edit

Hello, Emackinnon, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} and your question on your user talk page, and someone will show up shortly to answer. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

We hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on talk and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! --Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 18:16, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • No problem. With most users, just reply to them by adding a comment to their own talk page, like you did. That way, others will get a "new message" alert. There are a few users out there who want to keep conversations in one place and will have a note on their talk page saying to reply on your own talk page. The one mistake that you made was putting your message at the top of the page rather than the bottom. On talk pages there is a useful tab with a + symbol beside the "edit this page" tab. It will create a new subsection for you at the bottom of the talk page to keep everything nice and organized. --Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 17:13, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Blanking page

edit

Hello, please do not blank your talk page without a reason. Removing some comments relating to things like IFD and stuff are fine. If you can settle the copyright problem of that image, then it is ok. However, if you can't, then just let it be deleted. Read WP:FU, WP:C for more information on image copyrights. If you don't wish to bother about it, it's fine. Terence Ong 恭喜发财 12:26, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

You are welcome. :) Terence Ong 恭喜发财 12:36, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
The copyright issue will work itself out. As such I have removed the info on copyright images after reading the pages you linked to. Thanks for your help Terence. Emackinnon 21:23, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: (numbers)

edit

I don't see any bracketed numbers in edit histories, so I'll assume that you mean the red and green numbers on the watchlist and recent changes. They show how many characters were added or taken out in the last edit so you can tell how big the last change was without looking at the page itself. --Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 14:52, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

These are the numbers that I was referring to. I figured that this is what the numbers represented but I wasn't certain. Thanks. Emackinnon 21:23, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Then learn the rules

edit

It has nothing to do with harrasement, but has everything to do with following the rules. As a result of your blatent disregard for the said rules I have reported you to the Administrators of Wikipedia. In the short time you have been here you have added spam, committed a personal attacks, altered someone's user page, and blanked your talk page of a warning, which is frowned upon in the wiki society. Even still I see that you have blanked the warnings, hence the decision to take this matter to the admin's.72.38.139.247 22:01, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Its nothing personal against you, its just the longer you are here you will learn that the rules are there for a meaning. Some don't make sense to me, but they are there for some reason or other. Also I do have plenty of things to do besides watch you or worry about what you do. By the way you were the one that started the dialog, I just answered. 72.38.139.247 23:01, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Tenants rights

edit

I do agree that tenants rights are important. However the issue was that it linked to your own personal website. As per Wikipedia:External links "You should avoid linking to a website that you own, maintain or represent, even if the guidelines otherwise imply that it should be linked." Now if the link was to an official site instead, say one ran by the city, province, or federal governments then that would be a different thing. However I'm not sure if this would belong on the Kingston, Ontario page itself, maybe there should be mention on that page of the Kingston student ghetto with a link to said wiki page, which would therefore contain the official link to tenants rights. As for the golden cockroach link, well lets just say that I've encountered my fair share of slumlords and don't hold then in high esteem. However Wikipedia is not the place to depict someone in a negative light, this may be seen as POV which is a no no, which I am sure you are aware of. 72.38.139.247 01:05, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
