I have moved this section from your User page to this Talk page. The Wikipedia custom is to use the Talk page for communications with other editors, and to use the User page to describe yourself. I hope you won't mind my initiative in making this change. Beyond that, I welcome your enthusiasm for editing American history articles. Thanks for the prompt reply. I live in Philadelphia, my father and grandfather were carpenters, and I often take out-of-town visitors to see Carpenters' Hall after seeing the better known landmarks. Even with only a brief search, I found an article about Carpenters' Hall with a photo of the modern version of the APS library, and the UK article has a dreadful quality photo of our hall. The Carpenters were actually more like what we would call architects and builders, not just woodworkers. Look at "your" (WP:OWN) article on the Farewell Address, though, especially my changes to the last three references. --DThomsen8 (talk) 01:56, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Not a problem and thank you very much for the edits on the Farewell Address. As you can probably see by my recent post on my User page I am severely lacking in the intricacies of final editing and also the final writing of these articles. If possible I would like to ask if you can help me in this regard. I have left my final advice and suggestions on this article and am open to any discussion on questions or concerns you may have on the article. I am leaving separate sections here on the "intricacies of final editing" for you. I have left a long string of talk entries on tasks to be done on historical and US government articles, hoping that others will do the editing. Editing existing articles and looking at what other editors have done using the "history" tab is a good way to learn the techniques of editing. Trying to write new articles, such as I have proposed about the Carpenters' Company, is a lot more ambitious. --DThomsen8 (talk) 13:29, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Agreed. I after taking a look at some other articles I am guessing that my calls for assistance will just sit there with little or no work on them. I am going to take a look at a few of these instructionals you provided me and try and build my editing skills a little bit. I guess the reason I wanted to get a first draft done on the Farewell address, Treaty of Alliance, and a couple others is because they contained either biased, incorrect, or almost no information. Calls for assistance often just sit there. That has been my experience. However, sometimes I have responded to a call for assistance left months or years ago by an earlier editor on some random article. --DThomsen8 (talk) 01:46, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Plan to leave them out there while finishing up the Treaty of Amity and Commerce and Franco-American Alliance first drafts but I think we probably need a few more editors in Wikipedia instead of just article writers like I was thinking of doing so will also keep working on those skills also.

Inline reference styles

Look at Talk:Federalist_Era for a note I left about repeated inline citations in this article. The {{rp}} template can be overused, but here it would be a useful change to avoid the long string of almost identical citations. --DThomsen8 (talk) 13:22, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Franco-American Alliance

For the Franco-American Alliance article, consider a book about Lafayette and Washington: Clary, David (2007). Adopted Son. New York: Bantam Books. ISBN 0553804359., which explains how important Lafayette was upon his return to France, among other things. Beyond the content, consider http://www.librarything.com/work/2455819/details/38779830 which has a feature of connecting this book with a service to create the Wikipedia cite. http://www.librarything.com has been a big help in creating citations for use on Wikipedia. --DThomsen8 (talk) 13:52, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

I see from the DAB page that there have been five "Treaty of Amity and Commerce" treaties, and I assume you mean [Treaty of Amity and Commerce (USA-France)]]. I mention this to encourage you to follow my habit and always provide a link to an article I am mentioning on a talk page, as a courtesy to the other editors. That is the Biddle family entry for him, but I have just added a new article about him, changing the link from red to blue. Please take a look.
