big deal though, maybe i shouldn't even be mentioning this. Cheers, doncram (talk) 00:58, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- I was just now leaving a note on Ruhrfisch's talk page, and noticed that you'd left a note there. I wrote about the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Vernon the other day, the first time that I've ever created an NRHP article: would you be willing to check it, and to add to the infobox if there's something that can easily be added? Pennsylvania NHL date vs accessdate
editHi Elkman, I am checking all of the Pennsylvania NHLs as part of the drive to fix them all up by the 4th of July (hopefully I will get my part done). I did not realize that the date parameter was (semi)automatically generated. Mostly I have been adding NHL dates to infoboxes and in some cases adding the nrhp infobox from scratch. The date parameter was bugging me - at first I thought it was the date the property was listed on the NRHP, but I soon realized that was incorrect. Then I decided it was the date accessed. I also (being fairly anal) decided to go back and "fix" this on all of the NHLs I had already checked. Mostly I was trying for consistency - it seems to me if it is a searchable database, accessdate makes more sense than date, but I can see the logic behind date too. If everyone else hase done date I can go back and undo my changes. Just let me know, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:27, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- The more I think about it, I think date usually refers to date of publication or known update, and accessdate is for when the ref was checked online. I have used both when appropriate on other refs. I did not know about the generator for infoboxes - mostly I just paste the NHL added line and update the parameters from the NPS NHL website. I have made three or four infoboxes from scratch (usually to replace a different non-NrHP box). Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:49, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Georgia NRHP
editI've discovered that the NRHP generator produces default maps for the State of Georgia with a map of the nation of Georgia. The default field is "Georgia", but it needs to be "USA Georgia" for the correct map to appear. It's easy to fix by hand, but I assume it's an easy tweak to the database. I noticed you written on his talkpage about his attacks towards Bedford on Bedford's userpage. You may wish to see this archived AN discussion where this was discussed. I'm pretty sure Began's a sock of Pope Benjamin Lister (talk · contribs). Thoughts? D.M.N. (talk) 15:14, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I've seen that sort of pattern used against Bedford (talk · contribs) before. I couldn't remember the name of the sockmaster, though, and I didn't know right away if Began aged 13 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) was actually the same master. 13 is now blocked indefinitely. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 15:28, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Minnesota Nord book
editHi, i noticed you added the Nord book into the NRHP infobox generator for MN sites. I just added that to the Minnesota section under Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places#State specific resources.
Interesting use of the generator to suggest using that as a reference. It's a 2003 book, though, so cannot cover all NRHPs in the state, and it shouldn't be included as a reference if it is not directly consulted. I wonder if the presentation in the generator should be amended from:
Article filler text goes here. Book by Nord: <ref name="nord">{{cite book|title=The National Register of Historic Places in Minnesota|last=Nord|first=Mary Ann|publisher=[[Minnesota Historical Society]]|date=2003|isbn=0-87351-448-3}}</ref>
to something like
Article filler text goes here. You may wish to consult and reference this Mary Ann Nord's 2003 book: <ref name="nord">{{cite book|title=The National Register of Historic Places in Minnesota|last=Nord|first=Mary Ann|publisher=[[Minnesota Historical Society]]|date=2003|isbn=0-87351-448-3}}</ref>
There are other state-specific resources that might similarly be suggested, such as the detailed pages available from the South Carolina Department of Archives and History. Perhaps something like:
Article filler text goes here. Please consider searching the [http://www.nationalregister.sc.gov/ South Carolina Department of Archives and History NRHP index] to add a reference or external link to the its NRHP listing for this site.
would be helpful? There are great resources available for several states. doncram (talk) 17:27, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Friendly note about your message to Kmweber
editHi Elkman,
I stumbled across your comment to Kurt re his constant use of the term "Arbitrary Committee". For what it's worth, I urge you not to block him for using that term, and at least consider removing the threat to do so. Such a block would cause a lot more disruption than his use of the term ever will. The AC is full of grown ups, they can handle a little meaningless criticism, and blocking someone for, essentially, disrespecting authority is possibly going to put you in a hole yourself. --barneca (talk) 22:28, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
- OK, I removed the threat to block him. Feel free to block me if I screwed up -- because I screwed up. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 22:38, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
- In fact, just because I screwed up, I probably deserve the block anyway. Goodness knows I screw up a lot of things on Wikipedia -- and in real life. And let's be honest: Anything I've "achieved" here on Wikipedia doesn't mean jack. The only thing that matters here on Wikipedia is when people screw up. My "contributions" to this place don't mean a damn thing.
- Also, ask the Eden Prairie, Minnesota Police Department about whether my actions on May 28 in the parking lot of Southwest Station are a screwup. Here's a hint: If I'm backing up and I run into someone, that isn't just a mistake -- it's a deeply-rooted character flaw and a crime. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 22:41, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
- Aw, c'mon Elk, it was just a friendly comment. We don't block people for making mistakes they retract. If your self-block makes you feel better, I guess I won't revert it without your OK, but it would make me feel good to lift your block. Will you allow me to do that, just to make myself feel better? --barneca (talk) 22:48, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Better than list
editActually, I did compile a list of users I am better than, and its not due to DYKs, but due to their actions. I did not deserved to have my adminship stolen from me like a thief in a night would. Two females with their own prejudices kept complaining and complaining, making snide remarks, and I got screwed by it. The sad thing is, had I not awaken at a bad time, none of this would have happened, and I would have been fortunate not to make the acquaintance of User:Sarah and User:Seraphim Whipp, two individuals that should have had their adminship taken away before mine was. I stand by my actions on binging back the hook, accepted by DYK participants, only to be censored by two individuals ignorant and intolerant of divergent viewpoints.--Bedford Pray 06:57, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
- Where am I located on that list? How poorly do I rank among Wikipedia users and admins at this point? (Here's a hint: I only have about 10 or 15 DYK contributions.) --Elkman (Elkspeak) 07:10, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

The mercy dolls (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs) was moved to The Mercy Dolls (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs) on May 5 to capitalize the band name as a proper name. On June 7, another editor submitted Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Mercy Dolls saying that the band wasn't notable. The deletion debate ran for a while without consensus, until it was closed on June 25. At that point, The Mercy Dolls (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs) was deleted, but someone forgot to delete the old redirect of The mercy dolls (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs). Someone else noticed that it was a redirect to a nonexistent article, so I deleted the leftover redirect. If you are thinking about recreating the article, the consensus of the deletion discussion was that it wasn't notable for Wikipedia. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 03:57, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
The band is a notable Brisbane band, like many of the other notable Brisbane bands with Wikipedia pages. Their film clip one a nationally acclaimed award (Atom Awards), and were also runner-up in another national film clip away (sunscreen music video awards). They've played nationally and well known around Brisbane. Quite a bit of work went into the page, and I'm annoyed to find that its been deleted. Eactlly discussing "something else"
editre: AN/I Typically, the kind of discussion hosted at xFD is a discussion about whether to delete, keep, merge, or do 'something else

You mentioned WP:VPT; did you also raise the issue on Template talk:Reflist? That would be a good place to do it. Also, if editing Wikipedia is causing stress, and you'd rather be out boating on a nice afternoon, then log off and head for the dock. There is no deadline here at Wikipedia, and you might find the boat ride relaxing. You might come back more refreshed. editYou denied a speedy tagged by 75.47.194.101 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log). Could you please look at the user's other recent contributions? I think that they may all be vandalism, but I'm not sure. --Eastmain (talk) 03:14, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- I was wondering about that as well. The IP has been posting legitimate block notices (as far as I can tell) for accounts that have actually been blocked and/or proven as sockpuppets. I don't know why an IP would be doing this, though. I'm not as suspicious of vandalism at this point, but the {{db-g6}} tagging has me a bit confused. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 03:20, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Kingman Research
editHowdy--
Thanks for the information. I went out and looked at it. I just started and pretty much a hands on type of guy and willing to learn. My research is small at this time. I just started few months ago, I am creating a guided walking tour of Historic Downtown Kingman. I also have created a small newspaper with this information in it. One of the things I will be doing is passing the newspaper to the owners of the properties for their information on the houses and buildings. Thanks and if you see something I need to know, let me know. Thanks, RobChilcoatr (talk) 00:20, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protect
editCan you pretty please semi-protect Tim Pawlenty for 48 hours from new/anon users. :D .:davumaya:. 20:48, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- I'm watching it, although I'm sort of divided between that and trying to recover my Linux box, which crashed in flames this morning. I see that there's a lot of speculation out there, and this article from Reuters says that Tim Pawlenty just canceled a bunch of his appointments for tomorrow. Some anon added that to Tim Pawlenty (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views). I'm a little hesitant to semiprotect it right now unless there's a lot of clear, obvious vandalism or misinformation. The best thing for us to do right now is to just keep our eyes on the article and make sure the speculation here doesn't exceed the speculation of the news media, who are panting, frothing, and foaming at the mouth anyway. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 22:58, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

NRHP infobox generator: thanks, and questions
editThanks for posting about the generator being down, and now for bringing the NRHP infobox generator back on line! I would be lost without it and the related disambiguation page generator, and county-table-list-generator, which i use constantly.
I see also that you changed it per recent decree on not linking dates, which is nice.
In the infobox generator, I am noticing something minor, don't know if it is a change or not: it would help if there were a space after the URL and before the next field, the title field, in the nris reference. Otherwise the lines break awkwardly when editting, though there is no difference in reader view.
| refnum=97001457 <ref name="nris">{{cite web|url=http://www.nr.nps.gov/|title=National Register Information System|date=2008-04-15|work=National Register of Historic Places|publisher=National Park Service}}</ref>
Also, I notice one weirdness in the disambiguation page generator, when i try "St. Mark's Church". It generates an error, "Invalid query: select city, statecd from propmain, countyd where propmain.refnum = countyd.refnum and resname like 'St. Mark's Church' and certcd = 'LI' order by resname, statecd, city; You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 's Church' and certcd = 'LI' order by resname, statecd, city' at line 1".
Overall I can't overstate how grateful i am you are providing the support that you do. Thanks, cheers, doncram (talk) 00:42, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- overall, i agree wholeheartedly with doncram's praise for the generators. which is why it pains me to ask about something, i've started re-table-izing the Whatcom County, Washington list in my sandbox, and can't figure out why the photo section is showing up so wide. Can you take a look at it? cheers, Murderbike (talk) 14:39, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- Never mind, I found the silly mistake that was all mine. Murderbike (talk) 15:00, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- And i find that searching on "St. Mark\'s Church" works. It could be helpful if the generator page suggested inserting the "\" into the search string, but my problem is solved. doncram (talk) 18:21, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Part 2
editI just generated the San Juan County, Washington list, and it stuck a (now demolished) site from Tacoma (Pierce County) in to the list. I couldn't decide if I should leave this note here or the NRIS issues page though, sorry if I should've put it over there. Murderbike (talk) 00:10, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
- PS, I just noticed that it also left out the Richardson General Store and Warehouse, which didn't pop up in the infobox generator by name, but did by ID#. Again, don't know if this is a NRIS problem or not. cheers, Murderbike (talk) 00:13, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
- And further investigation shows that RGS&W burned. So was presumably delisted, but still showing in the infobox generator, but not the list generator. Murderbike (talk) 00:30, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
- Richardson General Store and Warehouse was removed from the National Register, presumably because it burned. It's still listed in the National Register database, but with a status of "RN", meaning it was removed. The list generator checks to make sure that the certification status is "LI", meaning that it's listed, but the infobox generator doesn't do that check. It should check the listing status and probably put out some sort of warning, I guess. As far as the other, now-demolished site is concerned, it's possible that the National Register database doesn't have it marked as delisted yet. I encountered that situation last summer when I went searching for Bridge L-3040, which was one of the oldest stone arch highway bridges in Minnesota. I couldn't find it -- all I saw was a nice shiny new bridge in its place. It turned out that the county had to remove the old bridge and build a new one because local farmers were driving bigger and bigger trucks over it. Apparently, the NPS didn't find out about its removal until a few months later. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 01:58, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

part 3
editHi, I just generated Adams County, Pennsylvania table now in List of RHPs in PA, and find sort of an issue with date display and/or how i am to understand the dates when editing.
The table has dates using dts using DD/MM/YYYY entry order, like, for February 2, 1980:
- Error in Template:Date table sorting: days must be an integer between 1 and 31
which displays oddly (for me at least) as "February 1980, 22"
I think that would be better entered with dts using YYYY/MM/DD order as:
- February 22, 1980
which displays better as "February 22, 1980" for me.
Besides the display problem (perhaps unique for me given whatever are my wikipedia user-specific date display options), I think the DD/MM/YYYY order facilitates later mistakes, because when I go to manually add a new row with 8/15/2008 date, I accidentally entered it in MM/DD/YYYY order:
- Error in Template:Date table sorting: months must be an integer between 1 and 12
which was in fact the wrong date.
If all the other dates present were given in YYYY/MM/DD order there is no ambiguity for me in how to enter a new date, and i would enter it correctly:
- August 15, 2008
So, for both reasons, I wonder if you would care to change the table generator date display to use "dts|link=off|YYYY|MM|DD" format for dates? Thanks for considering! doncram (talk) 10:38, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- I've fixed the problem. Here's what happened: I noticed that someone updated a county listing to delink dates (per the new Manual of Style recommendation on dates), and they changed the {{dts2}} template to {{dts}}. So, I did the same, but I didn't realize that {{dts}} changed the year and day parameters around. It should work now, so you won't get dates like "February 1980". --Elkman (Elkspeak) 15:02, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks! doncram (talk) 16:39, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

editI agree that at Wiki 'we' don't have to chronicle every internet meme. But 'we' do. From the mundane to the obscure, you can find and learn about any internet meme that you are likely to find spoofed, referenced, or inferred anywhere else on the internet. So why the personal (used in the same sense as 'we'; I'm not referring to personal as you) animosity against having this page?

Coney Island Cyclone
editHi! Hesitate to question since you're an NRHP/NHL expert and I love your infobox too=l but re this edit, are you sure? I've found a couple of sources that seem to agree with it being a National Historic Landmark including its own site, this book and at least one news article. Just curious where you got your info. Thanks! TravellingCari 02:44, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- I checked with the National Historic Landmarks Program, both from the query page and from the full list of NHLs in New York. Neither of those sources list it as being a National Historic Landmark. The National Register database says that it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 25, 1991, but nothing in there says it's a National Historic Landmark either. And, actually, the coaster's own site at [6] is inconsistent. The sixth paragraph claims it's an NHL, but the fact sheet says at the bottom that it's (only) listed on the National Register. So, it looks like the sources are inconsistent, but looking at the National Park Service list, I'd say the Coney Island folks got "National Register" and "National Historic Landmark" confused. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 04:47, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- By the way, I know at least one other place that got it wrong. Central Presbyterian Church (St. Paul, Minnesota) has a plaque on the front of the building saying, "Central Presbyterian Church has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark by the United States Department of Interior Heritage Preservation Service." I was surprised to see that on the plaque, so I checked, and sure enough, that isn't actually a National Historic Landmark. I guess they should have double-checked before ordering a fancy bronze plaque. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 04:53, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- Gotcha, thanks for the clarification. Knew there had to be some reason. I think Coney Island got it wrong on the plaque as well, need to check my photos. Not to mention recent media talking about "astroland is gone but the cyclone is OK" -- seems like there's some lazy media fact non-checking going on, which doesn't surprise me. I don't get it....
editWhat do you do? Are you paid by wikipedia? Are you freelance? My post was listed as "vandalism", but I still don't get it. I thought that wikipedia was about freedom of speech, my page said nothing bad or even "PG" rated. What gives you a license to take it apon yourself and become a self appointed wiki-detective. Last time I checked, people don't use proper footnotes and don't cite things correctly anyways including YOU. LEAVE ME ALONE!!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.158.157.228 (talk) 13:56, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not paid by anyone for the articles I create or edit here.
- You didn't even tell me what article you're complaining about that I deleted. If you're complaining about R.C. and the Monkey-Junks (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), the page you created had no value as an encyclopedia entry. Wikipedia isn't a graffiti wall -- it's an encyclopedia. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedia is an encyclopedia for some details on that.) If you're complaining about some other page that I deleted as vandalism, well, the same probably applies.
- I'm not a wiki-detective. I check over Special:Newpages regularly and delete pages that match Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion. There are a lot of pages like that out there because people think that Wikipedia is a billboard for advertising, a MySpace page, a graffiti wall, or just any sort of site that they can edit.
- You're one of the few people complaining about my footnotes and citations. Considering that I've worked on three Featured Articles and that I'm working on a Featured List, I think I know how footnotes and citations work around here.
- I just got out of the hospital after an overnight stay and I really don't need to read complaints like yours. I have far more important issues to deal with than someone who's complaining about their article being deleted. If you still need to complain, go to Wikipedia:Deletion review. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 17:26, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Yolo County NRHP list
editHi Elkman ... I see you made some edits to the Yolo County NRHP list I just created. I was about to delete the I Street Bridge and the Tower Bridge listings because they come up in a search of the NRIS database at the NPS website as in Sacramento County, not Yolo. I know that they come up as in both counties in your county table generator. I've come across this situation fairly often as I've worked on county tables and have been torn about how to handle it. There was some discussion of a similar issue at WT:NRHP a few weeks back. It appears that these bridges span the Sacramento River (I think) which forms the boundary between Sacramento and Yolo Counties. So I guess they really are in both counties. Do you think we should include them in both county lists?
By the way, sorry to read in an earlier post that you had an overnight stay in the hospital recently. I hope everything's okay. --Sanfranman59 (talk) 03:48, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- I can think of a few NRHP bridges in Minnesota that span county lines. Anoka-Champlin Mississippi River Bridge is listed in both Anoka and Hennepin County, and Intercity Bridge is listed in both Hennepin and Ramsey County in Minnesota. Mendota Bridge is listed in both Hennepin and Dakota County. There are a few bridges that span state lines, too. Stillwater Bridge connects Minnesota to Wisconsin, as does Soo Line High Bridge. All of those examples are listed in both counties and/or states, as appropriate. So, I'd suggest keeping those listings in both counties as well.
- As far as being in the hospital goes, I was there overnight Monday because I was there for an angiogram and angioplasty. My right coronary artery was 99% blocked, which is pretty scary. They put in two stents, one for that artery and another for the circumflex branch of left coronary artery. The only symptom I had was shortness of breath while exercising, but apparently I had enough cholesterol stuck in there to cut off a lot of circulation. I'm feeling better now. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 04:12, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- Pretty serious stuff there. Good move getting to the hospital. Glad to hear you're feeling better. Do take care of yourself. --Sanfranman59 (talk) 05:34, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Awesome additions! Thanks! BTW, how'd you find the article so quickly after I created the stub? —EncMstr (talk) 16:01, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- I was checking out Special:Newpages. I saw that you were creating some articles about Oregon state parks, and I figured that Wolf Creek Inn was on the National Register of Historic Places. Sure enough, it was, and it had an interesting story behind it, so I did a little expansion. Some of the other Oregon state parks might be on the National Register as well, depending on whether they're historic sites, or whether they were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps or Works Progress Administration. Usually, I'm looking at Special:Newpages for articles that qualify for speedy deletion, such as articles that kids write about their friends or enemies, or companies that use Wikipedia for advertising, so it's a relief to find good articles there. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 16:12, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Who Has generator code note
editYikes about angioplasty, etc! I do hope you get better!
So this seems not so important...
I've just started a list-article List of courthouse buildings in the U.S., in part to shed light on how many occurences there are of more than one courthouse in the same county being NRHP-listed. I don't know if this really wants to become a proper list or not; perhaps it should be in wikiproject or userspace. But for now i am interested because this would relate to revisiting the naming convention of just (State) after county courthouse names, when needed for disambiguation, while (City, State) seems to be the naming convention for all other NRHPs needing location clarification for disambiguation. I'm not quite ready to open a general discussion about revisiting that, although i just chatted at User talk:Nyttend about the possibility.
Anyhow, i start the list-article and add a table using your Who Has generator, with "Output in Wiki markup" checked yes. This works great, generating the main table that I pasted into the article, then I edited the table to make sortable. Sorting it by state, this works well. However, the one thing a bit odd is, the table generator has wikilinked each of the NRHP refnums, rather than wikilinking the names of the courthouses. It would be nicer if the courthouse names were wikilinked, as that would then link to a bunch of wikipedia articles that have been created. Something for you to consider if/when you update the Who Has generator code.

- I've fixed the bug where the reference number is being wikilinked. As far as a full list of courthouses is concerned, querying for just "Courthouse" misses occasions where they're named "Court House" or "Court Building" or something like that. I did a search by function code = '04J', which is specifically for courthouses, but that turns up several federal buildings, city halls, and some post offices. (Also, "Minneapolis City Hall-Hennepin County Courthose" (sic) was misspelled.) I'm doing some experimenting to see if I can come up with some queries that will return all the ambiguous names of all courthouses. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 03:44, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- OK, here's something that might answer your questions about multiple, ambiguous courthouses. Go to this link and choose "Ambiguous courthouses" from the menu (it's the bottom item because I just added it). This will pick out all entries in the NRIS that have a function of "courthouse" and are listed more than once. U.S. Post Office and Courthouse has 19 ambiguous entries, while among named counties, Washington County Courthouse leads the list at 15. Let me know if this helps you out. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 03:57, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. I won't be able to address this for a while though. doncram (talk) 15:51, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Baltimore (Independent City) table question
editHi, to respond to, and try to stay a little ahead of a new Maryland wikipedia editor, I would like to set up table for Baltimore, Maryland, at National Register of Historic Places listings in Baltimore (Independent City). It's an independent city, and its listings are not included in Baltimore County, Maryland, which surrounds the city but does not include it. I can get the county table, and i tried a bunch of variations, but can't figure out phrase would work to get a table for the city out of your table generator...could you help, please? Perhaps just putting the table directly into the Temp page linked from there would be most helpful. I'm trying to fix up this situation a bit, but am soon going to be out of doing wikipedia much at all, for a month or so. The same issue might come up for the numerous independent cities in Virginia, by the way. Thanks! doncram (talk) 15:51, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, boy, this is going to be fun. Here's the deal: Baltimore County shows up in the NRIS database twice. Baltimore County, Maryland is a real county, while Baltimore, Maryland is an independent city (and is listed as a county in the NRIS database as well). My county list generator first looks up the county ID, and then it gets everything listed in that county. It appears that it's getting Baltimore County (i.e. the one that includes Towson, Maryland and so on), but not getting Baltimore (Independent City).
- Fortunately, there's a flag on the county record saying whether it's a regular county, an independent city, or something else. I might end up putting a separate checkbox on the county list generator to get around the independent city thing. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 16:15, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

edit...for watching out for me. Liebman pops up here 2 or 3 times a week. My guess is that he doesn't even bother to check back later to see if his latest sock has been put on ice. But blocking them at least makes him do a little extra work creating a new one. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 21:12, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- You had also asked me about adminship. I find that I've become more interested in the "nuts and bolts" of wikipedia over time, but I'm not so sure about taking it up full time, as it seems a lot of work. I've been doing what you might call "admin-like" stuff more and more, at the expense of article stuff. I hope to do more article stuff in the colder months. Oh, and there's the blocks I got for being contentious. That could be tough to explain. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 02:31, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
