"Inner Six" Wikipedia Article: Image Map Of The Inner Six And The Outer Seven

07/07/2019

Greetings:

This message is in reference to the image map from Wikipedia Commons that is attached to the Wikipedia article about the "Inner Six". The map shows the countries that formed the Inner Six and those that formed the Outer Seven. However, I believe there is a mistake on the map. Part of northern Africa is shown and the area between Egypt and Morocco is shaded. This makes it appear as if it is somehow relevant to the subject being addressed. At first I thought the northern African countries that correspond to the shaded area (and the area of those countries that isn't shown) might have been colonies of France; but I doubt that is the case. Can you please correct the image? Or, if I am wrong, please let me know. Thank you.

All The Best, Robert Ternes rtmorphine Rtmorphine (talk) 17:31, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

@Rtmorphine: On the contrary, it appears to be shaded correctly. Algeria would be a French colony until the next year. Jay Coop · Talk · Contributions 19:06, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

Greetings, Again:

Thank you for your quick and kind reply! Well, I have shown that I am ignorant, lazy, and a pest. Instead of clicking a few keys and locating the answer myself, I bothered you with a question that didn't need to be asked. I should have followed-through on my initial, albeit weak, thought that the north African country that is shaded (Algeria) was a French colony at the time represented by the map. Even if I didn't think for a moment, and then quickly dismiss, the thought that it was possibly a colony of France, I should have done the minimum amount of research instead of firing off an unnecessary question. I apologize.

Post Script: It's a good thing that South America wasn't shown on the map, or else French Guiana would have needed shading. ;-)

All The Best, Robert Ternes rtmorphine Rtmorphine (talk) 02:37, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

@Rtmorphine: No, no, don't be too hard on yourself. At first glace, I would have thought the same as well. Jay Coop · Talk · Contributions 04:02, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

New WikiProject Socialism membership system

Hello! I'm in the process of introducing a new membership system to WikiProject Socialism (designed as part of WikiProject X and adopted by a few other projects). The new system works by filling a form which creates a WikiProject Card. I'm manually creating WikiProject cards for current members. You can find and edit yours here. Any change to your WikiProject card will be automaticalle updated at Wikipedia:WikiProject Socialism/Members. If you have any doubt, please, feel free to contact me by replying here using the {{re}} template. Best, --MarioGom (talk) 01:06, 20 July 2019 (UTC)

Ways to improve Opinion polling on the Arnold Schwarzenegger governorship

Hello, JayCoop,

Thank you for creating Opinion polling on the Arnold Schwarzenegger governorship.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Thanks for your new article on "Opinion polling on the Arnold Schwarzenegger governorship", but its purpose is difficult to discern. It is essentially just a list of numbers with no context. Consider writing a narrative on how the numbers changed over time, the influence of outside events, etc.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Doomsdayer520}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

ArbCom 2019 election voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:13, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!
