Citation to Yellow Pages on Forest Lake, Queensland

edit

Just to explain why I removed the citation you added about the Army camp in World War 2. Unfortunately sites like that Yellow Pages webpage are often just unattributed copies of material from Wikipedia (often earlier versions of the current article) and hence cannot be used as a citation in Wikipedia. The information looks too similar to me to suspect it has indpendent origins. A lot of organisations just copy Wikipedia content so they fool the search engines into sending people to their website and viewing their advertising. There is no easy way to be certain of what webpages are genuine and which are not, but always ask yourself "would the organisation publishing this webpage really be doing research on WW2 camps (or whatever the topic is)?" and the answer for Yellow Pages is probably not (they publish lists of businesses), whereas if you were on some military website, or a Brisbane history website, then it's more plausibly a genuine source for info about a WW2 camp. I hope that explains what I did. Please keep up the good work and don't hesitate to contact me if you need any help. Kerry (talk) 11:37, 16 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

I had a look on the Qld Government's website about WW2 places in Queensland and I cannot find any military camp listed at Forest Lake but there was one one at Inala. Meanwhile, this website suggests that Forest Lake may have been part of an ammunition dump at Darra, although nothing is mentioned about that here. But this webpage says this:

"Honour Stone at Homestead Park, Forest Lake To commemorate the presence of US troops at Camp Columbia, Camp Freeman and the Darra Ordnance Ammunition Depot"

and if you follow that link, you see a photo of the plaque on the monument. If you just read the plaque (and had not seen any of these website), you could well believe the the American troops were stationed in Forest Lake since the plaque vaguely talks about them being in "this vicinity". So I am guessing that someone has seen the plaque and added the info (without citation) into this Wikipedia article without really understanding that the spot was the command post for the ammunition depot and not a camp. I've updated the article accordingly. Kerry (talk) 12:05, 16 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Overlinking

edit

Hi, please have a look at our WP:OVERLINKING policy. In this diff, you've linked time, which would be an example of ``Everyday words understood by most readers in context.`` In this diff, you've added two more links to genus, after it's already been linked in the lede and infobox (and once subsequently; see Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Linking#Duplicate_and_repeat_links. Skate-Leading Stars moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Skate-Leading Stars, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. Currently, all available coverage of the subject appears to be limited to press releases, which are not enough to justify the creation of a Wikipedia article. As the series is not due to release until July of this year, it is simply WP:TOOSOON to publish an article on this subject. Please expand and resubmit the article once independent coverage is available. I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. signed, Rosguill talk 23:04, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Please do not use styles that are unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles, as you did in Pig. There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. You've already been asked to be mindful of WP:OVERLINKING. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Sigma Healthcare, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Victoria. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Rafael Ángel Chinchilla Fallas moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Rafael Ángel Chinchilla Fallas, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). Ebrahim Ketabdar moved to draftspace

Thanks for your contributions to Ebrahim Ketabdar. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:54, 6 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
