Tables

You created List of townlands in County Kilkenny using HTML markup instead of the much more compact WikiMarkup. I've put in a bot request to fix this.

When you use HTML tables on large articles, it makes it very difficult for others to make changes. See Help:Table for help on how to use tables the wiki way. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 02:43, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Dealing with attacks

Hi. You were absolutely right to put {{db-attack}} on Caroline Kolada just now, but there are two other things to do with an attack page:

• delete the actual text of the attack and replace it with the word "blanked", so that the actual attack is not visible for the time until the page is deleted, denying the attacker the satisfaction of showing his friends (the attack is still in the history if the admin wants to check); and
• copy onto the author's talk page the warning which forms part of the db-attack template when it is expanded onto the page. That may frighten the author off, and if it doesn't it provides a record which will help get him blocked if he does it again.
  

Another tip: you can save a few keystrokes by using {{db-atk}}. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 20:19, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. New deal for page patrollers

Hi English Lock,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.
