Most projects are happy for you to sign up straight away and begin working - be bold is the guideline on Wikipedia. Most projects will have instructions on the project page for how to sign up and what tasks you could get involved with. However, they might prefer you to discuss any changes you want to make, which can be done on the associated talk page. If you need some one-to-one advice getting started, you might like to see if anyone at the adoption centre is involved in the projects you would like to work on.

Your recent edits

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. Help with personal attacks

Firstly, I would like to reassure you that the IP user in question is clearly in the wrong, as a number of Wikipedia policies demonstrate: no personal attacks, civility, Wikiquette, {[WP:AGF|assume good faith]], even the fourth pillar. No-one should ever make an unfounded accusation of this manner against you, and if the user in question really believed you were a sockpuppet they should have begun a normal investigation and given you a chance to defend yourself, rather than throwing accusations at you on a talk page. However, it is still best to assume the assumption of good faith, and treat the user as civilly as possible, to avoid attacking them in return. I know from experience that attacks are very hurtful, but there is some good advice on how to deal with them at Responding to personal attacks. The advice here does recommend not responding at the article in question, but at the user's talk page, and it does suggest it might be better not to respond at all. Your response was a little confrontational, but that is understandable and the only trouble it might cause is encouraging further attacks. If this happens, I would suggest you follow the advice at WP:CALM, and try not to respond agressively. Unfortunately, all editors run into attacks like this from time to time, and they are never enjoyable. When you have been editing for longer, accusations of sockpuppetry are less likely, but there are still some users who will find something to get at you about. I hope that this does not put you off editing entirely, as these attacks are generally rare - although the more lively debate, the more likely they become. Nevertheless, I urge you not to change your editing habits over this, but rather to do your best to continue as normal and contribute as best you can. Also, do not feel sorry for pestering me - this is precisely the kind of tricky situation which confuses even fairly experienced users, and helping out with problems is one of the things I enjoy most about Wikipedia. London Wikimedia Fundraiser

Good evening! This is a friendly message from Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry, inviting you to the London Wikimedia Fundraising party on 19th December 2010, in approximately one week. This party is being held at an artistic London venue with room for approximately 300 people, and is being funded by Ed Saperia, a non-Wikipedian who has a reputation for holding exclusive events all over London. This year, he wants to help Wikipedia, and is subsidising a charity event for us. We're keen to get as many Wikimedians coming as possible, and we already have approximately 200 guests, including members of the press, and some mystery guests! New Wales Coast Path WikiProject

As a member of WikiProject Wales, WikiProject Cardiff or an user who has contributed to Welsh articles we invite you to contribute to a new project, Living Paths!: articles, images, translations... Lonely Planet rated the coast of Wales "the best region on Earth" in 2012, yet there is a very low number of articles on the history and culture of places along the Coastal Path. This promises to be an exciting project as it gathers momentum with many Users joining in across the world.

Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge

Hi, at Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge we're striving to bring about 10,000 article improvements and creations for the UK and Ireland and inspire others to create more content. In order to achieve this we need diversity of content, in all parts of the UK and Ireland on all topics. Eventually a regional contest will be held for all parts of the British Isles, like they were for Wales and the Wedt Country. We currently have just over 1900 articles and need contributors! Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. WikiProject Women in Red/The World Contest

Hi. This month The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There is over £3000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. Wikimedia UK is putting up £250 specifically for editors who produce the most quality new women bios for British women, with special consideration given to missing notable biographies from the Oxford Dictionary of Biography and Welsh Dictionary of Biography. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate independently this is also fine, but please add any articles created to the bottom of the main contest page even if not competing.
