General Comments

This is intended to be both a structural and content revision of this article. I did not change the basic formatting and stylistic choices of the article, but some of the organization is slightly different. Each character entry has been rewritten around a basic principle of first presenting the most important details, then a description (physical, emotional, etc.), then a history (with important character details mixed in), then any addenda. I feel this organization is the most coherent and logical. Some information which was repeated in different character entries has been consolidated into the entry for the most appropriate character. ~~ Elunah であります (Chat) 21:43, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

I'm wondering if the lead needs to be expanded. I was looking at articles like ((Haruhi)) and Characters of Final Fantasy VIII, and they seem to have a lot more in their leads. ~~ Elunah であります (Chat) 06:35, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Revision list

• Solty (large rewrite)

• "Genuine Resemble" --> "Genuine", since Yuto explains in the prologue of episode 5 that Solty belongs to the "Genuine" category, which is separate from both "Resembles" and "Naturals". (See citations)
• Physical description expanded from just "green hair and green eyes". I'm not sure if the bit about her ears indicating her mood should be included, since this might be construed as original research/interpretations.

• Added detailed description of the ears, which are a defining characteristic.

• Emotional/personality description changed. I'm unsure what "takes every opportunity that presents itself" means, but it seemed a little awkward and so I left it out.
• Abilities placed into their own paragraph and expanded. Need to find episode numbers and citations.
• History changed. It seems like much of the latter part of Solty's history belongs in the plot section of the article set.
• Citations and missing episode numbers added in. All episode numbers formatted in lowercase and with spelled-out numbers. Episode title at the end of citations changed to also be italicized.

• (10:50): Rose explains the state of unregistered citizens in the underground.

• (10:00): Ashley asks a technician about brainwashing Rose.
• (16:20): Joseph explains nanomachines, PROCEEDs, Aurora Shell, and the immigration to the planet. Includes all the Proceeds, including Rose.
• (18:58): Ashley talks about Overclock (Integra's ability).

• Episode 21

• (4:30): Joseph talks more about immigration while they're underground.
• (7:20): Larry talks about unregistered residents, and explains their mission of helping them.
• (10:00): Explanation about Eunomia, the history of the RUC, the reason for the registration system, the link between Resembles and Eunomia, Ashley's real nature, Joseph's real nature,
• (15:40): Accela talks about the program that she and Rose were involved in.

• Episode 23

• (4:10): Ashley talks about the history of the colonization, how he was the first Resemble, how Blast Fall occurred,
• (16:00): Solty conveys Illumina's message to Ashley.

• Episode 24

• (1:00): Solty's true identity is revealed, along with Eirene's plans.
• (13:15): Solty goes into space. She explains the original reason she was sent down, the fact that Eirene has gone mad, the true cause of Blast Fall, Eirene's plans and views about humanity, etc.
• (18:00): Mii and Votre are jogging in the park. Rose and Roy are sitting on a bench listening to a radio. The scene describes the progress 5 years later--the dissembling of the RUC power structure, the election of Rose as a councilwoman, her change of name back to Rita, and the dissembling of the resident registration system, Kasha's job as Rose's assistant, etc.

Linking to characters

Since the article is so long and doesn't have headers for each character, I've been thinking it would be nice to be able to link directly to a character as if that character had a header. I just came up with a way that uses <span> tags. It works like so:

That is brilliant! I'd been wondering if there were a way to do that. I think it's a great idea, and we should definitely implement it fully. I was wondering, though, if it would be better to give at least the main characters their own true second-level headings. Random Questions

There are a few uncertainties I have about character information that I'd like to bounce off you. One, is Solty able to heal people? Near the end of ep 6, here seems to be an implication that she can, when she's crying over the body of Vincent Greco. Two, do you know the proper style for citing lines from a show? I've just been following the FFVIII page's style, but I'm not sure if it's correct, and I'm not sure what to do about stage directions (like in the citation for Solty's ears). Third, should PROCEED be all-caps? This might be a question for the main article, but the subs seem to have it as "Proceed". Along the same lines, I've been changing "R.U.C" to "R.U.C." as per normal English conventions, but after watching bits of the show again, I'm wondering which is best. Various images in the show use "R.U.C", so I'm torn as to whether we should be strict in adhering to the abbreviation, or if it should be changed to be more standard. After all, there are a lot of other "Engrish" mistakes in the series. For instance, my favorite is one in the OVA where a hot dog stand says "HOT DONG" on it. ~~ Elunah であります (Chat) 19:57, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Hot dong - lol. Ok, 1) well, it's been forever since I've watched that episode, so I don't remember for certain. But I feel like I remember the show implying she could heal. 2) Check out {{cite episode}}. Here's an example from List of Blood+ episodes made by an editor I respect <ref name="Ep22">{{cite episode |title=The Zoo |episodelink=List of Blood+ episodes |series=Blood+ |serieslink=Blood+ |season=2 |number=22 }}</ref>. Most of the time you don't need a quote from the episode - we just say where to look, the reader is expected to watch the show on his own if he doesn't believe us. Also, the VG group tends to cite things a little different from the Anime group. I suggest you look at some examples of character lists of other anime series to get a better idea of how they are usually cited. 3) I checked out MOS:CAPS but it didn't help much. I would say "Proceed" is much easier to read so that would probably be better. It's not an acronym right? English words are often written in all caps in Japanese because... well, just because. On Wikipedia, we usually don't don't write such words in all caps. 3.5) If it's offically "R.U.C" then we should probably go with that, though normally I would prefer "R.U.C." --Eruhildo (talk) 02:59, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

I'll definitely stat using the cite episode template. I definitely can understand what you mean about the VG and anime groups having different conventions. I only use the FF8 character page because it's the closest thing I've found to a featured page for an anime. I mean, a Start- or B-rated character page can have exemplary citations, but it seems like the only way to guarantee a good example of citation is to find an article that's rated well all-around. I've looked at other anime pages--Haruhi, Eva, FMA, to name a few--and there doesn't seem to be any consistency in the citations (or the format, for that matter). That led me to two reasons for taking on a slightly more aggressive citation style--it might end up working well, such that it could be a model for the future, and in case it's superfluous, it's easy to scale back. I feel like you're right, though--it's hard to get to a certain cutscene in a game, but it'd be cake in an anime. I think I'll start making the citations less verbose, but I'll keep the current ones in case. ~~ Elunah であります (Chat) 03:58, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

I found some better examples of refs that I think would make good models in the list of FA articles in the Anime project. Check out Serial Experiments Lain, Madlax, List of Madlax characters, and Excel Saga. Those all look pretty good to me. --Eruhildo (talk) 21:54, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Ah, sweet articles, thanks for pointing them out! I think I found the citation style we should use. It's from Characters of Carnivàle, and it involves grouping quotations under {{cite episode}} templates.
