Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Hi Jamie, I read your suggested guide to inserting external links. I was trying to add additional information to this Wiki article, and was citing the source of that content to an article within a publication. Is there a better way to do this? Elukenich (talk) 18:12, 26 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes. Don't spam links to a site you are affiliated with. See WP:COI and WP:SPA. OhNoitsJamie Talk 22:23, 26 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

This is your last warning. The next time you insert a spam link, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:53, 3 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked from editing Wikipedia for continuing to add spam links. If you wish to make useful contributions, you may place {{unblock}} on your user talk page to have the block reviewed. Persistent spammers will have their websites blacklisted from Wikipedia.

Request reason:

I am an editor who works for a practice management journal for private practice physicians. We write often about healthcare reform, HIPAA, EHRs, meaningful use and the like. I was trying to add to the information presented on Wikipedia, especially for meaningful use which has minimal discussion. These are complex topics and the public needs good information. I was not trying to be promotional. I've reviewed the Wiki guidelines and will be extra careful not to provide external links unless that add value to the content on Wiki.

Decline reason:

I'm afraid there's another problem. Not only were you linking one particular site, you were copying text from it, either verbatim or with minimal alteration. The text from the site is copyright and cannot be imported into Wikipedia unless the owner of the copyright grants a licence to use it under Creative Commons. Please see WP:COPYVIO. The information might be of value, but on the one hand restricting yourself to one site to link looks like spamming (and at the least conflict of interest WP:COI, on the other hand we could not accept copyright text, so it would have had to go anyway. Could you tell us what sorts of edit you would be making if you were unblocked and couldn't add these links? (BTW I've removed the request above this one that didn't have a reason.) If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Comment You were warned to stop spamming, and you ignored the warnings and continued to spam. If you attempt to do the same thing with a different account, your site will be blacklisted. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:46, 6 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

I did not see your warning until I stopped working. Elukenich (talk)ELukenich

You didn't get a yellow banner at the top of each page you were editing - the dreaded 'you have a message' banner? Peridon (talk) 16:32, 6 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

I must admit I am a bit of a novice at this. When I did see the message banner, I was finished with my work. Elukenich (talk)ELukenich

You also must admit that you responded to the first warning, but continued to spam after that and were warned again. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:09, 6 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I am an editor at Physicians Practice, a practice management journal for physicians. I am interested in developing information for physicians on key business topics such as health reform initiatives, technology advances, and other matters that pertain to running a medical practice. I reference articles from Physicians Practice because I am very familiar with their content. I apologize if my paraphrasing was not unique enough from our articles; I can certainly correct that problem. I believe Physicians Practice has helpful content on these topics, but I can always reference other sites such as the ONC for health IT and Medicare, if you feel that would remediate any conflict of interest. I would like to continue to contribute to Wikipedia; I find it immensely helpful in my own work and private interests. Elukenich (talk) 20:17, 21 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Wikipedia is not an How To Guide for any specific industry, and the types of edits you're suggesting violate that. This is not optional. You MAY NOT refer to your own website, and indeed most websites do not meet our reliable sourcing. If you have used Wikipedia in the past, then you should understand how an encyclopedia works, as opposed to a how-to site (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 22:01, 21 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
